Silence in Sound
, a series of live mantra meditation gatherings. The tour, which spans New Delhi, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Indore, Bengaluru and Mumbai, will blend traditional devotional singing with storytelling and guided meditation.
The events aim to offer accessible spiritual experiences rooted in ancient Vedic practices. Each two-hour session will feature call-and-response mantra chanting, supported by an ensemble mixing classical Indian and contemporary instruments, including harmonium, mridanga, saxophone and bass guitar. Radhika Das has previously performed at international festivals and venues including Bhakti Fest, World Yoga Festival, The British Museum and Union Chapel.
With more than 50 million digital streams, his global work has centred on using sound as a medium for connection and reflection.
'This is a homecoming,' said Das ahead of the tour. 'These chants have ancient roots here. My goal is to create a space where people can reconnect with that legacy.' The performances are designed for a wide audience, requiring no prior experience in meditation or chanting. Organisers note that the carefully selected venues are chosen for their acoustic quality and spiritual resonance.
The India tour marks a significant expansion of Radhika Das's work in creating immersive spiritual spaces that move beyond traditional frameworks, with a focus on inclusivity, emotional connection and collective introspection.

Disha Patani's sister Khushboo slams seer Aniruddhacharya after his rebuke in misogyny row: ‘False narrative…'

Actor Disha Patani's sister, Retd. Major Khushboo Patani has been receiving a lot of social media attention lately and not because of her thrilling workout videos. This time, the retired officer, who has previously gone viral for her empathy and humanitarian acts of kindness, is under fire for her enraged comments on Spiritual Leader Aniruddhacharya's most recent sermon. Khushboo Patani with sister Disha Patani; Aniruddhacharya Famously known as Pookie Baba, the Mathura-based religious speaker made a few sexist remarks during a religious event at Vrindavan's Gauri Gopal Ashram. In a video that has since gone viral he said, 'Ab ladki late hai 25 saal ki. Ab 25 saal ki ladki chaar jagah mu maar chuki hoti hai. Sab nahi par bahut. Aur wo 25 saal ki jab aati hai toh puri jawan hoke aati hai. Jab jawan hoke aayegi toh swabhavik hai ki uski jawani kahi fisal jaegi. (Now, girls are marrying at the age of 25. By then, many, not all, have been in relationships with multiple men. By the time a woman is 25, she is fully grown. It is only natural that by then, her youth has slipped away somewhere).' His remarks caused widespread outrage, particularly amongst women. The Mathura Bar Association condemned the remarks, while a group of lawyers met the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Mathura, demanding legal action against the seer. Khushboo was also one of the many voices who spoke up against his comments, saying, 'He says girls who are above the age of 25 and stay in live-in relationships, woh 4 jagah mooh maar ke aati hai. If only he was around me, I would have made him understand the meaning of the words he has used against women. They are anti-national. You should never support b****** of the highest orders.' She further accused his his followers of being spineless, saying, 'He just questioned the girls staying in live-in relationships, why did he not speak about the boys who are in live-in relationships? Why is live-in such a taboo? What is wrong in it? If two people decide to be with each other before heading for a marriage, how does that make them wrong?' Aniruddhacharya's response Post the backlash, the seer released an official explanation video on Saturday with the caption: 'If anyone has been hurt by the misleading video spread by cutting and spreading the statement of Pujya Maharaj ji, then it is unfortunate.' In the video, he claims, 'Radhe Radhe. Aap logon ke dwara humein soochna mili ki kuch behnein naraaz hain is baat ko lekar, kyunki unhone aadhi adhoori video suni. Us video mein kaha gaya ki aaj kal 25 saal ki ladki... dekhiye baat yahaan ja rahi thi ki kuch ladkiyaan aisi hoti hain jo live-in mein rehkar chaar jagah mooh maar chuki hoti hain. Aur jab woh kisi ghar ki bahu banengi, toh kya woh rishte ko nibha payengi? Isliye, ladka ho ya ladki, dono ko pehle charitrawaan hona chahiye. Yeh baat kuch ladkiyon ke liye thi, sab ke liye nahi. (Radhe Radhe. I have been informed by some of you that a few sisters are upset because they listened to an incomplete video. In that video, it was said that nowadays, a 25-year-old girl... Look, the point being made was that some girls are such that they have been in live-in relationships and are involved with multiple men. And when such a girl becomes the daughter-in-law of a household, will she be able to maintain that relationship? That's why, whether it's a boy or a girl, both should be of good character first. This statement was meant for some girls, not all.)' Why did she release a new statement? After Aniruddhacharya's response and his statement about 'misleading video spread by cutting and spreading the statement of Pujya Maharaj ji', Khushboo took to Instagram to tell her side of the story. On Wednesday, the 33-year-old took to Instagram with a heartfelt post.'It has come to my notice that a false narrative is being circulated online, mixing my name with revered spiritual figure Premanand Maharaj ji, and spreading baseless claims that I've said something about him. Let me make this very clear – I have not made any statement against Premanand Maharaj ji. My words were strictly in response to a misogynistic comment made by Anirudh Acharya, and were directed only at him (sic),' she said. 'It deeply pains me to see people misusing and twisting my words, dragging my name and my family's name into something we have nothing to do with. This kind of targeted misinformation is not only unethical but dangerous. Respecting saints and spiritual traditions is something I hold deeply in my heart. But calling out misogyny, wherever it comes from, is also my dharma - and I will not remain silent in the face of injustice. To those spreading lies - truth always stands tall. I request everyone to refrain from spreading manipulated videos and incorrect information. If this continues, I will be forced to take legal action against defamatory content,' she said further. Who is Khushboo Patani? Khushboo Patani is a former Army Major, wellness coach, and sister of Bollywood star Disha Patani. Khushboo has served in the Indian Army for over a decade and claims that years of moving across the country and living through challenges most civilians never face has deeply shaped her worldview.

Are Character Actors Disappearing from Tamil Cinema?

Manorama in the 1990 film 'Nadigan'. Pic credit: Stills Gnanam Thirty-five years after the hit film's release, Khusbhu, who was hailed the star of P Vasu's 'Nadigan', still believes Manorama was the real hero. 'As the strict aunt, she had the audience eating out of her hand. She outshined the rest of us on screen.' That was the time, says Khushbu, when Tamil cinema was defined not just by its stars, but by its unforgettable character actors, a glaring void in present-day scripts. In the 1960s it was S V Ranga Rao, V S Raghavan, S V Subbaiah and T S Balaiah who were remembered for their memorable roles as father, father-in-law and sometimes playing characters for period films. Scripts were tailor-made to showcase their talent and they approached roles with precision, which made their innings longer across industries. In today's films, there's a hero who occupies most of the screen space, a blood-thirsty villain, and a heroine who is often reduced to nothing more than eye candy. Although actors such as Saranya Ponvanan, Urvashi and M S Bhaskar have managed to get screen space, their potential remains untapped. Travelling with the script throughout is a challenge, says film critic Balu. 'Malayalam director I V Sasi had a huge cast in his films. Now, films have a limited cast and space has shrunk for character roles,' he says. 'Until a couple of decades ago, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan would recommend involving veterans such as Nagesh, Ravichandran and Pandari Bai. But that was just a phase. Today's filmmakers work with barely six characters as movie making is a costly affair with inflated salaries,' says Balu. In between intense or violent scenes, it was the character actors that provided humour, relief or reassurance to the audience that all was well. 'Now, weapons have replaced people,' says filmmaker Chitra Lakshmanan. 'When was the last time one noticed who played the parents? Only recently, films such as 'Tourist Family' and 'Thalaivan Thalaivii', both of which released this year, and 'Once More' (in the pipeline) have given importance to character roles. 'When we watch a movie, we should be able to carry good memories. If we want the industry to grow, our movies need to touch the soul,' says Chitra Lakshmanan. But some in the industry don't agree that supporting roles are fading. 'Character actors such as Thambi Ramaiah, Kali Venkat, Munishkanth, Mottai Rajendran and Anand Raj are busy doing films,' says producer G Dhananjayan. 'The audience is spoiled for choice. As for actresses, Simran, Devadarshini, Deepa Shankar, Sriranjani and Vinodhini Vaidynathan have made a world of difference in terms of taking the storyline forward and making films feel complete.' Sarath Kumar's 'Por Thozil' (2023) got him well-deserved recognition, says Dhananjayan. 'He is not the hero in '3 BHK' (2025) either but his screen presence left an impact. Sathyaraj and Radhikaa too are taking up projects that give them character roles.' He believes that versatile actors attract directors. 'Decades ago, Simran was one of the top actors. In 'Tourist Family', it was her role as a mother that stood out. Directors today are looking for character artists. But in the end, faces in posters are what attract audiences. Our biggest issue now is getting people to step out of their homes and watch movies in theatres,' says Dhananjayan. Film critic Vamanan says the answer lies in emotion-based content. 'Family-based scripts are passe. Crime-based content dominates. There's no time to build on a person's character and emotions. This generation has no time. Sensationalising violence has taken prominence because it gives instant gratification.' When Manorama changed the formula When her days of being a comedy queen started to diminish in the late 1980s, Manorama transformed her image to play a mother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt and grandmother. Director K Balanchander gave her a unique and difficult task in 'Unnal Mudiyum Thambi Angayarkanni' (1988) where she played Kamal Haasan's sister-in-law. It is said the director asked her not to be Manorama, emphasising that 'not a shred of her old formula acting' should peep into her role as Angaryarkanni, who had to pacify a judgmental father-in-law (Bilahari Marthandam Pillai) played by Gemini Ganesan against Kamal as (Udhayamoorthi) for his playful attitude Email your feedback with name and address to
