Suspect accused of hitting man with SUV at The Bird in Dunwoody turns himself in
The Dunwoody Police Department said Monday morning that Sheldon Mayers turned himself in at the jail on Wednesday evening.
He is accused of hitting Terry Crosby on April 25 after getting into an altercation with Mayers over his girlfriend.
Channel 2 Action News previously reported that 'a man and his girlfriend were sitting at the bar when another man walked up to them. The second man touched the woman to get her attention, which led to a fight inside the restaurant,' according to investigators.

After The Bird staff broke up the fight, management told them all to leave, according to police. In the parking lot, Mayers is accused of intentionally hitting Crosby with his car, putting him in the hospital.
Police said Crosby remains in the hospital in stable condition.
Having turned himself in, Mayers faces three felony charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and hit and run resulting in serious injury or death.
Jail records show Mayers has been released on bond from the DeKalb County Jail.

Ammo explodes inside burning DeKalb County home
DeKalb County firefighters responded to reports of a house fire just before 2 a.m. at 6868 Gledhill Way near Stone Mountain on Tuesday. When crews arrived, they saw flames coming through the roof. Battalion Chief Jovan Carter with DeKalb County Fire Rescue said the flames were so heavy that they were unable to enter the home, and crews took up a defensive position back away from the house and focused on hot spots and protecting neighboring homes from catching fire. Carter said he believes explosions that could be heard in the fire were from ammunition. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] He said the house was filled with lots of items, he noticed 'hoarding conditions', and due to that and the ammunition exploding, firefighters had to back off. 'We take a safe position so that nobody gets hurt,' Carter told Channel 2 Action News. As of 4 a.m., firefighters were still at the scene focusing on hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Chase ends in crash, causing heavy police presence on I-285
A police investigation has shut down Interstate 285 at Interstate 675 in DeKalb County. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] A GDOT camera shows at least two dozen police cars surrounding a car that flipped over. The DeKalb County Police Department and the Georgia State Patrol are on the scene. Cameras show some of the officers with their guns drawn. While the scene is still active, DKPD said a vehicle chase ended in a crash after a suspect pointed a gun at one of our officers. Channel 2 Action News is working to learn what led up to this incident. Fayette man pleads guilty to burning wife's body, burying her in backyard
A Fayette County man has been sentenced after he pleaded guilty to murdering his wife last year. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] On Monday, Kenneth Hardin Jr. was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his wife, Carrie Hardin. Deputies were first made aware of the crime after they got a phone call from a home on Merlin Court on August 21, 2024. Kenneth Hardin's father called 911 and deputies went to the couple's home on Merlin Court, where they found evidence that matched his statements. The sheriff's office told Channel 2 Action News that Kenneth Hardin confessed to his father that he'd killed his wife in self-defense the day before, burned her body and was leaving town. In the house, deputies found signs of blood and attempts to cover up a crime scene. Sheriff Barry Babb said it appeared that Carrie Hardin died from gunshot wounds. Authorities tracked Kenneth Hardin to a motel in Louisiana, where he had checked into a motel. [SIGN UP: WSB-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter] According to the Griffin Judicial Circuit, Kenneth Hardin pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including felony murder, and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He also received a 10-year concurrent sentence for concealing the death of another and an additional five-year consecutive sentence for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. 'While nothing can bring Carrie Hardin back to her sons, I am proud of the efforts by law enforcement and my office to bring some measure of justice to her family and dignity to her legacy,' said District Attorney Marie Broder.
