Pokemon Presents Announced for July 2025 With Pikachu Speaker Tease

CNET2 days ago
It's that time again, trainers: Grab your Pokedex and get ready to catch some new pocket monsters, because we're about to hear everything on the latest developments in the world of Pokemon.
The Pokemon Presents July 2025 stream is the first one since Pokemon Day in February. That stream ended up being pretty massive, featuring game announcements and content updates that we heard whispers about from GameFreak's infamous 2024 data breach.
While we don't know what to expect this time around, it's safe to assume that we'll hear about the next mainline games, mobile titles, live service updates and more.
Here's how you can watch the upcoming Pokemon Direct -- and what you can expect to see once you tune into the stream.
We've seen an official trailer for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but the upcoming Pokemon Presents stream could divulge more information about the game.

How to watch July 2025's Pokemon Presents stream
The upcoming Pokemon Presents stream will take place on Tuesday, July 22 at 9 a.m. ET. The stream will go live on the official Pokemon YouTube channel. Not sure when July's Pokemon Presents will go live for you? Here's when the event starts in your time zone:
ET: July 22 at 9 a.m.
July 22 at 9 a.m. CT: July 22 at 8 a.m.
July 22 at 8 a.m. MT: July 22 at 7 a.m.
July 22 at 7 a.m. PT: July 22 at 6 a.m.
We don't know exactly how long the event will run, but previous Pokemon Presents streams have ranged from 10 to 20 minutes long, depending on how many announcements are prepared for the stream.
Pokemon Go just celebrated its ninth anniversary -- we can expect to hear more about this mobile game (among others) during the upcoming Pokemon Direct.

What can you expect from Pokemon Presents July 2025?
This Pokemon Presents stream is positioned at a strange time -- Pokemon Legends: Z-A for the Nintendo Switch 2 has already been announced and we have plenty of info (and gameplay footage) available for that game. We might still get a segment that expands on new gameplay mechanics or Pokemon that players will be able to find in this version of the Kalos region, especially Mega forms we haven't yet seen.
The official Pokemon Company Japan X account teased this Pokemon Direct with a rather foreboding photo of Pikachu standing in front of some DJ equipment, so we might just hear about a Pokemon rhythm game. Between that, New Pokemon Snap and the return of Mystery Dungeon, I'm loving the reintroduction of bizarre offshoot games.
It's also possible that generation 10 will be announced during the presentation. There are usually three years between mainline Pokemon titles, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet released in 2022. Unless GameFreak is looking to polish the next big games with some extra development time, we're probably due to hear about the next generation of Pokemon games extremely soon.
Pokemon Day 2025 featured an announcement for Pokemon Champions, a dedicated Pokemon battling game, but we haven't heard much about the game since. We could very well get an update about that game during this stream, explaining more about how the game will integrate the series' long list of battle mechanics and giving us a better idea of when we'll see a full release.
Otherwise, the backbone of this presentation will very likely be composed of routine updates and new features for Pokemon mobile and live service games. We can expect to hear about new Pokemon coming to Pokemon Cafe Mix, Pokemon Masters Ex and Pokemon Sleep, with the potential for new playable pocket monsters to be revealed for Pokemon Unite.
With Pokemon Go changing hands from Niantic to Scopely, it's also possible that the extremely popular AR game will have announcements that shake up core gameplay features for Pokemon trainers worldwide. The recent addition of the Gold Bottle Cap was already a massive change for the status quo.
I'd be willing to bet that the next Pokemon TCG Pocket set will be revealed during this Pokemon Presents as well. New expansions are usually teased at the end of each month, which lines up with this stream. The last Pokemon Presents included info about a massive set expansion, too, so the precedent is already set for this reveal.
If you're excited for non-gaming Pokemon content, there's also a chance we'll see some Pokemon Concierge during the Pokemon Presents July stream. The second season for this slice-of-life Pokemon hotel series is set to release on Netflix in September, so we might catch a scene or two teasing the show and get an official release date.

The Atomic Purple Game Boy of VR Headsets Is Here, and It's Glorious

I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for Atomic Purple. There's just something about the Game Boy nostalgia that gets me every time. Slap a translucent shell on just about anything and you've got my attention. That goes for Nothing's products, these Beats earbuds, and the many, many retro Anbernic handhelds. Now, it goes for Bigscreen's Beyond 2e VR headset, too. We're excited to partner with @VRChat to launch the Bigscreen Beyond 2e: VRChat Edition — Bigscreen (@BigscreenVR) July 16, 2025The recently released Beyond 2e isn't a huge departure from the Beyond 2, but it does sport an exclusive 'Atomic Purple' shell that borrows style tips from Nintendo's iconic Atomic Purple colorway, which debuted on the 1998 Game Boy Color and later made its way to the N64. Not going to lie, I love it. Nostalgia, you dirty dog, you win again. While the Bigscreen Beyond 2e may look like a Game Boy, it's actually all about another thing—VRChat. Bigscreen made its new headset specifically for lovers of VRChat, a VR game-turned-social platform where you get to sport silly avatars and talk to other people. I could go down the rabbit hole talking about how strange VRChat can be, but for now, let's stick to hardware. From a technical perspective, there's not a huge difference between the Beyond 2 and 2e, but Bigscreen says that it did go all out to miniaturize its eye tracking. Believe it or not, according to them, the Beyond 2e has the world's smallest eye-tracking system and features a sensor the size of 'a grain of sand.' To help that tiny sensor, Bigscreen says it also worked on the software side of things. 'Unlike prior approaches, Beyond 2e's eye-tracking algorithms utilize novel computer vision techniques. We trained AI models of the human pupil and run inference on GPUs in real-time on models fine-tuned to each unique individual,' Bigscreen said in a statement. As Bigscreen notes, eye tracking is a big part of delivering a solid VRChat experience since it helps players translate their expressions more and make avatars more lifelike. It's hard to say how all of that hard work paid off from an eye-tracking perspective, but the fact that it can shrink something like that down so much is a feat in and of itself. For hardcore VRChat fans, this may not be the most high-tech experience (tethered headsets are still best for that), but it is lightweight at 107 grams, which is hard to argue with. Outside of eye tracking, Bigscreen is also including some other perks for VRChat users, including a special VRChat-themed box and some exclusive items and stickers for in-game use. If you're as jazzed about this Atomic Purple headset as I am, you may want to place a preorder quickly. Bigscreen's Beyond 2e is limited edition and only available 'while supplies last.' It starts at $1,269 but may be more expensive depending on what cushion you choose. It's set to ship in September.

How long is Donkey Kong Bananza?

We only had to wait one month after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch to get our first shiny new 3D platformer. However, it isn't a new Mario game like you might've assumed, but DK taking center stage. Donkey Kong Bananza is all about smashing and digging your way with Pauline to the planet's core while facing off against a cast of villains. Being able to terraform the levels completely changes the pace of a normal platformer, but does it mean you can bypass everything and finish the game in a few hours? What if you are the type of person who wants to get every collectible there is? In either case, you might be surprised at how Donkey Kong Bananza actually is. After playing the game from start to finish, here's how long you can expect to spend playing Donkey Kong Bananza. How long to beat Donkey Kong Bananza? There are several ways you might choose to approach Donkey Kong Bananza that will determine how long it takes you to finish. If you wanted to basically speedrun the game and go straight from one main objective to the next, which I wouldn't recommend, you still have a long road ahead of you. I'd say playing the game, just doing the critical path, would still take around 15 hours. Recommended Videos If you played in a more natural way, doing a good amount of side challenges, letting yourself get distracted, and going off the main road to collect extra collectibles as you see them without becoming obsessed with getting everything, Donkey Kong Bananza will take you 20-30 hours. That range is to account for exactly how much you end up doing in each level. There are a lot more levels than you might expect, and hundreds of things to collect, so it really is up to you how long you want the game to last. Finally, completionists out there are in for a very, very long game. Donkey Kong Bananza has almost too many things to collect across its many levels. There can be over 30 bananas in a single level, plus double that in fossils. Part of that will require you to not only find all the hidden challenge stages, but also the secret bananas within each one. Some bananas also cost banana chips, which are found by digging. Speaking of digging, some are locked behind destroying a certain amount of different terrain types on each level, so you may have to grind a bit for those. Fossils will unlock and upgrade your outfits for DK and Pauline, and bananas can be spent upgrading your stats and abilities, so nothing you collect is worthless. I can only estimate here, but I wouldn't be surprised if it took over 50 hours to 100% Donkey Kong Bananza.
