Belen Jesuit's Marco Prieguez is the Miami-Dade Boys' Scholar-Athlete of the Year
But over the years, several of the members of each squad show their strength not just when they're putting in the miles, but in the classroom as well.
Belen senior Marco Prieguez is another perfect example of this combination.
Prieguez has been a standout on the Wolverines' cross-country and track teams throughout his high school career.
The highlight came this season, however, as he was finally able to enjoy not just a team state championship in the fall in cross-country, but a state title in track earlier this month.
While Prieguez has been impressive when it comes to running, he's even more so academically.
And that's a big reason he's this year's Miami Herald Miami-Dade County Boys' Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Prieguez was a first team All-Dade selection in cross-country after finishing fifth individually at the state Class 3A meet with a time of 15:36. His season-best time was also impressive as he ran a time of 15:23. He finished sixth at state in the 1,600 meters in track and field helping Belen win the team title.
He did all of this while maintaining an impressive 5.515 grade point average, scoring a 1490 on the SAT and a 34 on the ACT.
His stellar academic resume helped him earn an opportunity to attend the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, joining a long line of Wolverines athletes to enroll at Ivy League schools.
Prieguez has been part of three consecutive state titles in cross-country since joining the team as a sophomore.
An honors student, AP Scholar with Distinction and a member of five National Honor Societies, Prieguez also participated in numerous community service activities including the Fundacion Hermanos De La Calle, which translated to English reads 'Brothers from the Street Foundation' where he continuously prepared and delivered homemade food to the homeless or recently
homeless, and created a focus group to discuss issues affecting individuals experiencing
homelessness and how to target these issues in everyday life.

ESPN's SP+ ranks Michigan football No. 10 for 2025, eyes Big Ten title run
Despite being just one season removed from winning a national championship, most pundits in college football have started to look at Michigan football as something of an also-ran following an 8-5 season in 2024, rather than last year being a blip on the radar. The operative word here is 'most.' ESPN's resident advanced analytics guru Bill Connelly isn't among those looking down his nose at the Wolverines. Of course, Connelly is the one who puts together SP+ as well as the returning production rankings. He's done more to analyze the field than simply going off name recognition or projecting off of the previous year's results. As far as the maize and blue are concerned, Connelly does have Michigan as the fourth-best team in the Big Ten -- but he also has the Wolverines as the 10th-best team in the country. Via his Big Ten preview on ESPN, he has Michigan as one of the conference championship contenders: 2025 projection: 10th in SP+, 9.8 average wins (7.2 in the Big Ten) If you can beat Ohio State and Alabama without a quarterback, just think of what you can do with one, right (...) The No. 10 ranking in SP+ is certainly aggressive. It will require massive offensive improvement. But with a schedule featuring only two opponents projected better than 30th (Oklahoma at the start, Ohio State at the end), the Wolverines won't need a top-10 team to win a lot of games. One of the things he mentions is that Michigan will face some tough competition early on, with road trips to Oklahoma, Nebraska, and USC. He does have the Sooners at No. 16 in his rankings, so the only school that is ranked ahead of the Wolverines on the schedule is Ohio State. So, with that in mind, should Michigan football return to form, where the Wolverines beat the teams they're supposed to, that -- in theory -- would vault the maize and blue to 11-0 going into The Game. However, there's a reason why games aren't played on paper. And if Connelly is right (and we tend to agree), that if there's just a modicum of offensive improvement, then yes, Michigan could be relatively formidable in 2025.

He had been committed to the Baylor Bears since June 24. Fawcett also shared a brief message that Deck sent after making his decision to flip his commitment to Michigan. "Have to do what's best for me & I believe that's Michigan," he said. "Go Blue!" Deck is currently listed as the No. 25 safety in the 2026 recruiting class by 247 Sports. He is also ranked as the No. 40 overall prospect in the state of Texas. Losing Harbaugh right after winning it all was a tough blow, but Moore is more than capable of leading the program back to glory. Being able to make these kinds of moves will be key to reaching that goal. The Athletic wary on Underwood but claims 'He's the most talented QB I've ever watched'
Excitement is building for the 2025 college football season, and in Ann Arbor, there's one name on everyone's mind -- quarterback Bryce Underwood. The true freshman and former No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 class is trending to start, thanks in large part to Fresno State transfer QB Mikey Keene being injured throughout spring ball. But, having never played a real down of college ball (unless you count Michigan's spring game), it's difficult to prognosticate exactly what Underwood might be should he get the starting nod on August 30. The Athletic ranked all 136 projected starting quarterbacks and put them into tiers (subscription required). Underwood was listed at No. 50 overall and in tier four, falling into the category of 'young, unproven starters with high potential.' But, while The Athletic's source raves about Underwood, it comes with a word of caution. It's difficult to temper the optimism, excitement and massive expectations surrounding Underwood, who was the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2025. 'He's the most talented QB I've ever watched,' said someone who evaluated Underwood thoroughly during the recruiting process. 'Literally has it all.' Underwood is a freak athlete with a huge arm and will take over the starting role at Michigan at some point. When will that be? And will the supporting cast be good enough around him? 'Really hope Michigan doesn't screw it up putting him out there early without a good enough supporting cast,' that same source said. 'Just because he's that good doesn't mean he needs to start Week 1.' The hope in Ann Arbor is that the supporting cast will be superior to pundit expectations. The Wolverines did bring in former Indiana wide receiver Donaven McCulley as well as UMass wideout Anthony Simpson. There's a lot of young, unproven talent at the position, as well as on the offensive line (though the line is more experienced, the question is about the quality of said experience). What's being counted out here, however, is Michigan's style of play. The Wolverines likely won't go into 2025 thinking that their freshman quarterback will have 30 or 40 attempts, as many teams might. Given that the maize and blue pride themselves on the running game, and have a duo of Justice Haynes and Jordan Marshall, they'll likely be more of the focal point of the offense -- at least until Underwood gets his feet wet. The word is that Keene is now healthy and will compete in fall camp with Underwood, and also Michigan's late transfer addition, Jake Garcia. Fall camp is expected to start at the end of July with eyes on the August 30 season opener.
