ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) and the Institute for Healthier Living Abu Dhabi (IHLAD) convened with the inaugural Healthy Longevity Innovation Forum to drive advancements in longevity science and personalised healthcare.The event brought together an elite group of global experts, policymakers, and healthcare leaders, including dignitaries from DoH, Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) and esteemed members of the IHLAD Board. The forum served as a pivotal platform to explore cutting-edge research, innovative healthcare solutions, and policy frameworks aimed at fostering healthier, longer lives in the UAE and beyond. The forum further solidified the Department's mission to transform healthcare to meet the needs of a modern aging world.Led by Prof Dr Shahrukh Hashmi, Division Director for Medical Research and Development at DoH, a highly exclusive closed-door research session featured scientific luminaries like Dr Eric Verdin, President and CEO (Buck Institute for Research on Aging), Professor Andrea Maier, Co-Director of the Centre for Healthy Longevity (National University of Singapore), and Professor Evelyne Bischof, Professor of Medicine (Shanghai University of Medicine and Health Sciences). The experts engaged in comprehensive discussions exploring advanced longevity medicine, digital biomarkers, and precision health interventions – setting the stage for potential breakthroughs that could enhance healthcare outcomes and quality of life for residents within emirate and beyond.Dr Nicole Sirotin, CEO of the Institute for Healthier Living Abu Dhabi, said: "Research is critical to the success and growth of our community. DOH urges public to take precautions against leptospirosis as rains, floods worsen
The Department of Health (DOH) is urging the public to stay vigilant against leptospirosis amid widespread flooding due to heavy rains. DOH Spokesperson Asec. Albert Domingo, in a Malacañang press briefing, advised people to heed local government warnings and seek medical attention if they come into contact with floodwaters. Domingo noted that symptoms of leptospirosis, such as fever, muscle pain, yellowing of the eyes and skin, and changes in stool color, usually appear two weeks after exposure. However, he emphasized that early intake of prophylactic medication can help prevent infection. Leptospirosis primarily affects the kidneys but may also damage the lungs, heart, and in severe cases, the brain—potentially requiring ICU admission. He urged anyone who has been submerged in floodwater to wash thoroughly with soap and water and consult a doctor immediately. Free medication is available at government health centers. Domingo likened floodwater to toilet water, highlighting the importance of sanitation. He warned against ignoring early signs and encouraged preventive care, especially with more weather disturbances expected, such as Tropical Depression Dante and two other low-pressure areas.

Abu Dhabi's vaccine distribution hub activated with first shipment
The vaccine distribution hub in Abu Dhabi has been launched following the arrival of the facility's first shipments. Developed by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) in partnership with leading global and regional stakeholders, the hub is a strategic milestone in the emirate's vision to strengthen global health security, ensure equitable vaccine access, and build resilient supply chains across the region. The activation of the hub follows an agreement signed between the DoH and GSK during Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week in 2024 to establish regional vaccine distribution capabilities in the emirate. The facility becomes GSK's first vaccine distribution centre in the Middle East and the fourth worldwide. Located in KEZAD and operated by Rafed, a subsidiary of PureHealth, the hub was developed by DoH in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), GSK, AD Ports Group, Etihad Cargo, and KEZAD Group. Dr Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, commented: 'The operational launch of Abu Dhabi's regional vaccine hub signals our readiness to serve the region with speed, precision, and reliability. 'More than a logistics milestone, this reflects our long-term vision to position Abu Dhabi as a trusted partner in global health where innovation and resilience translate into timely access and measurable public health impact.
