Josh McPake gets a hat-trick as St Johnstone make a flying start
Patrick Reading fired Thistle into an early lead but their joy proved short-lived as Jamie Gullan levelled and McPake struck twice before the interval.
McPake put the result beyond doubt when he completed his treble early in the second half and Stevie Mallan wrapped up the scoring with a fine free-kick eight minutes from time.
The intriguing clash between Billy Davies' Morton and Neil Lennon's Dunfermline at Cappielow Park ended in a goalless draw.
Former Derby and Nottingham Forest boss Davies, the recently appointed technical head coach of the Greenock club, was in the dugout for the first time in Scottish football since 2001 as manager Dougie Imrie missed the match for personal reasons.
He was unable to get one over former Celtic manager Lennon, whose Pars side had the better of a feisty affair that saw both bosses booked.
Euan Henderson scored twice as Airdrieonians powered back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Ross County at the Albert Bartlett Stadium.
Two headers from corners in each half from Akil Wright had put the visitors on course for what seemed a routine victory.
Henderson began the fightback just after the hour and then equalised from a free-kick 16 minutes from time.
Raith Rovers and Queen's Park also had to settle for a point apiece after their encounter at Stark's Park ended 1-1.
It was a game of two penalties with Michael Ruth netting from the spot for the visitors after 10 minutes and Dylan Easton doing likewise for the hosts nine minutes from time.

The Valsvöllur in Reykjavik is a modest community stadium with only one stand, a capacity of 2,465 people, and often an icy swirling wind. Until last week, it was home to Tómas Bent Magnússon. One can only imagine what went through the Icelandic midfielder's mind stepping out into a tumultuous Tynecastle Park on Monday night. An initial five-figure transfer fee took the 22-year-old from Valur Reykjavik to Hearts as took the chance to experience Scottish football. For the opening Premiership fixture against Aberdeen, Tynecastle was at its quintessentially Scottish best: Raucous, hostile, intimidating, electric. You know the scene. When I heard that they wanted me, I couldn't really hesitate about coming out.' Magnusson did some research before leaving his homeland and held talks with the Hearts sporting director, Graeme Jones, and head coach Derek McInnes. 'Yeah, after the contact was made with Valur back home, I spoke to the gaffer and Graeme as well. They just told me what the plan was with the club and how they see everything moving forward,' he explained. Hearts transfer delay for another new signing While prospective signing Pierre Landry Kabore, a Burkina Faso internationalist, has been in Edinburgh for a month and is still awaiting a UK work permit, Magnusson's visa came through swiftly. He found out just hours before Monday's fixture that he would be involved. 'Monday morning, just when the offices were open. I was pretty hopeful it would happen. Most of the guys have got their visa pretty quickly, except Kabore, so I was hopeful,' he said. He is a low-maintenance type who enjoys a humble approach to his work. Standing 6ft 2ins tall, he carries an aerial threat at set-pieces and is likely to enjoy the frenetic nature of the Scottish league. He also has ambitions to lift silverware in a maroon shirt. 'I'm a guy who gives it his all, a ball-winner. I get up and down the field and just do what I'm asked to do,' said the player. 'I want to achieve a lot here. We've got ambitions for everything and obviously every player wants to win titles. That's what we want to do.'

Liverpool confirm transfer exit with clever clause to boost Alexander Isak hopes
Liverpool's busy summer continued on Tuesday evening with the Reds announcing their latest departure less than a fortnight before their first game of the new league season Tyler Morton has completed a £15m move to Lyon from Liverpool. The England U21 international departs the Reds having come through the academy at the club. Morton, 22, has been angling for a move away this summer in search of first-team football having had two successful loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and Hull in recent seasons. The Reds have allowed him to leave due to the amount of senior options available with Alexis Mac Allistter, Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboslai blocking his path. They also have other young stars in James McConnell and Luca Stephenson while teenager Trey Nyoni has impressed in pre-season games and is now pushing to be considered a full-time member of the first team. Stefan Bajcetic has also returned from a loan spell away at RB Salzburg and Las Palmas with the Spaniard considered ahead of Morton in the pecking order. Liverpool have a 20 per cent sell-on clause in the deal to sell to the Ligue 1 club with the deal rising to £15m if add-ons are triggered. The fee itself, meanwhile, helps increase the Reds' funds for further transfers. Summer target Alexander Isak remains a Newcastle player for now, with Liverpool seeing a bid knocked back. They could yet come back in for the striker if Newcastle land Benjamin Sesko, though, with the RB Leipzig man expected to make a decision on his future this week. Morton's Liverpool exit comes off the back of success with England's Under-21 side at the European Championships in June. He played in all but one of the Young Lions' matches, setting up Jonathan Rowe's extra-time winner in the final. He barely featured under Arne Slot last season, though, with shoulder surgery limiting his opportunities. The midfielder got a run-out against PSV Eindhoven in Europe and played several domestic cup games, but didn't earn any Premier League minutes. Lyon have had a busy summer, but more players have gone out than come in. Two of those departing players have moved to the Premier League, with playmaker Rayan Cherki joining Manchester City in June and goalkeeper Lucas Perri making a more recent switch to Leeds United. Liverpool, by contrast, have spent more than £200m since winning the Premier League in May. Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike joined in big-money moves, with full-backs Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong also completing Anfield switches. The Reds have also cashed in on a number of first-teamers, with the total sum recouped climbing up above £100m even before Morton's exit. The bulk of that came from Luis Diaz's move to Bayern Munich, while others to depart include Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher. Arne Slot's champions will kick off their Premier League campaign at home to Bournemouth, with the match taking place on August 15.
