‘Revival' plan lands 3 fugitives in jail

Chennai: Attempts to re-establish contact with their prospective aides in Tamil Nadu proved to be the undoing of three fugitives who were linked to multiple terror-related cases across TN, Karnataka and Kerala, and were on the run for almost three decades. And the state police's continued intel gathering paid off when the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) in two carefully coordinated operations in Kartnataka and Andhra Pradesh between June 30 and July 10, finally nabbed the trio. For nearly 30 years, they blended into small-town life under borrowed names. The suspects, originally identified as Tailor Raja, Abu Backer Siddique, and Mohammad Ali, were living under the aliases Shajahan (Vijayapura, Karnataka), Amanullah, and Mansoor (Rayachoti, Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh). ATS officers said they were involved in a series of high-profile crimes, including parcel bombings, coordinated blasts, and targeted killings in the late 1990s and early 2000s. An ATS officer said, "The breakthrough came when Siddique, facing severe health issues, attempted to rally a new faction and reignite fundamentalist activities." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Has Toyota Done It Again? Siddique and Ali were arrested in Kadapa on June 30, while Raja was arrested in Vijayapura on July 10. ATS sleuths tracked them for more than three months, maintaining undercover surveillance where they lived. Siddique, once employed in the UAE, possessed 18 mobile phones, including old models dating back two decades. Siddique and Ali, allegedly involved in the 1995 parcel bomb murder of Thangam Muthukrishnan in Nagapattinam and a foiled parcel bomb attempt in Nagore, were also linked to the 1995 Hindu Munnani office blast in Chennai's Chintadripet, the 1999 serial blasts in Chennai, Trichy, and Coimbatore, the 2011 pipe bomb targeting former Deputy PM L K Advani, and a 2012 murder in Vellore. Mohammad Ali, identified as one of those behind the 1999 bombing of old Chennai police commissioner's office, was also implicated in the 2013 blast near the BJP office in Malleswaram, Bengaluru. All three were linked to extremists such as S Fakruddin, Panna Ismail and Bilal Malik. Tailor Raja, associated with Al-Umma and named in the 1998 Coimbatore serial blasts, moved to Vijayapura, worked as a tailor and later established a vegetable wholesale business. At a press conference on Friday, DGP Shankar Jiwal praised the ATS team and said, "I cannot disclose the operational details or the names of officers involved at this stage." They are expected to be formally charged under multiple provisions of IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

60 cases against them, how gang orchestrated series of house robberies in NCR

Noida: Dressed in formal clothes and driving around high-income neighbourhoods in Delhi-NCR in a sleek Honda City, the gang looked nothing like house burglars. That's what made them effective. Even security guards of gated societies rarely stopped them. Once they identified unoccupied homes, the men would return, often in broad daylight, break the locks, and flee with valuables ranging from gold jewellery to electronics. On Thursday night, their run came to an end after a gunfight with cops. When signalled to stop, the gang tried to speed away and opened fire at the police vehicle. During the chase, their car lost control and came to a halt. The men stepped out and fired again, but police returned fire, injuring Sanjeev. He was arrested on the spot, while the others were caught in a combing operation later. Cops seized two illegal pistols, 500 grams of gold jewellery, tools worth Rs 2 lakh, an Apple watch, and other electronic items from the Honda City, which too was impounded. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top Doctor: If You Eat Banana Every Day, This Is What Happens WellnessGuide Learn more Undo Police said the gang members met two years ago in a Delhi jail and came together after their release. Since then, they've targeted homes in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Haryana. Investigators believe they had recently burgled houses in Noida sectors 12 and 20 and were preparing for another hit, having already identified six new targets. Between them, the trio has over 60 criminal cases. Sanjeev alone is facing charges in 32 cases, most of them registered in Delhi. Aman has 13 cases in Noida and Delhi, and Sarvpal has 28. "They lived lavishly, selling stolen goods at low rates and spending freely," said additional DCP Sumit Shukla, adding that the gang may be linked to more than 100 burglaries. The Noida DCP has announced a Rs 25,000 reward for the team that tracked and arrested the suspects.

Deputy commissioner of police buys flat from bank, another lender seizes it citing mortgage by previous owner in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A deputy commissioner of police (DCP) has alleged that a bank sold him a mortgaged flat without disclosing a loan against it raised by its previous owner from another financial institution. The flat at Kaggalipura was sold to him by Jana Small Finance Bank two years ago, but Swarna Bharathi Sahakara Bank seized it, citing its mortgage status. DCP (City Armed Reserve-west) VC Gopala Reddy, said in his complaint to Central Crime Branch (CCB) police on July 7 that he purchased flat on the fourth floor of Sri Shankara Meadows through an e-auction by Jana Bank on July 24, 2023, by paying Rs 28 lakh. According to a senior police officer, Jana Bank executed the sale agreement but the property was yet to be registered. You Can Also Check: Bengaluru AQI | Weather in Bengaluru | Bank Holidays in Bengaluru | Public Holidays in Bengaluru Reddy was shocked when Swarna Bharati Sahakara Bank served a notice on May 8, telling him that he had been staying in the flat illegally. The bank's officials seized the property. When Reddy questioned Jana Bank officials Rajesh, Babu Srijith, Umesh, and Ranjan about not disclosing the flat's mortgage to Swarna Bharati, they didn't respond properly. Reddy stated that Jana Bank and its staff deceived him by hiding the facts. He wrote to Jana Bank asking for a return of the Rs 28 lakh he had paid for the flat, but there was no response to his letter. Informed by his friends about an advertisement on the e-auction of the flat, Reddy checked on the e-katha and other documents and also took a legal opinion from an advocate, the police officer said. As encumbrance documents were not found during the verification, Reddy purchased the flat. Police said the case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 316 (criminal breach of trust) and 318 (cheating) against all four staff, Jana Bank and Swarna Bharati. Further details will be known only after the investigation, the officer added. Police said their investigation would reveal who committed the alleged fraud by not disclosing the facts.
