The Hindu10-06-2025
IIM-Bangalore has been ranked among the world's leading business schools in the 2025 edition of the Positive Impact Rating (PIR). The Institute secured a Level 5 'Pioneering School' position with a PIR score of 9.3 out of 10, surpassing the global average of 7.8.
The Positive Impact Rating assesses a business school's contribution to societal progress and global good. It was initiated by a coalition of business school experts and is governed by a Swiss association. It is supported by founding endorsers, including WWF, Oxfam International, and the UN Global Compact Switzerland, with funding from VIVA Idea and the Institute for Business Sustainability (IBS).
Exceeding global benchmarks
Across PIR's seven core impact dimensions, IIMB delivered strong scores with Governance (9.42), Culture (9.32), and Public Engagement (9.29). Additionally, the institute recorded high scores in Programs, Learning Methods, Student Support, and Institute as a Role Model.
'Over the last decade, IIMB has steadily deepened its engagement with the principles of sustainable, responsible business. Our efforts have been deliberate and in close alignment with the institute's mission to create value for business, government, and society. It is encouraging to see that these efforts are recognised through consistent leadership across all impact dimensions,' said Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director, IIMB, commenting on the achievement.
Record participation
The sixth edition of the PIR saw a record participation of 86 business schools across 28 countries. Notably, this year's rating introduced a Faculty Survey alongside the student assessment, offering a dual-stakeholder perspective and a comparative view of how both students and faculty perceive their institution's commitment to societal impact.

World's First Full-Link Smart Home Ecosystem Debuts in Guangzhou

GUANGZHOU, China, July 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- On July 8, 2025, Heungkong Group and Tantron Group (TTG) co-hosted the Global Smart Ecosystem Summit (GSES) in Guangzhou, unveiling a historic leap for the smart home sector. The summit highlighted three industry-first breakthroughs: the world's inaugural interoperable, multi-protocol, and multi-scenario full-link smart ecosystem; unprecedented collaboration among 20 global top-tier brands; and the launch of the Global Smart Ecosystem Initiative, a consensus-based framework endorsed by industry leaders. This milestone cements China's shift from follower to frontrunner in smart home innovation. Ending Silos: Universal Gateway Technology Breaks Compatibility Limits For years, fragmented standards and protocol incompatibility have stifled smart home innovation. Heungkong Group, TTG, and global giants—including Switzerland's V-ZUG, Germany's Gaggenau, and Japan's Panasonic—have now broken the deadlock with their Universal Gateway technology. The solution bridges Matter, PLC, and Zigbee protocols, enabling real-time, cross-brand device synchronization. TTG founder Yao Minghai compared the system to a "polyglot translator", allowing devices that "speak different languages" to work seamlessly together. Tan Jianrong of the Chinese Academy of Engineering called the shift from single-device intelligence to full-link ecosystem intelligence a "transformative leap"—paralleling the evolution from feature phones to smartphones. Heungkong No. 1: World's First Ecosystem Demonstration Project Launches The Heungkong No.1 project has established three industry-firsts: cross-brand scenario-level device integration; full-lifecycle smart home service platform; and deep AI self-learning integration into home ecosystems. This innovation sets a new global standard for smart living. Mei Hing Chak, Chairwoman of Heungkong Group, stated, "We've combined German Industrie 4.0 precision, Swiss craftsmanship, and Chinese innovation to create a new future for smart living." Xu Xiaojian from Gaggenau announced the brand's first-ever full-link ecosystem integration, with dual support for Matter and Heungkong No.1 protocols. Driving Global Standards: China's Vision Gains International Backing The summit achieved unprecedented global alignment: Yves Leterme, former Belgian Prime Minister and Honorary Dean of Heungkong No.1 Future Life Art Institute, publicly endorsed the initiative; V-ZUG launched weekly technical exchanges with Chinese partners—a first for the Swiss manufacturer; while ASKO celebrated the collaboration as " Nordic engineering meets next-generation Chinese platform design ". More than 20 heritage brands—including Gaggenau, V-ZUG, ASKO, and Panasonic—jointly unveiled the Global Joint Initiative on Full-Link Smart Home Ecosystems. The China-proposed framework establishes 10 principles addressing interoperability, user data ownership, and sustainable technology. Professor Jin Sheng, AI ethics authority, highlighted its integration of "transparency, controllability, and explainability"—calling it "essential for ethical AI advancement." In a virtual keynote, former Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović noted, "Heungkong No.1 proves true progress isn't about technology alone, but humanity's wisdom in wielding it—not merely a market opportunity, but the evolution of civilization." Finally, Switzerland ratifies India-EFTA mega trade pact

New Delhi: Switzerland has finally completed the ratification process for a landmark trade deal between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) that would reduce trade barriers and significantly open up the Indian market to Swiss exports. Swiss Ambassador to India Maya Tissafi described Switzerland's ratification of the trade pact as a "significant milestone" in her country's bilateral relationship with New Delhi. The envoy told that the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) is expected to come into force in October. Under the mega trade pact, the EFTA states of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland are looking at making an investment of USD 100 billion in India over the next 15 years. Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway have already ratified the trade deal. In March, the four-nation European grouping signed the TEPA with India following nearly 16 years of negotiations. " At midnight yesterday (Swiss time), the referendum deadline for the EFTA-India TEPA officially expired. With no referendum, the Swiss people have expressed their tacit approval of the agreement," Tissafi said on Friday. Switzerland's ratification of the trade pact came more than seven months after the Swiss Council of States approved it. "The TEPA paves the way for long-term cooperation between our countries. Apart from reduced tariffs, it will help streamline customs procedures, enhance intellectual property protections and establish a framework for sustainable trade practices," Tissafi said.
