Gallagher brothers share a high-five and hug as Oasis reunite on stage after 16 years

Yahooa day ago
Oasis have reunited on stage for the first time in almost 16 years - with brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher sharing a high five and the briefest of hugs as they closed a performance that for fans was more than worth the wait.
After the split in 2009, for many years Noel said he would never go back - and for a long time, as the brothers exchanged insults through separate interviews (and on social media, for Liam), it seemed pretty unlikely to ever happen.
But now, here they are. As they walked out on stage at Cardiff's Principality Stadium, all eyes were on the Gallaghers for a sense of their relationship - dare we say it, friendship? - now after all these years.
There was no reference to their fall-out or making up, but the gestures were there - lifting hands together as they walked out for the first time.
Headlines and tweets of speculation and then confirmation of the reunion filled the screens as the show started. "This is happening," said one, repeatedly.
In the end, it was all about the music.
Liam has received criticism in the past for his voice not being what it once was during his solo or Beady Eye performances, but back on stage with his brother tonight he delivered exactly what fans would have hoped for - a raw, steely-eyed performance, snarling vocals, and the swagger that makes him arguably the greatest frontman of his day.
This was Oasis sounding almost as good as they ever have.
They opened with Hello, because of course, "it's good to be back". And then Acquiesce, and those lyrics: "Because we need each other/ We believe in one another."
The song is said to be about friendship in the wider sense, rather than their brotherly bond and sibling rivalry, but you can't help but feel like it means something here.
Over two hours, they played favourite after favourite - including Morning Glory, Some Might Say, Cigarettes & Alcohol, Supersonic and Roll With It.
In the mid-section, Liam takes his break for Noel to sing Talk Tonight, Half The World Away and Little By Little; the tempo slows but there is by no means a lull, with the fans singing all his words back to him.
Liam returns for hits including Stand By Me, Slide Away, Whatever and Live Forever, before sending the crowd wild (or even wilder) with Rock And Roll Star.
When the reunion announcement was made last summer, it quickly became overshadowed by the controversy of dynamic pricing causing prices to rocket. As he has done on X before, Liam addressed the issue on stage with a joke.
"Was it worth the £4,000 you paid for the ticket?" he shouted at one point. "Yeah," the crowd shouts back; seemingly all is forgiven.
After Rock And Roll Star, the dream that very quickly became a reality for this band, Noel introduced the rest of the group, calling Bonehead a "legend".
Then he acknowledges all their young fans, some who maybe weren't even born when they split. "This one is for all the people in their 20s who've never seen us before, who've kept this shit going," he says before the encore starts with The Masterplan.
Noel follows with Don't Look Back In Anger, and the screens fill with Manchester bees in reference to the arena bombing and how the song became the sound of hope and defiance for the city afterwards.
During Wonderwall, there's a nice touch as Liam sings to the crowd: "There are many things I would like to say to you, but I don't speak Welsh."
It is at the end of Champagne Supernova, which closes the set, that it happens; Noel puts down his guitar, and they come together for a high-five and a back-slap, a blink-and-you'd miss it hug.

"Right then, beautiful people, this is it," Liam had told the crowd as he introduced the song just a few minutes earlier. "Nice one for putting up with us over the years."
From the roar of the audience, it's safe to say most people here would agree it's been worth it.

Maisie Smith details how life has changed since boyfriend Max George's devastating open heart surgery

Soap star-turned-musical theatre actress Maisie Smith has got a new outlook on life after witnessing her boyfriend Max George go through his harrowing health ordeal. The Wanted singer Max has undergone heart surgery twice over the past year after being diagnosed with an atrioventricular block, which caused his heart to beat abnormally. Stopping for a chat with new during the Tric Awards at JW Marriott Grosvenor House hotel in London last month, Maisie, who turns 24 this week, says her boyfriend's health struggles have not only strengthened their tight bond, but transformed the choices they make in life. 'It has just made us realise how important life is and how much we've just got to live in the moment – you never know what's around the corner,' says Maisie. 'We're definitely more impulsive now and we know that anything is possible.' Maisie, who rose to fame for her role in EastEnders, which she made her debut in at just six years old, has been in a relationship with Max since 2022. The couple met in 2020 while competing on Strictly Come Dancing, striking up a friendship during the show, which saw Maisie reach the final alongside her professional dance partner Gorka Márquez. Max may not have been as successful on the dancefloor (he was voted out of Strictly in week four), but he did find lasting love with Maisie beyond the show and the pair eventually moved in together in Max's hometown, Manchester. However, in what has been an undeniably scary year for the couple, Max underwent surgery in December when his heart condition left him in need of a pacemaker. Following the operation, Max, 36, described the pacemaker as the 'best Christmas present' he could have received. But after complications from the first surgery, he was forced to go back for another procedure two months later. Sharing that it was successful, Max said at the time, 'It turned out that one of the leads was placed too far into my heart. The second pacemaker surgery took about two hours. So far, it seems to have been a success and they kindly let me listen to Oasis the whole time. It's been a setback, but it's just one of those things. I've had a few complications the last couple of months but I'm having loads of tests to make sure everything is all good. I'm sure I'll be back on top form in no time.' Maisie is clearly hugely relieved that everything is OK with him. 'Max is good – he's getting stronger every day,' she says. 'I'm so proud of how he's handled it too.' As we ask whether the situation has brought them any closer, Maisie laughs, saying, 'It was pretty hard for us to get any closer to be honest – we've always been inseparable.' Sharing that they're heading to France for a getaway this summer, it seems things are finally looking up for the duo. What began as a Strictly friendship, blossomed into romance after the pair grew closer on the show's live arena tour. Their series of Strictly was broadcast during the height of Covid, with social distancing restrictions in place, but they both joined the first post-pandemic live tour in January 2022. In the summer of that year, they were spotted on holiday together in Crete and, as anyone who follows their Instagram accounts will know, they've been smitten with each other ever since. Maisie is also busy in her professional life, which has seen her pursuing a musical theatre career, even working alongside Max. Most recently, she appeared in Jeff Wayne's Musical Version Of The War Of The Worlds with Max, where they play married couple Parson Nathaniel and his wife Beth, after Maisie played Belle in a pantomime version of Beauty And The Beast in Canterbury. So, what's next on the horizon? 'I can't actually tell you what I'm working on right now – I'm not allowed,' says Maisie. 'But I'm still loving doing theatre and that's my main focus.' As for the soap that propelled her to fame, she may have come a long way since playing Tiffany Butcher, but she maintains she still calls Albert Square home. 'I always say with EastEnders, you never know,' she says. 'Never say never about me returning. I grew up there and it is my home, but right now I'm loving doing my theatre work.' Maisie may not be planning her grand return to the soap any time soon, but she did get the chance to catch up with some former co-stars as EastEnders bagged the Soap Of The Year gong at the ceremony. With stars such as Emma Barton in attendance, she says, 'It's been great catching up with people. That's why I love award shows and things like this – you see people you haven't seen in about 10 years.' Maisie says she's also used the opportunity to spend a girlie day with her mum, Julia, who is also her manager. 'I've brought my mum along today,' she says. 'I take her everywhere.' Plane yoga is going viral on EasyJet and Spirit Airlines

The last place you'd think of doing a downward dog? An airplane. That might soon change, as plane yoga is apparently now a thing. TikTok creators are sharing in-flight videos of attendants guiding passengers through seated yoga flows. One viral video posted last month shows passengers on a fully booked EasyJet flight with their arms raised, following a flight attendant's cues while the '80s Flashdance hit 'Maniac' plays over the speakers. The video has since racked up 1.5 million views. @user1118383829333 what in the air-robics is going on @easyJet ♬ Maniac (dal Film Flashdance) – Film Orchestra 'He really said No DVT on this flight,' one comment read. Others were on board with the idea. 'Stop cause this would actually calm my anxiety down loads,' another user commented. 'Y'all ever done plane yoga?' another TikTok user asked, posting footage from a Spirit Airlines flight. In it, passengers stretch their arms overhead, following along with the flight attendant's instructions: 'Touch your toes, stretch your back out,' he says. 'And while you're down there, pick up all the trash you threw on the ground.' 'Oh spirit got jokes huh,' one user replied. 'Definitely a spirit thing to do,' wrote another. It turns out this isn't the first time Spirit has offered plane yoga as an in-flight activity. 'Spirit Airlines: Free Snacks, absolutely not. Mid-Flight Yoga Sesh – yes of course,' one TikTok user posted in 2024. The passengers once again followed the same yoga flow—with the same punch line at the end. @annarittmeyer Spirit has our whole plane doing yoga mid-flight! Haha honestly love this guy! 'Don't go too far you might tip the plane over' #spiritairlines #spiritflight #spirit ♬ original sound – Anna Mathias Rittmeyer Whether or not it's a clever ploy to get passengers to clean up after themselves, there's real science backing up the benefits of plane yoga. Flying, especially long-haul, can reduce circulation, stiffen joints, and increase the risk of blood clots. Flights longer than four hours are considered a risk factor for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. To lower that risk, Healthline recommends walking around at least once per hour and doing calf exercises. Or how about joining in on a quick plane yoga flow? Just maybe leave the downward dog for after landing.
