Jordon Smith suffered broken ribs, punctured lung in Arlington Supercross crash
Smith led laps 6 and 7, lost it for a little while and led laps 11 and 12 when the accident occurred. Haiden Deegan inherited the lead as the Alpinestars Medical crew evaluated Smith. He was carted off the track during podium interviews, waved to the crowd, and was transported to a local hospital for x-rays.

'After a hospital evaluation, (Smith) was diagnosed with a punctured lung. Thankfully, no other injuries were sustained, and he will do everything in his power to return for the East / West Showdown in Indianapolis,' Factory Triumph reported on social media.
On Sunday night, Smith provided a further update on X:
:What a bummer. Can be doing everything right and still things happen in this sport that you just don't know why. I'm beat up but I'll be back! I'm currently still in the hospital. I have four broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a small laceration in my spleen. They're monitoring me for a little longer and should be headed home in the morning. Thanks for all the support from the fans and from my family and team. We will come back stronger.
'Also huge thanks to the Alpinestars medical team for taking great care of me on the track and once we got back to the medic rig.'
Smith entered Arlington second in the 250 West rider points standings, two behind Julie Beaumer. Finishing 22nd, he fell to fifth after Arlington.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian names key player to stop on Ohio State
Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith burst onto the scene last year, fresh out of high school, to become one of the best players in the country and put together arguably the best season by a freshman wide receiver ever. He won't sneak up on anyone this year and will be known as -- if not the best -- then one of the best players in the country and one of the preseason frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy. It's hard to win the Heisman as a receiver, however, and his impact on a game is more than the stats you see at the end of games. Don't get me wrong, he'll surely put up some numbers again, this time in his sophomore season, but he's going to garner a lot of attention in multiple layers of the field that should open things up for others like receivers Carnell Tate and Brandon Innis, and tight end Max Klare. But Smith will also have the attention of the opposing coaching staffs. Just ask Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, who got to see him up front and in person during last year's College Football Playoff semifinal Cotton Bowl. He took some time to talk to Colin Cowherd and was quick to praise the generational talent that Smith is, even comparing him to a former NFL All-Pro star. 'You know, it's interesting. I had a chance to coach Julio Jones for two years in Atlanta," Sarkisian told Cowherd. "Reminds me a lot of him. So big and physical but yet fast. I mean cover ground, so strong at the point of attack when the ball's in the air. You see just the ability to make contested catches. "That's where your attention needs to be. But, hey, they've got really good coaches. He's going to be moving around. He's not going to be lining up in one position all the time. Ideally, you've got multiple people with eyes on him and guarding him, but you still have to play great team defense, and you've got to have ability to stop the run and you've got to cover the other two wideouts they have that are two really good players, too. I do think there's a multitude of things that you can do well, but you better know where No. 4 is at all times." The Longhorns did indeed know where Smith was last year and had a very good game plan to take him pretty much out of the game. He only had one catch for three yards against Texas, but again, that opened up opportunities for other players. Carnell Tate had seven catches for 87 yards and Will Howard still threw for 289 yards. You've probably heard someone you admire teach that to you a few times. As it turns out, they were right. Patience isn't something we place in high regard. That's especially true of the Philadelphia Eagles fan. Once upon a time, there were teams that wanted their young quarterbacks to sit and learn before throwing them into the fire. Nowadays, those same franchises hope those guys get up to speed and begin constructing Pro Bowl-caliber numbers before the calendar reaches Thanksgiving. If drafted higher, the clock is sped up. Here's the thing. Most acknowledge that quarterbacks need reps. Less often do we hear that sentiment when discussing young edge rushers. Nolan Smith's quiet confidence says everything Eagles fans need to hear Believe it or not, we're already entering year three of Nolan Smith and Jalen Carter's era in Philadelphia. We knew the latter would be a sure thing upon his entry into the NFL. Some had their doubts about the former. His size was mentioned as a potential weakness. He was staring up the depth chart at a Pro Bowler, Haason Reddick, so much of Smith's first season was spent on special teams. There was also a shoulder issue he was trying to labor through. Wouldn't you know it? That's all it took for some to shackle him with the 'bust' label. Bust? Are you serious? Those in the know, including this platform, knew all he needed was experience and time, and in his sophomore campaign, he turned the corner. Now, he has his sights set on achieving even more. That's what some refer to as quiet confidence, but as we've gotten to know Smith, we've found something out about his personality. Sometimes, that confidence is expressed at a higher decibel. Nolan Smith says he's looking to have more than 12 sacks next season!'That's on the low side' Did he just say he's on the hunt for double-digit sacks? Let's take an inventory. Last season, he trumped his single sack as a rookie by notching 6.5 in 16 games with ten starts. Then, he led all defenders with four sacks and four tackles for loss during the Eagles' march to another Super Bowl win. That being said. One of two things is possible. He could wear down by playing more snaps now that Bryce Huff and Josh Sweat are gone, or he could rise to the occasion with more responsibility and opportunity. We all have our opinions. This way, wagers are being placed on the latter scenario.
