Court pulls up cops for flawed probe, givesclean chit to attempt to murder accused
Citing lack of evidence and serious lapses in police investigation, the court gave clean chit to one Ashtbhuja Pathak, who was booked for plotting the attack on Abhishek, son of jeweller Sudhir Kesarwani over a property dispute in 2020.
Jeweller had named his elder brother, Rajesh Kesarwani and Ashtbhuja Pathak in the FIR and the police in its chargesheet had framed the accused.
The accused had to stay in jail for 40 days.
However, Additional Sessions Judge Madhu Dogra, hearing Pathak's discharge plea under Section 227 CrPC, found no direct or circumstantial evidence linking Pathak to the crime.
"The court noted that no CCTV footage captured the incident. Pathak's call records did not place him near the scene. No firearm or incriminating item was recovered. No prior complaints supported the claim that Pathak threatened the victim, and no independent witnesses corroborated the allegation," said senior lawyer, Pranshu Agarwal, who filed a discharge plea in the court on behalf of the accused Pathak.

"The investigating officer was trying to serve notice to him under Section 35(3) of BNSS, and as he did not receive the notice, the notice was sent to him by registered post," submitted the govt pleader. 1 2 Chandigarh: A day after the UT police dismantled an international drug syndicate operating in the Tricity, arresting three foreign nationals staying illegally in the country — with two of them living in Kharar, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Chandigarh Zonal Unit and Punjab Police jointly conducted a search operation in the Kharar area of Mohali district on Sunday to clamp down on drug trafficking and overstaying foreign nationals. Among the arrested individuals, Imoru Damian (31), a Nigerian national, and Toufe Yousouf (30) from Cape Town, South Africa stayed in a rented flat in Kharar. Police seized significant quantities of cocaine and amphetamine, along with a Honda City car used in the operation. The NCB-police joint operation specifically targeted rented accommodations near a private university and Gharuan village, areas flagged for developing into clusters of foreign nationals—mainly from African countries. During the drive, teams inspected around 20 flats and paying guest accommodations (PGs), checking the visa and passport details of foreign residents. Officials said the operation was a preventive measure to address concerns about "ghettoisation" and the potential misuse of rented premises by foreign nationals involved in illegal activities, particularly drug trade. Barabanki group caught in Mansa Devi stampede; farmer dead, many hurt
Lucknow: Vakil Prasad Verma, 58, from Maulabad village of Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district was one of the victims of Sunday's stampede Haridwar's Mansa Devi temple. He had travelled to Haridwar as part of a group of 18 from the same district. Several others from the group, including Durga Vati (54), Radhika (40), and Phoolmati from Dhaurmau village, sustained critical injuries. Harishchandra, former gram pradhan and Vakil's close friend, recounted the tragedy: "At 9 am, we learned Vakil was killed, while my sister-in-law Durga Vati, neighbour Radhika, and Phoolmati were critically injured.
