NCAA to receive special citation in Collegiate Press Corps Awards Night for centennial season
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) will be recognized when the Collegiate Press Corps holds its annual awards nights on June 30 at the Discovery Suites Manila in Ortigas, Pasig City.
The NCAA is set to be handed a special citation in honor of its 100 years of excellence in sports, producing outstanding student-athletes across various disciplines.
The country's oldest league is staging its Season 100 with a theme of "Siglo Uno: Inspiring Legacies", which saw several schools achieve historic milestones.
For one, Mapua University ended a long 33-year title drought in men's basketball with the likes of Clint Escamis, Cyrus Cuenco, Lawrence Mangubat, and Chris Hubilla conniving to beat De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in the finals.
The last time the Cardinals reigned supreme was in 1991, when head coach Randy Alcantara was still suiting up for the school together with Benny Cheng.
In men's volleyball, Arellano University captured its first-ever title led by Finals MVP Carl Berdal and other key players such as Adrian Villados, Anfernee Curamen, AC Guinto, Jiwen Sinuto, and Jake Pangilinan.
While it marked a historic breakthrough for the Chiefs, the Lady Blazers solidified their dominance by extending their championship dynasty in the women's division.
Mycah Go and Zam Nolasco fronted their four-peat run as they swept Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the finals that marked the first time the squad accomplished such a feat.
Season 100 also saw the success of the Perpetual Junior ALTAs with the talented crew hoisting the team's maiden crown in the juniors basketball division.
San Beda University, meanwhile, proved its caliber in other sports after claiming its third straight and 26th overall crown in men's football tournament, while its swimming team continued to dominate with a 21st straight championship in the men's division and an 11th consecutive crown in the women's category.
Later this month, the NCAA will host its first-ever esports tournament with Mobile Legends: Bang Bang serving as a special event.

They now get to represent the country in the biennial meet touted as one of the premier MLBB tournaments in the region. Team Liquid will also have the task of preserving the Philippines' gold medal streaks in MLBB SEA Games with the country ruling the last three editions since 2019. Despite heading to an unfamiliar territory, Team Liquid has proven in the past it can dominate the international stage after it ruled the M4 World Championship in 2023 while finishing third in MSC 2023. Clint Escamis is CPC Basketball Player of the Year; Carl Berdal, Zam Nolasco take top volleyball honors for NCAA
Mapua University's Clint Escamis was named by the Collegiate Press Corps as its Basketball Player of the Year which will be given on Monday in its annual Awards Night. Escamis, the Season 99 Most Valuable Player, led the Cardinals to its first title since 1991 in NCAA Season 100. By the end of the elimination round, Escamis had averages of 15.44 points, 3.61 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.89 steals per game and was among the league's leaders in scoring, total assists, and steals in the past season. In the finals where the Cardinals swept De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Escamis posted averages of 24.5 points, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals to be named as Finals MVP. Carl Berdal of Arellano University and Benilde's Zam Nolasco, meanwhile, were named as the Collegiate Press Corps NCAA Men's and Women's Volleyball Players of the Year, respectively. Berdal was named the Finals MVP of the Season 100 men's volleyball tournament as he led the Chiefs to its first title in men's volleyball. The Arellano veteran was among the league's top scorers at 11th place with a total of 255 points, a leader in spiking with 44.19% success rate, and second overall in receiving with an efficiency rate of 56.84%. Nolasco, on the other hand, was crucial in the Lady Blazers' campaign to reach their fourth straight title. The third year middle blocker was 12th overall in scoring with 211 points, and number one in blocking with 0.73 average by set, which earned her a spot in the league's Best Middle Blockers this season. In Game 1 of the finals, Nolasco paced Benilde with 21 points, eight from blocks, as the Lady Blazers eventually won the title. NCAA soft tennis players cop bronze in Korean tilt
NCAA soft tennis players starred in the NongHyup Bank Incheon Korean Cup International Soft Tennis Tournament in South Korea as they finished bronze in the said tournament held last June 16 to 23. Angela Valdez of San Beda University and her Mongolia partner Garidmagnai Tengis bagged the consolation mixed doubles bronze. Hillary Sophie Paas (San Sebastian College) and her partner Bayarmaa Bilguun of Mongolia were bronze medalists, too, in the consolation mixed doubles. In the mixed team event, Paas, Aira Jane Nuguit (University of Perpetual Help System DALTA), and Noeus Elna Beronio (De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde) finished third with their Mongolian teammates.
