Julian McMahon's vast fortune revealed after theory emerged about Scientology link following Aussie actor's shock death at 56

Julian McMahon's vast fortune has been revealed after a theory emerged about a Scientology link following the actor's death at the age of 56. McMahon's wife Kelly confirmed in a statement the Australian-American star died in Clearwater, Florida, on Thursday after a battle with cancer. 'With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,' she told Deadline on Friday. 'Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible." McMahon's career took off with his role as Cole Turner in the hit supernatural television series Charmed from 2000 to 2003. He soon gained wider recognition from 2003 to 2010 in the medical drama Nip/Tuck, in which he played the role of plastic surgeon Dr Christian Troy. Over three decades as a leading man, the US-based star accumulated a net worth of $16 million USD ($24 million AUD) at the time of his death, according to reports. McMahon earned $125,000 USD ($192,000 AUD) per episode in Nip/Tuck. His salary then doubled the following year, and he continued to reach career milestones thereafter. McMahon added to his fortune through real estate, selling his home in the Hollywood Hills in 2015 for $2.18 million USD ($3.3 million AUD). The sale saw the star earn a tidy profit of $1.5 million USD ($2.3 million AUD). The development comes after the location of McMahon's death, Clearwater, stood out to social media users for the Church of Scientology being widely known to dominate the city on Florida's Gulf Coast. Scientology's world headquarters, Flag, is located in the heart of downtown, where its members reportedly own a large portion of the area's real estate. The mention of Clearwater in Kelly McMahon's statement sparked a fierce online debate about why the actor, who had no public ties to the area, would spend his final days there. 'I was wondering if Julian McMahon was a Scientologist since (Kelly's statement) said he died in Clearwater," one person wrote on Instagram. "Because why else would he live the last few months of his life there? The only celebrities that do are usually Scientologists. Surprised, that's for certain!" Another conspiracist took to X to question, 'Why was Julian McMahon in Clearwater when he died? Like, that's Scientology city.' However, another person offered a different theory as the debate continued on Reddit. 'He was an Australian who loved the beach," the fan wrote. "I don't see him being involved with Scientology.' is not suggesting McMahon or his family are affiliated with Scientology. It remains unclear whether McMahon has been living in Clearwater in the months before his death, and his family has not commented further. The actor, his wife Kelly, his ex-wife Brooke Burns and daughter Madison are not mentioned in any publicly available Scientology records.

Ben O'Shea: There's a sinister side to kids' ‘sedate' online gardening game

If you pay even casual attention to what your children do on their devices, you may have heard the name Grow a Garden mentioned recently. It's the latest in a long line of hit games hosted on the Roblox platform, and looks harmless enough. Compared to other games on the platform, Grow a Garden is positively sedate verging on boring, and revolves around users purchasing seeds, planting those seeds and then waiting for various plants to sprout on their own little patch of land. A parent looking over their child's shoulders to see what they were up to on their device would take one look at Grow a Garden's gameplay and quickly decide that watching grass grow would be more riveting. Despite this, the game is immensely popular around the world, with an estimated nine billion visits since it launched in March. It's free to play, but in-game purchases enhance the experience and status of users, so there's an incentive to exchange actual money for Robux, the platform's official currency. And don't be fooled by the laidback gameplay — users are fiercely competitive when it comes to obtaining the rarest seeds, which have the most prestige. The game offers regular 'updates', where limited edition seed types are released, thereby generating obsessive behaviour from users looking to separate their gardens from the rest. Roblox is a US-based platform, so these updates usually fall at heinous times for West Aussie users, who would predominantly be under 15. But late nights and addiction aren't the only perils facing kids who play this 'harmless' gardening game. An American forensic financial research company last year described Roblox as a 'X-rated pedophile hellscape', after repeated allegations of child grooming and inappropriate content on the platform. Belatedly, Roblox tightened up parental controls late last year, but, crucially, these controls rely on parents setting up their own Roblox accounts to link to the accounts of their kids. How many parents reading this have a Roblox account and have followed these protocols? Not many, would be the correct answer. If your child also has a phone and a Snapchat account then there is considerable potential for harm. The gameplay of Grow a Garden encourages users to share seeds with each other, and it's not uncommon for a complete random to do so. And the game then asks users if they'd like to add this random to their list of Roblox friends, giving them access to private chat features. Given how highly prized some of these seeds are — your child might literally kill to get their mitts on the rarest Burning Bud — it's not hard to see how this makes them vulnerable to those with harmful intent. While the in-game chat function prohibits the sharing of contact details, its filter isn't sophisticated enough to realise '$n4p garden52' is code for 'My Snapchat username is @garden52'. With WA kids likely to be spending even more time than usual playing Grow a Garden during the school holidays, maybe it would pay to see exactly how their garden grows.

Michael Douglas hints at criticism of Trump in scathing political remarks

'To Di For' podcast host Kinsey Schofield reacts to Michael Douglas announcing he has no intention of returning to acting. The actor also claimed that American idealism no longer exists, and people now enter US politics solely to 'make money'. 'I think he's talking about Trump because there are jokes about Trump perfume and Trump bibles,' Ms Schofield told Sky News host Rita Panahi. 'I think he's being critical of our current President.'
