The Utah Jazz have a bright future ahead of them in their backcourt. Utah selected uber-talented Ace Bailey with the No. 5 pick and traded up to get former Florida Gators guard Walter Clayton Jr. at No. 18.

With these incoming rookies, the Jazz traded guard Collin Sexton and a 2030 second-round draft pick to the Charlotte Hornets for 12-year NBA veteran center Jusuf Nurkic on Sunday, first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania.
With the departure of Sexton, who started 112 games for the Jazz over the past two years while averaging over 18 points per contest, this opens up the door for Bailey, and possibly Clayton, to enter the starting five right away.

Utah will almost certainly begin the season with Bailey as a starter, but the question is will Clayton get the starting nod on opening night?
It is clear the Jazz are very high on the national champion Clayton. Utah traded up three spots from 21st to 18th on draft night to select him two picks before the Miami Heat were on the clock. Before the draft, there were reports that Miami would select Clayton if he were available at No. 20.

Clayton is coming off an incredible senior year at Florida, earning first-team All-America honors, the only UF player to achieve this distinction in program history. He averaged over 18 points with three made 3-pointers per game en route to a national title with the Gators.
With Clayton and Bailey set to make their NBA Summer League debuts in the next two weeks, it will be very interesting to see where they end up come late October.

AJ Dybantsa, the potential No. 1 NBA pick in 2026, leads U.S. to gold: Takeaways

Team USA entered the FIBA U19 World Cup in Switzerland as the gold medal favorite, and the Americans lived up to the hype, capturing the title with a dominant 109-76 victory over previously unbeaten Germany in Sunday's championship game. Both teams were 6-0 heading into the final, but the Americans' depth and firepower proved too much for a German squad led by Texas Tech standout and All-Big 12 freshman Christian Anderson Jr. Advertisement Incoming BYU star freshman AJ Dybantsa capped off an impressive tournament run by achieving his goal — bringing home the gold with Team USA and taking home MVP honors with averages of 14.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Throughout the tournament, Dybantsa showed why he is such a highly touted prospect and presumed by many to be the No. 1 pick in next year's draft. Dybantsa can impact both ends of the floor at a high level and has the potential to be a two-way star at the next level. He didn't shoot well from 3 in this tournament (11.1 percent), but he should benefit by playing in BYU's offense, a system that will give him wide-open opportunities. What Dybantsa can do with the ball in his hands is reminiscent of Paul George. He is a big-shot creator with an excellent feel for the game, who can get downhill to either score or make plays for others. He also has a great motor; you don't typically see kids ranked this high play this hard so consistently. He had a steal in every game but one (France), but his length and activity were always a problem for opposing teams. AJ Dybantsa 🇺🇸 (@AJ_Dybantsa) Was named 'MVP' of the FIBA U19 World Cup. But the 2026 class isn't as clear-cut as Cooper Flagg's 2025 class. This class has four prospects capable of going first, including Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson (Kansas), Cameron Boozer (Duke) and Mikel Brown Jr. (Louisville). Several prospects boosted their draft stock during the World Cup, including Brown and Anderson. Advertisement Brown, in particular, made a major statement — firmly inserting himself into the conversation as a potential No. 1 overall pick. He led Team USA in scoring (14.9 points) and assists (6.1) on 46/47/82 shooting splits. He also led the team in efficiency and made 3s (20). His combination of skill and feel as a lead guard will have plenty of NBA teams lined up wanting him to run the show. Louisville's Mikel Brown Jr again put together another elite offensive performance vs Cameroon this time. Mikel had: 24 points 2 rebounds 8 assists 9-12 FG5-6 3PT19 minutes Mikel has been firmly making his case as a top 5 prospect in the 2026 draft class — Arman Jovic (@PDTScouting) July 1, 2025 As for Anderson, he will be in the running to be Big 12 Player of the Year and first-team All-Big 12, alongside teammate JT Toppin, as the Red Raiders look to make another deep tournament run. Anderson averaged 17.3 points (10th in the tournament), 4.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists (second in the tournament), including two games in which he scored 27 and 29 points. He was arguably the best guard in the tournament, displaying similarities in his game to NBA veteran Dennis Schröder. Anderson will be on the German National Team for the 2028 Olympics. The 2025-26 season is set to be a landmark year for the Big 12, with the league welcoming its most loaded freshman class ever. Ten of the top 24 prospects — and 16 of the top 100, including Baylor's Koa Peat — are set to bring their talents to the conference. In Team USA's win, Peat became the first player to win three World Cup titles in FIBA youth competitions. Peat was one of the more consistent players throughout the tournament, averaging 12.6 points and 6.9 rebounds. There were 54 college players in this tournament, which speaks to the depth of talent in the sport, especially as more international players come over. Advertisement Eric Reibe (Germany) and Jacob Furphy (Australia) make UConn deeper and more dangerous. Foreign prospects like Dash Daniels (Australia) get most of the headlines, but Furphy may be the best pro of all the international prospects in this tournament. The Washington Huskies are also in great shape moving forward, with JJ Mandaquit (Team USA) and Hannes Steinbach (Germany).

Wizards Facing Backlash After Trade Announcement on Sunday

Wizards Facing Backlash After Trade Announcement on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With their recent moves, the Washington Wizards have positioned themselves quite well for next year's free agency. First, they traded Kyle Kuzma for Khris Middleton at the NBA trade deadline, then traded Jordan Poole for CJ McCollum and Kelly Olynyk. Advertisement Doing so will give them ample cap space for 2027, when the salary cap is expected to go even higher. By then, Middleton, McCollum, Olynyk, and Marcus Smart will all be off their payroll, opening up a lot of cap room. However, adding Olynyk was certainly curious on the Wizards' part. Not because Olynyk can't play because he certainly still can. He's coming off a season where he averaged 8.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. New Orleans Pelicans forward Kelly Olynyk (13) and Utah Jazz forward KJ Martin (99)Rob Gray-Imagn Images Olynyk has his own personal history with the Wizards from his days with the Boston Celtics. Most notably, Olynyk played a huge role in helping the Celtics eliminate the Wizards in the 2017 NBA Playoffs, as he put up 26 points in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals matchup, with 15 coming in the fourth quarter. Advertisement For that reason, Wizards fans were none too happy to see him become one of their latest additions. It is very clear they still vividly remember what Olynyk did that night. "We will never forgive you for what you did to the Wizards on May 15, 2017," one wrote. 'THROW BEER CANS AT HIM!!!!!!!" another exclaimed. "Nah (expletive) Kelly Olynyk. Don't ever want to see him in a wizards uni," another demanded. "Trade ASAP we will boo him so hard on his introduction, might as well save the trouble," another demanded. Since Olynyk's time with the Celtics ended in 2017, he's bounced around with the Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons, Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors, and the Pelicans before landing with the Wizards. Orioles Pick Up Minor-League Catcher from Yankees, Put Gary Sánchez on IL

Orioles Pick Up Minor-League Catcher from Yankees, Put Gary Sánchez on IL originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After seeing catcher Gary Sánchez leave Saturday's 9-6 victory over the Atlanta Braves, the Baltimore Orioles needed to make a move. The Orioles pulled off an inter-division trade with the New York Yankees on Sunday. Advertisement Baltimore picked up minor-league catcher Alex Jackson and immediately added him to their 40-man roster. In exchange, the Orioles will give New York international bonus pool space, plus either a player to be named or cash considerations. Sánchez has been one of the veterans that Baltimore hoped would help them battle for the top spot against the Yankees in the American League East Division. This season, though, has not been what the Orioles had hoped it would be coming out of spring training. Sánchez was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a sprained right knee. For some context on the Orioles' catching situation, beat writer Matt Weyrich of the Baltimore Sun posted on X that of 12 catchers on the IL in MLB now, 33% of them play for the Orioles: Adley Rutschman, Sánchez, Maverick Handley and Chadwick Tromp. Advertisement Additionally, Weyrich also reported on Sunday that Baltimore added catcher David Bañuelos to their medical taxi squad. New Orioles catcher Alex Jackson has some MLB experience as he fills Sánchez's spot Jackson, 29, put together a slash line of .226/.308/.463 with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs in 44 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, reported. Jackson has thrown out 26.3 percent (10-of-38) of stolen base attempts made on him. He was the No. 6 overall pick by the Seattle Mariners in the 2014 Draft, and has appeared in 124 MLB games for four different franchises. Sánchez left Saturday's 9-6 Orioles victory over the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park in Atlanta with right knee pain. He's hitting .231 with five homers and 24 RBIs in 29 games this season. Advertisement In another move on Sunday, the Orioles moved infielder-outfielder Jorge Mateo to the 60-day Injured List. Mateo is recovering from a left hamstring strain. Baltimore played an early game on Sunday against the Braves, looking to record a sweep of their weekend series.
