27 Egyptian companies to participate in Libya Build exhibition in Tripoli

Libya Observer11-05-2025
The Chairman of Egypt's Export Council for Chemical Industries and Fertilizers, Khaled Abu Al-Makarem, confirmed the participation of 27 Egyptian companies in the 17th edition of the Libya Build exhibition in Tripoli, scheduled to take place from May 12 to 15, 2025.
The companies will exhibit over an area of 436 square meters, alongside participants from nine countries including Italy, Turkey, Egypt, France, Malta, Tunisia, Germany, China, and Austria. The event aims to strengthen economic cooperation between Egypt and Libya.
According to Al-Mal newspaper, Abu Al-Makarem said that the participation seeks to boost the presence of Egyptian products in the Libyan market and open new channels of cooperation with Libyan partners, particularly given the growing demand for high-quality and competitively priced Egyptian chemical products.
He stressed that the Libyan market is a vital destination for Egyptian exports, adding that the Libya Build exhibition serves as a strategic platform for enhancing trade relations between the two countries and increasing chemical exports, thereby supporting Egypt's national economy and its export growth targets.
The Executive Director of the Export Council for Chemical Industries and Fertilizers, Mohamed Magid, said the council aims, through this participation, to open new markets for Egyptian companies and strengthen their footprint in the Libyan market, which offers promising opportunities for growth and investment.
The Egyptian presence comes amid a surge in sector exports to Libya in 2024, with plastic product exports reaching around $103 million, inks and paints $94 million, detergents $36 million, various chemical products $15 million, glass products $13 million, and fertilizers $11 million, among other Egyptian goods.

LIA showcases its asset deployment plan and international partnership strategy in London

The Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) held an investment forum in London to present its vision and future plan for deploying its assets, strengthening international partnerships, and exploring new investment opportunities that contribute to supporting the Libyan economy and achieving long-term financial sustainability. The forum was held last Thursday with the participation of representatives from international banks, asset managers, and investment funds. LIA delivered a detailed presentation on its financial investment portfolio, in line with the UN Security Council resolution that permits it to invest its assets, according to a statement published on the Authority's Facebook page on Monday. Participating institutions included Bank of New York, JPMorgan, Euroclear, Qatar National Bank, Jefferies, as well as the financial services companies Marks, Western Asset, Notz Stucki, Waverton, Sculptor, Carlyle, and Federated Hermes. In January, the UN Security Council issued Resolution 2769 for the year 2025, allowing the LIA to invest its frozen cash reserves in low-risk time deposits with international financial institutions, while keeping the principal and returns frozen. It also permitted the reinvestment of accumulated cash held by investment fund managers, under the same freezing conditions. The Libyan Investment Authority holds assets valued at $39.5 billion, divided into three investment portfolios: time deposits representing 57.5% of the total portfolio, equities at 23.49%, and investment funds at 19.01%. CBL freezes accounts of 12 companies in major medical supply corruption probe

The Central Bank of Libya (CBL) has ordered commercial banks to freeze the current accounts of 12 companies implicated in a high-profile corruption case involving the Medical Supply Agency. The companies had received substantial payments in exchange for supplying medicines and medical equipment to hospitals and health centers, as part of contracts now under investigation. The directive was issued via an official letter from the Deputy Director of the Banking and Currency Supervision Department to bank managers, following a request from the Administrative Control Authority. The letter refers to ongoing investigations into serious violations and misconduct by officials at the Medical Supply Agency. Earlier this week, the Administrative Control Authority announced the suspension of the head of the Medical Supply Agency, along with three other agency officials and two individuals from the Administrative Control Authority, accused them of embezzling 73 million Libyan dinars through the falsification of official documents.
