Genesis reveals wild, track-ready sedan, but will it actually release a BMW M3 rival?
The Genesis G70 Track Day Special Concept is a one-off project vehicle produced by Genesis Motors Canada that builds on the previously revealed G70 Track Taxi Nordschleife.
In fact, it's fitted with the same suspension setup and 19-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres as the Track Taxi.
However, it gains a more aggressive bonnet with vents, as well as a huge rear wing.

It's not as orange as the Track Taxi, and instead of the whole vehicle being painted in the lurid hue, it's reserved for graphics that run down the side of the vehicle and across the top of the windscreen.
The Track Day Special Concept also features front and rear tow points and yellow running lights.
It's the latest take on a hot G70, following the Track Taxi which is being used – as the name suggests – to provide rides around the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Each of the Track Taxis in this fleet is powered by a 3.3-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 producing 274kW of power and 510Nm of torque.
While they're finished in Genesis' retina-searing Magma Orange hero colour, the Korean luxury brand has yet to reveal a fully fledged G70 Magma production vehicle.
'We are now gauging demand from the market, if we develop this one. Now we are under study,' Genesis global boss Mike Song told Australian media in January.
The company had previously said all of its models will get a hotter performance version under the new Magma sub-brand, which debuted in 2024 with hotted-up concept versions of the GV60, GV80 Coupe and G80.
Genesis hasn't explicitly said what each Magma vehicle will receive over the models they're based on, though more power, revised suspension tuning and more aggressive visuals are expected.
When asked whether Australia will get access to all Magma production models, Mr Song said: 'Yes, except the G90.'
'G90 we don't have right-hand drive. Any one [country] that has [right-hand drive], we'll have the Magma model.'
But will the G70 be around long enough to receive a Magma makeover?
It entered production back in 2017 and, though a facelift was revealed in 2020, it would appear the G70 is at the end of its lifecycle.
There has been a mix of overseas reports and comments from Genesis itself suggesting the G70 could either be replaced by an electric model or axed entirely.
Genesis vice president of global communications Till Warternberg even suggested to Road & Track that a next-generation G70 could come with a lower base price, giving the brand a lower entry point.
He also confirmed the model hadn't been cancelled, though development of the G70's replacement would appear to be in flux.
The G70 is both Genesis' oldest model and its slowest seller in Australia.
'It's up to the market, still we don't kill it. Still we don't announce what the next-generation G70 looks like,' Mr Song told Australian media in January.
'For G70 especially, this is our first model, and still there are customers who really love their G70 and who really want to have their G70, so it's still going on. So it's not time to think of the next-generation of G70 yet.'
Sedans remain popular in South Korea, but even there G70 sales have dropped off significantly during its run.
Last year, the G70 – including the Shooting Brake wagon – was Genesis' second lowest-volume vehicle in South Korea with 2361 sales, ahead of only the GV60 (590 sales).
In Australia, it was dead last in the lineup with just 45 deliveries, though looking at overall export sales it was Genesis' third best-selling vehicle with 13,902 sales, behind only the GV70 (19,191) and GV80 (28,657). It was also its third-best seller in the crucial US market.
The Genesis boss scoffed at the idea of dropping sedans.
'Definitely we need to have the balance in our lineup. We don't want to kill all the sedans just because we don't see any big volume forecast,' he said.
'[A] hundred per cent SUV brand? I don't think so.'

MG's new premium EVs may not be MGs for long
MG is launching a pair of more premium electric vehicles (EVs) from another SAIC Motor brand, but this may be spun off into a separate premium arm in Australia, too. Established over four years ago as a joint venture between SAIC Motor and the Alibaba Group, with the latter providing much of the software, IM Motors sits above MG, LDV/Maxus and Roewe in the SAIC Motor empire. But in Australia, the brand is being launched as more of a sub-brand, officially titled IM Presented by MG Motor. The two IM vehicles are being sold as the MG IM5 and MG IM6, and even feature an MG Motor badge on their tailgates. Selling them in MG showrooms – where they won't be the only premium product anyway, following the launch of the Cyberster – allows the company to bring them in at a more tempting price. CarExpert can save you thousands on a new car. Click here to get a great deal. 'From my point of view, every coin has two sides. If we want to build the brand independently, we have a calculation – maybe each car, we'll add extra, maybe 10 to 15,000 AUD for the car because you need to build the showroom, you need to hire the sales consultants, you need to build the stock, all the things,' said Xu Chenyang, IM Motors Area General Manager for Australia. By leveraging MG's existing dealer network, then, the company can bring vehicles to market at a more affordable price. 'From my point of view, it's the best choice for the customer,' said Mr Xu. But that doesn't meet IM vehicles will be sold in MG showrooms forever. There's already talk of separating the brand. 'IM in Australia, and [MG Motor Australia CEO Peter Ciao] wants for the future, is a separate brand. Just in the very beginning, we're in the same showroom, with the sales volume for a while. He's willing to separate into two networks,' said Mr Xu, stopping short of confirming the specific sales targets the IM5 and IM6 need to meet for this to happen. 'It's just like the very beginning [of] Lexus and Toyota, sometimes they are also in the same showroom, but when the sales volumes [went up] they separated.' Another comparison can be drawn, this time with Hyundai's Genesis brand. Initially, Hyundai sold a vehicle called the Genesis, before it established Genesis as a standalone brand; that Hyundai Genesis sedan subsequently became the Genesis G80. Mr Xu said in China, where IM has a separate dealer network, its biggest competitors are Tesla and Zeekr. But while Tesla is reaching further downmarket, IM doesn't plan to encroach on the territory of other SAIC Motor brands. 'In China, IM normally sells above 200,000 RMB [A$43,000]. MG is around 100,000 RMB [A$21,500],' said Mr Xu. In addition to the mid-size IM5 liftback and IM6 SUV – sold there as the L6 and LS6 – IM Motors has the larger L7 sedan and LS7 SUV in China. These will be joined later this year by the LS9, the brand's largest SUV yet and its first extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) with a petrol engine used as a generator. The LS6 is also receiving a facelift and gaining an EREV powertrain. 'In the end of this year, we'll release the LS9 and new LS6. These are also above 200,000 RMB. So we don't have the plan to lower the brand positioning right now, because the SAIC group has got all the other brands,' said Mr Xu. ABOVE: IM LS9, facelifted LS6 'IM's positioning is above 200,000 RMB for our group's strategy.' Could we see some of these other models in local showrooms? 'We already launched some new models, but it depends on the CEO for MG, because once you import one car, you pay a lot for homologation and for ANCAP and for the modifications for right-hand drive. So it depends on Peter's decision whether he wants to import more IMs to this market,' said Mr Xu. He said he believed EREVs would be suitable for Australia, but these new vehicles haven't been signed off for Australia. Both the IM5 and IM6 start at $60,990 drive-away. The smaller Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, in contrast, start at $54,900 and $58,900 before on-road costs.

Cut-price electric Kia Picanto replacement coming to take on BYD Seagull
Kia has confirmed it's planning an affordable city-sized electric car – even smaller than the 2026 Kia EV2 already announced – and much would be a direct competitor to the BYD Seagull, Dacia Spring and Fiat 500e. Speaking to UK publication Autocar, Kia president and CEO Ho Sung Song said a cheaper, smaller electric city car, which could be called the EV1, was "homework" for the company's product developers, confirming such a car was "one area we are studying and developing". Mr Song also said affordable, city-sized cars would remain an important part of the brand's lineup as European buyers move towards EVs. Kia technically already offers a city-sized EV – the Picanto-based Ray – but this tall, boxy model is exclusive to Korea. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. The new city EV would take over from Kia's entry-level petrol-powered Picanto – currently Australia's cheapest new car – which was significantly updated in 2023 and still sells strongly in Europe. With a replacement still as far off as 2028-2029, the Picanto's successor could well ditch the current version's 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine to become a battery-electric city hatch. It would face the BYD Seagull, set to go on sale in the United Kingdom later this year as the Dolphin Surf, at less than £20,000 ($41,874). The Seagull is under consideration for Australian showrooms and could become the cheapest EV offered here, given it would sit below the current price leader – the BYD Dolphin electric hatch at $29,990 drive-away. Even then, the current petrol Picanto could remain on sale alongside a newer, electric offering in Kia showrooms. Other brands have also planned this approach, such as Volkswagen, which intends to sell the petrol-powered Golf alongside battery-electric versions well into next decade. Kia has been prolific in rolling out new EVs. Its smallest, the funky EV2 five-door SUV, is due on sale overseas in 2026 but is unlikely to be offered here. The Kia EV4 electric sedan – a Tesla Model 3 rival – is scheduled to arrive in Australia in the last quarter (October-December) of 2025, joining the EV3, EV5, EV6 and EV9 electric Kias currently in Australian showrooms. The EV5 has been Kia Australia's most popular EV so far in 2025 and the fourth-most popular EV overall, with 2765 delivered to the end of June – putting it behind the third-place Model 3 with the MG 4 behind in fifth. Mr Song said Europe will "drive volume from a full EV lineup" because of a "strong trend" towards electric cars – yet internal combustion engines will remain important in emerging markets lacking electric-charging infrastructure. It will also enable Kia to maintain a flexible approach to respond to market trends when necessary. "The final destination in Europe is EVs, which is why I want to be a very strong EV player in Europe… but if we look at worldwide demand we should have alternative powertrains, like hybrids, plug-in [hybrids] and EREVs [extended-range electric vehicles]," he said. Sales of hybrids in Australia in the first six months of 2025 increased 14.9 per cent, following a 76 per cent jump in popularity in 2024, while key markets – including China and the United States – have also seen significant hybrid growth.
