Aljadaan outlines Saudi priorities at IsDB Annual Meetings in Algiers
RIYADH — Minister of Finance and Saudi Arabia's Governor at the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, Mohammed Aljadaan, led the Kingdom's delegation to the IsDB Group's Annual Meetings held in Algiers from May 19 to 22.
Held under the theme 'Diversifying Economies, Enriching Lives,' the meetings focused on advancing economic transformation and improving living standards across IsDB member countries, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.
During the general session of the IsDB Board of Governors, Aljadaan addressed the group's strategic framework for 2026–2035, describing it as a foundational roadmap for institutional performance in the coming decade.
'We all recognize that the success of this ambitious vision is closely tied to the establishment of clear and practical mechanisms for measuring development impact,' Aljadaan said.
'An integrated system of indicators will ensure transparency, accountability, and effective monitoring of implementation plans.'
In a Governors Roundtable Meeting titled 'Bridging the Gap: Multilateralism, Changing Trade Dynamics, and the Future of Development Finance,' Aljadaan highlighted the IsDB's key role in driving economic growth, regional integration, and fostering intra-trade and joint investment among member states.
He called for greater synergy and coordination among IsDB-affiliated institutions.
He also urged support for structural reforms to ensure fiscal sustainability and economic stability in the medium and long term, while reinforcing trust in multilateral institutions through enhanced efficiency and inclusivity.
Aljadaan also took part in the High-Level Roundtable to operationalize the Riyadh Global Drought Resilience Partnership (RGDRP), stressing the urgent need to address the impact of drought, particularly in vulnerable regions like Africa and the Middle East.
'Drought is no longer a seasonal anomaly—it is a structural threat affecting 1.84 billion people globally, nearly 5% of whom face extreme conditions,' he said.
'Through the RGDRP, Saudi Arabia is reaffirming its Vision 2030 commitment to protect people, restore ecosystems, and foster shared prosperity.'
The IsDB Group's Annual Meetings serve as a platform for international leaders, policymakers, and development experts to collaborate on advancing sustainable development, sharing knowledge, and addressing global economic challenges.

The classification of existing work permits and technical system upgrades began on June 18 for expatriates currently working in the Saudi labor market. The classification would take effect for incoming expatriate workers as of July 1. The ministry has issued a guidance manual outlining all the details of the decision, which is available on its official website. This decision is part of the ministry's broader efforts to foster a more attractive and efficient labor market, develop human capital, and enhance the business environment, contributing to achieving the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Program. GCC – Japan negotiations make progress in sealing free trade agreement
Saudi Gazette report TOKYO — The second round of negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Japan wrapped up in the Japanese capital Tokyo on Friday. The negotiations took place from June 30 to July 4, have been instrumental in working out major provisions of a free trade agreement between the two sides in the near future. A government delegation led by the General Authority of Foreign Trade attended the negotiations. The discussions covered several topics, including goods, technical barriers, terms of services, financial and telecommunications services, movement of natural persons, intellectual property, dispute settlement, general provisions, rules of origin, and trade facilitation. During this round, proposed texts were reviewed by both the Gulf and Japanese sides, with a focus on exploring trade opportunities, fostering trust and partnership, and identifying areas of cooperation and coordination. These efforts pave the way toward reaching a comprehensive final agreement in the upcoming rounds. Deputy Governor of the General Authority for International Organizations and Agreements and Head of the Saudi Negotiating Team Farid Al-Asali said that the discussions addressed several topics of mutual importance. He expressed optimism about completing the remaining negotiation rounds and reaching an ambitious agreement that provides preferential access to goods and services. This, he said, would help increase the volume of trade between the two sides, reflect the depth of economic ties, reinforce investment cooperation, and support the Kingdom's Vision 2030. During a meeting with the Saudi Ambassador to Japan Dr. Ghazi Binzagr, Al-Asali emphasized that the free trade negotiations with Japan align with the Kingdom's commitment—alongside other GCC countries—to strengthening trade relations with Japan and advancing the goals of the Saudi-Japanese Vision 2030. The Saudi delegation, headed by the General Authority of Foreign Trade, includes representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Ministry of Investment, Ministry of Economy and Planning, Saudi Food and Drug Authority, Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, Saudi Export Development Authority, Communications, Space and Technology Commission, Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, and the Saudi Central Bank. The General Authority of Foreign Trade works to enhance the Kingdom's international trade gains, increase its international presence, and its effective participation in a number of international organizations, to ensure the achievement of common goals and sustainable development.
