Sakshi, Jaismine, Nupur clinch gold as India bags 11 medals at World Boxing Cup
Astana: Women boxers led India's march to glory as three of them — Sakshi (54kg), Jaismine (57kg) and Nupur (80+kg) — registered contrasting victories to bag gold medals as the Indian contingent clinched its best ever medal haul at the World Boxing Cup – Astana, Kazakhstan 2025 here on Sunday. Sakshi was at her attacking best against USA's Yosline Perez to get a unanimous verdict from the judges in the women's 54kg final while Jaismine kept her cool under pressure to get the better of Jucielen Cequeira Romeu of Brazil 4:1 in the women's 57kg weight category. Nupur then overcame the challenge of Kazakhstan boxer Yeldana Talipova to earn a 5:0 verdict in the 80+kg final. The Indian contingent finished with 11 medals, including three gold, five silver and three bronze medals. India had bagged six medals in the first leg in Brazil, including a gold and a silver. In the first session of the final day on Sunday, it was Sakshi who managed to stand atop of the podium with a stellar display that combined speed and combination punches and open India's gold medal account. In the evening session, Jaismine had to use her long reach to keep her Brazilian opponent at bay in the third and final round after there was not much to separate the two after the first two rounds. The tall 23-year-old stayed away from her opponent in the final round and landed punches on the counter attack to get the judges' nod. Nupur also struggled at the start against Talipova as the home boxer took the opening round. But the Indian boxer completely dominated the next two rounds, landing punches at will and out-thinking her opponent to have the last laugh. Earlier, Meenakshi pushed hard for victory against local favourite Nazym Kyzaibay in the 48kg final but ended on the wrong side of a 3:2 verdict. Jugnoo (men's 85kg), Pooja Rani (women's 80kg), Hitesh Gulia (men's 70kg) and Abhinash Jamwal (men's 65kg) will also return home with silver medals after losing their respective finals. Jugnoo lost 0:5 against Bekzad Nurdauletov of Kazakhstan while Pooja went down by an identical score line against Australia's Eseta Flint. In the evening session, Hitesh lost 0:5 against Brazil's Kaian Oliveira while Jamwal went down 2:3 against Yuri Falcao. Sanju (women's 60kg), Nikhil Dubey (men's 75kg) and Narender (men's 90+ kg) will return home with a bronze medal each.

Pant, Jamie achieve all-time batting record in England amongst wicketkeeper-batters
Birmingham [UK], July 6 (ANI): Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant and his English counterpart Jamie Smith made history, as they together secured the highest aggregate by wicketkeeper-batters during a Test series in England. The duo secured this record during the second Test at Birmingham. While Rishabh scored just 25 in the first innings, contributing very little to India's first innings total of 587 runs, Jamie scored an unbeaten 184* in 207 balls in England's first innings, consisting of 21 fours and four sixes as a part of a 303-run stand with Harry Brook following an early collapse which left England at 89/5. Brook and Jamie made sure England reached 407 runs, trailing by 180 runs still. Jamie attained the highest individual score by an England wicketkeeper-batter in Tests, overtaking Alec Stewart's 173 back in 1997 against New Zealand. In the second innings, Pant had an attacking 110-run fourth-wicket partnership with skipper Gill, scoring an entertaining 65 in 58 balls, with eight fours and three sixes. This knock had it all, be it bat slips, shots with him falling on the ground and some exhibition of brute strength. India declared at 427/6, extending their lead to 607 runs and setting 608 runs for England to win. During the run-chase, Smith proved to be the sole ray of hope for England, scoring 88 in 99 balls, with nine fours and four sixes. PBKS star Priyansh Arya speaks on debut IPL, second season of Delhi Premier League
By Vipul Kashyap New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): Punjab Kings (PBKS) uncapped Indian batter Priyansh Arya, who was brought for a massive Rs 10.6 crores by Outer Delhi Warriors for the second season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), hailed the competition as a great platform for youngsters to showcase their skills and opened up on his debut, breakout Indian Premier League (IPL) season with PBKS, who ended the tournament this year as runners-up to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Priyansh spoke to ANI amid the auctions for the second session of the competition. Speaking about his maiden DPL season last year with South Delhi Superstarz and the tournament as a whole, Priyansh told ANI, 'This has been a very good journey for me and it will be a very good journey for the youngsters who are coming this time because DPL is a platform where one can show their skills and the whole of India can see that because when it comes on TV, this is a very good platform.' Speaking on his team missing out on the IPL title this year after a six-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Arya said, 'Winners are winners. We could not do it this time, but would try to win it next year.' In 17 matches during his IPL debut, he scored 475 runs at an average of 27.94 with a strike rate of 179.24. He scored a century and two fifties and had the best score of 103. He was the third-highest run-getter for PBKS, and his partnership with Prabhsimran Singh, another uncapped Indian, broke several records and garnered acclaim. Arya, who came into the limelight in the DPL last year, was picked up by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs 3.8 crore in the mega auctions last year. Entering at Rs 30 lakh, he attracted bids from Delhi Capitals and RCB before being picked by PBKS. In the DPL season one, he smashed six sixes in an over during a match and scored 306 runs in 10 matches with two centuries and four fifties, striking at almost 199. Speaking about a potential Indian selection, Arya said that it is not in his hands, but rather in the selectors'. 'So I am concentrating on DPL season two,' he added. Arya had extremely positive memories of his first IPL season, saying that it gave him 'maturity'. 'By working with a coach like Ricky Ponting, captain Shreyas Iyer and senior batter Shashank Singh, my maturity level got higher,' he concluded. (ANI)
