"I didn't really have too much time to think. I think everything happened so quickly, being a hat-trick ball. I actually said to Brooky at the time, 'Is it a hat-trick ball?' I didn't even know he'd got out first ball," Smith told Sky Sports before day four's play.
Smith explained his batting approach during his impressive innings, highlighting the favorable batting conditions he had observed while keeping wickets.
Harry Brook press conference: On Yashasvi Jaiswal DRS controversy, India bowling, getting out on 99
"I knew it was a good wicket having stood behind the stumps for 150 overs and it was about putting India under pressure. In that situation you can prod and poke a bit and get bowled out for 200 but I didn't think that was the way to go about things."
"It was about putting my foot down and showing we can push back from any situation. You have those days, very few in a season, where everything seems to hit the middle of the bat. Your inside edges weren't going on to the stumps, your outside edges went into gaps.

Poll
Do you believe this Test match will have a lasting impact on Jamie Smith's career?
Yes, it will boost his confidence
No, it's just one game
It depends on future performances
Despite the strong partnership between Smith and Brook, India maintained control of the match, securing a 180-run lead before reaching 64/1 in 13 overs at stumps on day three, extending their lead to 244 runs.
Smith reflected on the unusual nature of the Test match and the playing conditions.
"It's been a strange Test, some big scores and some low scores. The majority of wickets have been taken by the new ball and then the pitch gets nice to bat on. India got a bit away from us last night but we were hunting for wickets – we don't want to let the game drift."

Florida Panthers make history with 2025 Stanley Cup engraving after back-to-back wins
Panthers' 2025 Stanley Cup engraving underway (Image via: Getty Images) The Stanley Cup is more than just a trophy, it's a symbol of hockey immortality. From the captain's lap to long-standing superstitions, its traditions run deep. But none are more meaningful than the Stanley Cup name engraving, the moment players become permanent parts of NHL history. In 2025, the Florida Panthers are about to live that moment for the second straight year. Florida Panthers await Stanley Cup engraving after consecutive wins After winning the 2024–25 Stanley Cup, the Florida Panthers are now preparing for the most sacred tradition in hockey, having their names engraved on the Stanley Cup. On June 29, NHL curator Philip Pritchard confirmed the Cup was en route to Montreal for engraving. 'Technology has changed, but the process for stamping the names on the #stanleycup remains the same. One of sports greatest traditions. Stay tuned for the 2025 @ soon,' he posted. This marks a historic moment for Florida fans, as the Panthers become one of the few teams to win the Cup in consecutive years. Despite access to modern technology like laser engraving, rotary tools, and CNC machines, the NHL continues to honor tradition by hand-engraving each name on the Stanley Cup. The process starts with dismantling the trophy and securing the correct band onto a steel jig. Using custom punches and weighted hammers, expert engravers carefully stamp each letter into the silver surface. Only four individuals have held this prestigious role. It began with the Petersen family and Fred Light Sr., followed by Doug Boffey. Today, Montreal's Louise St. Jacques continues this legacy, preserving one of the NHL's most cherished rituals. 2,603 Names and counting: Panthers to join NHL Legends Currently, 2,603 names are engraved on the Stanley Cup, a number soon to rise with the 2025 Florida Panthers. For players, it's more than recognition; it's legacy. With back-to-back championships, the Panthers are solidifying their place in NHL history. Fans are now eagerly awaiting the official reveal, which will forever connect this roster to hockey's greatest prize. 'Pathetic': Cowboys, Texans slammed over $1.5M Texas flood aid despite billion-dollar valuations
As floodwaters devasted Central Texas, fans say billionaire owners like Jerry Jones can't do enough (Image credits: X/IG/YouTube) As Texas mourns the devastating Hill Country floods that left 70 dead, including 21 children, attention has shifted to the response from the state's flagship football teams. The Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and the NFL Foundation pledged $1.5 million to help with relief and recovery efforts. But what was meant to be a gesture of solidarity is now fueling a backlash, with fans accusing the franchises of doing the bare minimum for maximum publicity. Fans blast 'tone-deaf' donation as outrage spreads online Outrage exploded across social media as fans called out the donation's small scale given the teams' financial weight. @7ixers posted, "First good thing Cowboys has done in decades." @VirtualSavage added, "Multibillion dollar teams, with billionaire owners, and they contribute 1.5M and then post about it for optics? Gross. Pathetic." The comments reflect growing sentiment that the teams prioritized image over impact during a time of statewide grief. NFL donation faces backlash (Image credit: X) The floods—triggered by the remnants of Tropical Storm Barry—struck in the early hours of July 5, hitting Camp Mystic, a girls' summer camp, especially hard. At least 21 children were among the confirmed fatalities, many of them asleep when the waters surged in. First responders continue recovery efforts using DNA identification methods as the death toll could rise further. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like [Click Here] 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software Esseps Learn More Undo Entire communities remain displaced, with urgent calls for better flood warning systems across Central Texas. Franchise owners Jerry Jones and Cal, Janice, and Hannah McNair jointly announced the $1.5M fund, promising it would support both immediate aid and long-term rebuilding. But critics argue the contribution is far too small given the Cowboys' $9 billion and Texans' $6 billion valuations. For fans, the numbers tell a different story than the PR narrative teams hoped to present. Also read: Justin Fields enters make-or-break 2025 season as Jets face NFL's ultimate QB test While community churches, local fundraisers, and nonprofits mobilize rapidly, fans expect more from franchises that market themselves as part of the Texas identity. The backlash is less about the donation itself and more about the perceived disconnect between wealth and will. For Texans watching their state suffer, this moment was a test of leadership and legacy. And many now feel that when it mattered most, their teams came up short—not in dollars, but in heart. Rather than skating and sticks of hockey sticks, Vincent adopted rods for fishing and an abundance of family time. The rare sight came in chilling views in a string of wholesome social media shares by his wife, Hillary, giving glimpses into the bald happiness of a father bonding with kids by a serene riverside. Zillow recently posted a string of her Instagram stories that showed much of her husband with the kids in an outdoor setting. One picture had Leo and Lennon beside a calm river, doing some fishing, fully engrossed in the moment. Leo's sporty jersey and Lennon's bright pink one provided a splash of color in the scenery, warmly welcoming the fans into their world. Another post portrayed a proud Leo, holding aloft a small fish and smiling from ear to ear under a cap with his name emblazoned on it. Trocheck was busy assisting the children nearby with their fishing rods, in all relaxed fatherly elegance, putting his second nature as an athlete far behind. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like local network access control Esseps Learn More Undo Another ending clip showed Lennon flashing a bright smile and showing a fishing worm to her mom for a comedic ending to an adventurous family day. Away from the water, Hillary Trocheck was seen extending support to yet another young man close to the family, Will Cuylle. Immediately after Cuylle was signed to a two-year, $7.8 million extension by the New York Rangers, Hillary reposted the announcement on her Instagram story with a heartfelt message referring to Cuylle as her "son." Cuylle's connection with the Trochecks began in his rookie year when he decided to live with them instead of renting his apartment. Trocheck had made the offer based on his early-career challenges, and Cuylle accepted, gaining a second family through home-cooked dinners, game nights, and rides to practice.
