New Jersey's Montclair Film Revives 103-Year-Old Bellevue Theatre
Built in 1922, the Tudor-style theater in Upper Montclair has been closed since 2017. When it reopens later this year, its three screens will feature a year-round selection of current releases and repertory titles.

The venue will also be a site for the Montclair Film Festival, which is put on each fall by Montclair Film. The organization also does year-round programming at The Claridge, a restored six-screen arthouse in Montclair. Cinema505, a microcinema, performance and event space, is also run by Montclair Film.
Located 20 miles west of New York, Montclair has been home to a number of people in the film industry and the media business. CBS late-night host Stephen Colbert and his wife, Evelyn, have championed the film festival as longtime residents of Montclair.
This year's festival is slated to run from October 17 to 26.
The Bellevue was designed by architect J.H. Phillips.
'We are so excited to be able to bring the movies back to The Bellevue Theatre,' said Evelyn Colbert, President of Montclair Film's Board of Trustees. 'Our community has been clear in sharing their desire to see The Bellevue Theatre thriving again, and we are counting on that passion and enthusiasm to help us re-establish The Bellevue as a destination for new memories and experiences. Without an audience, there is no cinema, and we look forward to this new opportunity to expand upon our mission to transform our community through the power of film.'
Montclair Film Artistic Director Tom Hall said operating the Bellevue Theatre will 'allow us to expand and diversify our programs, delivering more opportunity for filmmakers and distributors to share their films, and offering us tremendous new flexibility to grow the impact of cinema in our community.'

Colbert shared the show's live audience during the taping of Thursday's show at the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York, drawing boos from the audience. He said he'd been told about the decision the night before. In a statement, CBS said the cancellation was 'purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.' Last Week Tonight, meanwhile, is on hiatus until July 27. Oliver was talking to reporters in Erie, Pa. — home of the newly rebranded minor league baseball team, the Moon Mammoths. The team formerly known as the Erie SeaWolves will play four games under the new moniker, but it's unclear if the name will be permanent. 'This is entirely for the people of Erie and this team to decide now,' Oliver said, according to 'If they want to go back to the SeaWolves, this has been fun. If they want to keep the Moon Mammoths forever, have it.' Erie Mayor Joe Schember declared the day as Moon Mammoth Day and presented Oliver with a key to the city. The new name is inspired by George Moon's discovery of a mammoth skeleton in Lake Pleasant in 1991. Saturday night's game drew a record crowd of 7,070 at UPMC Park. Here's what I'm thinking after processing all the new footage (which I've shared again, for convenience). - This final fight's going to be bigger than ever. With the military presence on site and all those scenes of our gang tooled up and ready for battle, this next season feels way more dangerous. - Max's fate hangs in the balance - Max has already been through the wringer in "Stranger Things" so far, and it looks like that's not about to change. Her last encounter with Vecna left her with broken bones, blinded, and in a coma, and now Lucas is trying to smuggle her out of a facility while being pursued by Demodogs in a scene that screams that "Jurassic Park" scene to me. Can they bring her back? - Vecna looks more powerful than ever... but so does Eleven. Sure, Jamie Campbell Bower's big bad looks even more menacing in the trailer's final moments, but Eleven's gotten stronger, too: she can even fly now. This power creep has me hyped for the final face-off, for sure. And finally, a prediction: with all these shocked and panicked faces and all the danger on display, I'm expecting tragedy to strike and potentially to lose more than one of our major party members. And with that, we can look forward to the show's release (and maybe more info!) later this year. It looks like one hell of a send-off. 'Stranger Things' isn't technically over after season 5 Even though season 5 signals the end of 'Stranger Things' as we know it, we're not entirely leaving Hawkins, Indiana behind. How? Well, as Tudum puts it, 'Saturday morning cartoons are getting turned Upside Down.' Yes, we're getting a 'Stranger Things' animated series at Netflix, and the title was revealed back in April 2025: 'Stranger Things: Tales From '85.' We've always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling," the Duffer Brothers told Tudum. When is 'Stranger Things' season 5 premiering? Mark your calendars: This holiday season, Netflix is serving Demogorgons with the turkey. 'Stranger Things 5' is dropping in three parts, all on or close to big holidays later this year. Volume 1 arrives November 26 (the day before Thanksgiving) with four episodes. Fox News host Howard Kurtz isn't buying that CBS axed Stephen Colbert solely for financial reasons. Kurtz called out CBS' parent company Paramount on Media Buzz Sunday, accusing it of cancelling The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in order to gain President Donald Trump's approval. 'This is about Shari Redstone, who needs Trump administration approval to have this sale to Skydance go through and make a lot of money, in my view, really tarnishing the network of Murrow and Cronkite,' Kurtz told guest Brian Steinberg, who is a senior TV editor at Variety.
