I'm a famous ex-Celtic star - golf hero left me 'starstruck'
However, the 65-year-old was caught off guard last week when he bumped into golfing legend, Gary Player.
Posting on social media, Macca shared a pic of himself posing for a photo with the 89-year-old at Trump Turnberry, Ayrshire.
Player is regarded as one of the greatest golfers to ever live.
He is one of just six golfers to achieve the grand slam - winning all four of the sport's major titles.
He won two of his three Open Championships in Scotland, prevailing at Muirfield in 1959 and at Carnoustie in 1968.
The South African won 165 professional tournaments during his seven decades as a fierce competitor.
McAvennie posted the image on Instagram and admitted he was stunned by the sight of Player.
He captioned the post: "One of the true legends of golf, Gary Player, down Trump Turnberry Scotland just before teeing off.
"Don't get starstruck often, but this guy is a different level and a proper gentleman."

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THERE are plenty of new faces at Rangers' training ground this summer amid major changes at the club. But there's also been a surprise appearance from an iconic footballing figure at the Ibrox club's Milngavie base. 2 Legendary footie boss Sir Alex Ferguson Credit: Getty 2 Sir Alex has been at the Rangers training ground Credit: INSTAGRAM/@NICDOC11 Russell Martin's Rangers squad have been back in pre-season training for almost a month and they're just a week away from the real stuff getting started. The Light Blues face Panathinaikos in a crunch Champions League qualifier at Ibrox next Tuesday. New boss Martin has seven new players at his disposal, with winger Djeidi Gassama the latest new recruit. There's been plenty of change on the women's team too with boss Jo Potter leaving her role. They've also bid farewell to key players including Kirsty Maclean, Chelsea Cornet, Tessel Middag and Jane Ross. There has, of course, also been the US takeover of the club. But amid all of that change, a VERY familiar face has been spotted at the training centre. None other than Sir Alex Ferguson. The footie great, 83, of course had a two-year spell as a Rangers player - his boyhood club - between 1967 and 1969. Sir Alex is of course much more famous for a glittering managerial career, in which he led Aberdeen to league title and European glory before going on to become the greatest Manchester United boss ever. Rangers boss Russell Martin opens up on transfer plans as he delivers updates on Dessers and Igamane Govan-born Fergie has made the odd trip back to Ibrox in recent years. In fact, he was a guest of honour just last month when he was given the honour of a tour at the Rangers Museum. During his walk around the New Edmiston House shrine, Sir Alex spotted a letter he'd written to Dick Advocaat after the Gers' treble triumph back in 1999. Just a few weeks on, Sir Alex has been back at Rangers AGAIN. Rangers Women captain Nicola Docherty shared a picture of herself alongside the legendary boss in the training centre. Buzzing Docherty posted the snap to her Instagram stories and said: "Met a legend today, Sir Alex!" She also added: "His greatest quote - 'there was no way I could contemplate taking the England job. Can you imagine me doing that? A Scotsman? 'I always joked that I would take the position and relegate them: make them 150th rated country in the world, with Scotland 149'." Ferguson revealed in his autobiography that he HAD been offered the chance to become England manager during his career. Exactly what he was doing at the Rangers training centre remains to be seen. Prince Harry visits Angola 28 years after Diana's landmine walk
The Duke of Sussex has arrived in Angola, 28 years after his mother's walk through a minefield in the country galvanised global action against the use of landmines. Prince Harry was due to meet President Lourenco of Angola, after landing at Luanda airport on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he is expected to visit areas where work is being carried out by the Halo Trust, the same landmine clearance charity visited by Diana, Princess of Wales. Harry, who has been patron of the charity since 2019, is expected to use the visit to highlight his mother's legacy. The Duchess of Sussex has not joined her husband on the trip. A source told The Daily Mail: 'The duke won't let his wife go to England over security concerns, so there was no chance he'd allow her to go to Angola to walk across landmines.' Diana travelled to Huambo in Angola in January 1997 and was seen walking through a minefield in body armour and a visor. In 2019, Harry recreated the walk at the age of 35, the same age his mother was when she visited Huambo. He said at the time: 'It has been an honour to retrace my mother's steps today. I lost her 22 years ago, but the memory of her is with me daily and her legacy lives on.' Harry added: 'Landmines are an unhealed scar of war. By clearing the landmines we can help this community find peace, and with peace comes opportunity.' Shortly afterwards Harry and Meghan posted a message on their official Instagram account in honour of the late princess, saying that her work had 'helped change the course of history'. • A secret meeting, a photo, next a reunion for King Charles and Harry? When Diana first drew global attention to the issue of landmines, it was a largely neglected cause. Huambo was one of the bloodiest battlegrounds of Angola's 27-year civil war that killed hundreds of thousands of people. The devastation continued after the ceasefire, thanks to landmines left over from the conflict. Diana's visit drew criticism. Earl Howe, a junior defence minister, accused the princess of being 'ill informed' and 'a loose cannon that Her Majesty's government did not need'. However, the visit was to have profound effects. In December that year — just over three months after Diana's death in a car crash — 122 countries signed the Ottawa Convention banning antipersonnel mines. An orthopaedic hospital in Angola has been named in her honour.

Model Julia Restoin Roitfeld reveals she fought off three masked muggers near her north London home as she falls victim after Bridgerton star defended herself during assault
Julia Restoin Roitfeld has revealed she fought off three masked men who attempted to mug her while walking near her north London home. The model and fashion entrepreneur, 44, shared details of the terrifying incident in an Instagram post last week after managing escape the situation safely. The daughter of former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief's scary ordeal comes after Bridgerton actress Genevieve Chenneour had to defend herself during an attack. Speaking on her own experience, Julia said: 'I almost got mugged by three guys in masks, hoodies and balaclavas on bikes coming at me full speed and circling at me. 'Not sure how I got it in me to yell at the top of my lungs but f***, London get your s**t together.' Julia, who has fronted campaigns for Tom Ford and Lancome, lives in the capital with her partner - northern Irish musician Tim Wheeler, 48, and her two children. She has a daughter Romy, 13, from her previous relationship with Swedish model Robert Konjic, and a three-year-old son, George, whom she shares with Tim. Tagging the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and Islington council in her post, she added: 'In 16 years in New York I was never afraid to walk back home at night. It's exhausting to have to be alert non-stop and terrified for my daughter and all the girls and kids out there.' Her comments follow growing concerns about safety on the streets of London - particularly for women and children - as street robberies and attacks involving mopeds and bikes have become increasingly common in several areas of the capital. The Paris-born model moved to London several years ago, soon making a splash by dating ex-footballer Jamie Redknapp following the collapse of his marriage to singer Louise. The following year she met Tim in what she has called the 'best Instagram move ever'. She followed him on the platform as a fan, and to her surprise, he followed her back. The pair began messaging and eventually met in person before striking up a lasting romance. Muggings remain significantly above the UK average across north London. In the year between May 2024 and 2025 there were 3,700 reported robberies. Last month, Genevieve, 27, admitted she 'doesn't feel safe' in the capital anymore after being targeted by thief Zacariah Boulares, 18, at a Joe & The Juice while she was walking her dog on February 8. The prolific teenage criminal was jailed for just 22 months despite embarking on a 'ruthless' spree of thefts. Boulares was scolded by the judge as he put his middle finger up at members of the public gallery before being taken down to the police cells at Isleworth Crown Court. MailOnline previously revealed CCTV of the moment Ms Chenneour bravely fought back against the thief and dragged him to the floor with the help of her boyfriend at the time, Carlo Kureishi, 30, the son of the writer Hanif Kureishi. Ms Chenneour, who before acting was on Team GB 's synchronised swimming team and later became a trained boxer, revealed how she thought she was going to die after the thug threatened to stab her. And the actress explained to LBC that she has moved out of London following the distressing incident. She said: 'The level of anxiety putting myself even in a public space now is pretty awful. I've left London. 'I don't feel comfortable living in London at the moment. Had this happened two years earlier, when I was just getting my career going, this could have been the end of my career, because you have to be in town for meetings and available all the time. 'There was a new study, wasn't that women feel extremely unsafe on the streets. And I was quite shocked to see that it said most women, almost every woman that I've met, feels on edge in London walking around.' Ms Chenneour added that she has recently been experiencing terrifying lucid dreams, featuring someone attempting to steal something from her, which result in her waking up, palms sweating. She revealed her plans to see a trauma therapist but explained she has a job on her hands stopping her dog from biting everyone who touches her. The actress expressed concerns over the length of Boulares's prison stay following the theft on Kensington High Street, admitting she worries what will happen when he is realeased. Around 18 months earlier, Boulares had targeted another celebrity victim when he threatened to behead Aled Jones with a 20in machete as he stole his £17,000 Rolex Daytona in Chiswick, west London. The thief, then 16, was locked up for his attack on the Welsh singer in October 2023 but only served 14 months of his 24-month sentence before being released back onto the streets. Boulares, who was named and pictured after turning 18 in February, has continued to wreak havoc on Londoners, including robbing rising star Ms Chenneour, who plays rumour-monger Clara Livingston in hit Netflix period drama Bridgerton. Isleworth Crown Court heard how detectives were able to catch Boulares after arresting him - on his 18th birthday - for stealing a backpack from a blind couple who were dining at a Five Guys in Kensington with their 10-year-old son on February 18. Police were then able to identify him as the perpetrator for the theft of Ms Chenneour on February 8 and stealing a handbag at a Pizza Pilgrims restaurant in London's West End on January 30. Stern-faced Boulares sat with his arms crossed as he appeared in the dock with a long black ponytail and grey prison tracksuit on, where he was jailed for the three thefts across London and the common assault of Mr Kureishi. He was sentenced to five months for the Pizza Pilgrims theft, seven months for the Joe & The Juice theft, four months for the common assault and six months for the Five Guys theft.
