Konami Press Start Event To Highlight Metal Gear Solid Delta and Silent Hill f This Week
As the sun sets on Summer Game Fest 2025 presentations, Konami looks forward to the future with the Konami Press Start Event. After virtually no news has been made regarding upcoming Konami games at the SGF 2025 showcase, the Xbox Games Showcase and PlayStation State of Play 2025, Konami has announced their press event and it's happening this week. The Press Start showcase will begin on Thursday, June 12, at 9:00 a.m. ET, where it will highlight about 37 minutes of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Silent Hill f, and more.
The official Konami YouTube account has already released the video placeholder for the upcoming showcase, and in traditional Konami fashion, they announced that they will be covering Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Silent Hill f and teased the idea of a potential surprise announcement with 'and MORE' on the video description. The team behind Silent Hill f has notably remained silent since the March 2025 reveal, which showcased the title's new Japanese location, Ryukishi07's involvement and the return of Akira Yamaoka as composer.
The official Konami Press Start event video is above and will start in 46 hours as of this post, but fans can also head over to the official Konami YouTube channel on Thursday, June 12 at 9:00 a.m. EST to catch it live. With the surprise announcement of Final Fantasy XVI heading to Xbox this week, it's possible Konami could be seeking to release Silent Hill 2 Remake on Xbox as well. In two days, fans will have their answers from the Press Start event so while it is fun to speculate, fans should wait until the event concludes to draw conclusions.

Xbox was funding Romero Games' new game, but layoffs have left the project in crisis
Microsoft was rocked by more than 9,000 job cuts this week. A significant number have come from its gaming division, resulting in the closure of multiple game studios and the cancellation of numerous in-development projects at Xbox and its contracted studios. We've already learned that Microsoft has closed the studio that was developing the much-anticipated Perfect Dark reboot, and Rare's Everwild has also been sunsetted. And now Romero Games — the studio headed up by Doom creator and veteran developer John Romero — is another major casualty of the sweeping cuts. The news was initially confirmed in a statement signed by Brenda Romero and posted on X. 'Last night, we learned that our publisher has canceled funding for our game along with several other unannounced projects at other studios,' it said. "This was a strategic decision made at a high level within the publisher, well above our visibility or control." It went on to say that the studio was powerless to change the outcome, and that the decision was not reflective of the quality of work its team has produced. Ireland-based Romero Games is not owned by Microsoft, but it appears the company's financial support was crucial to keeping the studio alive — a fact that wasn't publicly known until the shutdown occurred. IGN is now reporting that the entire Romero Games workforce has been let go, and many Romero Games employees confirm on Linkedin that they no longer have jobs. According to the company website, Romero Games was founded by John and Brenda Romero in 2014, and had more than 100 developers on its staff. Its most recent release was 2023's Sigil II , the unofficial sixth episode in the Doom series, which John Romero co-created in 1993 with id Software, the studio he also co-founded. The upcoming game was described by Romero Games as an "all-new FPS with an original, new IP working with a major publisher."

Original Doom Designer's New FPS Is The Latest Casualty Of The Xbox Cuts
Back in 2022, John Romero of Doom fame announced he was working on a new first-person shooter IP in Unreal Engine 5 for a 'major publisher.' Three years later the studio says it's canceled and employees claim the latest wave of massive cuts at Xbox are to blame, with one designer calling news, '[a] massive, sudden & unexpected hit on a Project that was innovative, going strong and most importantly fun.' Romero Games studio director Brenda Romero wrote in a statement that the team found out Wednesday night about the loss of funding, blaming a 'strategic decision made at a high level.' She said the team is currently 'evaluating next steps' as it tries to take care of staff, some of whom have worked together for over 20 years. While Xbox was not mentioned by name, some employees took to social media to say they'd been laid off as part of the ongoing cuts which have led to layoffs across Microsoft's gaming division, including the cancelation of Everwild, Perfect Dark, and several unannounced projects. 'These people are the best people I've ever worked with, and I'm sorry to say that our game and our studio were also affected,' John Romero wrote on X. Lead level designer on the untitled FPS, Sebastian Bica, wrote on LinkedIn, 'It's a massive, sudden & unexpected hit on a Project that was innovative, going strong and most importantly fun. The past 2+ years have been amazing, working with everybody on it was an absolute blast and I will forever keep close all of the moments and memories we've shared! It's all a shame we won't be able to see it through!' It's unclear if Romero Games will survive the cancelation. It was previously best known for the strategy RPG Empire of Sin and unofficial new Doom episodes Sigil 1 and 2. . For the latest news, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
