Indian Coast Guard rescues three Sri Lankans near Tamil Nadu's Dhanushkodi

Indian Coast Guard
(ICG) successfully rescued three Sri Lankan nationals who had been abandoned on a sandbar near Adam's Bridge, off the coast of Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu, officials said on Saturday.
According to the
Coastal Security Group Police
, the trio had set off from Sri Lanka in an unidentified boat, which dropped them off on the sandbar located in Indian waters.
"Three Sri Lankans who had set off from Sri Lanka to Dhanushkodi (Tamil Nadu) in an unidentified boat were dropped off at a sandbar by Adam's Bridge near Dhanushkodi. The Indian Coast Guard rescued them, brought them to Dhanushkodi and handed them over to the Coastal Security Group Police. An investigation is underway," said the Coastal Security Group Police in a statement.

Earlier, on Thursday, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) marked a significant milestone in maritime security and indigenous shipbuilding with the induction of Yard 1271 'Adamya', the first Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) under the prestigious 08 FPV Project, at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), as per a release.

Designed and built entirely by GSL, 'Adamya' exemplifies India's growing shipbuilding capability and represents a major stride towards the nation's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
With over 60 per cent indigenous content, the vessel underscores the success of the 'Make in India' initiative in the defence sector.'Adamya' is the first ship in its class within the ICG fleet to feature Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPPs) and indigenously developed gearboxes, offering superior maneuverability, operational flexibility, and enhanced performance at sea.
The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a 30mm CRN-91 gun, two 12.7mm stabilised remote-control guns with fire control systems, an Integrated Bridge System (IBS), an Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS), and an Automated Power Management System (APMS).
These advanced systems will empower the Indian Coast Guard to perform its charter duties with increased precision, efficiency, and responsiveness across India's extensive maritime domain.
Fast Patrol Vessels, such as 'Adamya', will act as force multipliers in the ICG's operational fleet, enabling swift responses for maritime law enforcement, coastal surveillance, search and rescue operations, and the protection of India's
Exclusive Economic Zone
(EEZ).
The induction of 'Adamya' not only strengthens India's coastal security architecture but also underscores the nation's growing maritime capabilities and technological prowess.

She said that when she requested her money back, the accused refused to provide her any. The fraud came to light only on Feb 10, 2025, after Thumba native Thomas Gabriel Pereira, 47, was shot dead by Jordanian soldiers while attempting to sneak into Israel through the Jordan border. His brother-in-law, Edison, 44, was also injured in the leg in the firing. Edison was later deported back to India by Jordan, and it was he who informed the relatives about Thomas's death. Poonthura natives Jincy, 32, her husband Norman, 35, Ajeesh, 28, Judit, 29, and Binu, 22, were also reportedly cheated by the same accused. All of them had to leave Jordan after failing to get Israeli work visas.

Ghaziabad woman files complaint against RCB pacer Yash Dayal alleging exploitation on pretext of marriage
Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 28 (ANI): Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Indian pacer, Yash Dayal, has been accused of exploitation on the pretext of marriage by a woman from Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad. The woman has lodged a complaint through the Chief Minister's online grievance portal, IGRS. In her complaint, the woman alleged that she had been in a relationship with the cricketer for the past five years, during which she was emotionally, mentally, and physically exploited. 'For the last five years, the complainant was in a relationship with a cricketer. The man emotionally, mentally and physically exploited her by misleading her with the promise of marriage. He introduced the complainant to his family as their daughter-in-law, which made her trust him completely,' the complaint stated. The woman further alleged that when she confronted Dayal about the alleged deception, she was subjected to physical violence and mental harassment. 'During the relationship, the complainant was made emotionally and financially dependent on him. Later, she found that the man was involved in similar relationships with other women as well,' the complaint said. She claimed to have reached out to the women's helpline number 181 on June 14, 2025, but said that the matter did not progress at the police station level. Owing to financial and social helplessness, she turned to the Chief Minister's office seeking justice. 'She has chats, screenshots, video calls, and photos etc as evidence,' it added. 'The request is to investigate this matter promptly and impartially, and to take legal action against the accused. This step is important not only for her, but also for all girls who fall victim to such relationships,' it concluded. Notably, Yash Dayal was part of RCB's historic IPL 2025 title win earlier this month, taking 13 wickets in 15 matches. He has represented Uttar Pradesh in all domestic formats and is yet to make his India debut. (ANI)

Mizoram May Seize IDs Of Refugees Who Often Cross Border To And From Myanmar
Aizawl: The Mizoram government is considering confiscating the identity cards of Myanmar refugees who repeatedly cross the international border to and from the neighbouring country, an official said on Friday. During a meeting with Ministry of External Affairs Joint Secretary Surinder Bhagat in Aizawl on Thursday, Chief Minister Lalduhoma told him that there are many refugees, who are obedient and follow the laws, while some of them are "repeatedly crossing the border to go to Myanmar and come back to Mizoram taking advantage of the crisis in the neighbouring country". The chief minister said that these refugees often violate the country's laws, and the state government would take stringent action against them, according to the official. "The Mizoram government will take stern action against those refugees who misbehave and often violate the laws. We have been thinking of seizing Myanmar IDs from those refugees, who repeatedly cross the international border during their stay in Mizoram," the official quoted Lalduhoma as saying. The chief minister also briefed Bhagat about the state government's plan to collect biometric details of Myanmar refugees taking shelter in Mizoram. The state government is likely to begin biometric enrolment of Myanmar refugees in July, another official said. Lalduhoma had also informed Bhagat, who is also the Protector General of Emigrants, about the issue of "illegal overseas recruitment by some placement agencies in the state". He had said that the licences of such agencies have been cancelled by the state government for illegally sending youths for overseas employment. Lalduhoma had also stressed the need for obtaining prosecution sanction orders from the Protector General of Emigrants (PGE) against those fraudulent placement agencies. PGE under the Ministry of External Affairs is the authority responsible for protecting the interests of Indian workers going abroad. Bhagat urged people to exercise caution while seeking jobs abroad.
