Phillies' Bryce Harper Reinstated After Injured List Stint With Sore Wrist

Fox Sports21 hours ago
Phillies slugger Bryce Harper was reinstated Monday ahead of Philadelphia's opener against San Diego after a stint on the injured list with right wrist inflammation.
Harper went on the 10-day injured list on June 6.
The two-time National League MVP and eight-time MLB All-Star is hitting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 57 games. He also missed five games, from May 26 to June 2, with a bruised right elbow after being hit by a pitch from Atlanta's Spencer Strider.
Harper said when he went on the IL that he felt pain in the wrist during a large portion of last season, when he hit 30 homers while helping the Phillies win the NL East.
The Phillies entered Monday's game in first place in the division. They are 13-14 overall this season without Harper in the lineup.
To make room on the 26-man roster, infielder Buddy Kennedy was designated for assignment.

Brock Boeser and Nikolaj Ehlers headline the remaining NHL free agents to watch

Mitch Marner, Brad Marchand and Aaron Ekblad are off the board, leaving slim pickings in NHL free agency. This is not one of the deepest free agent classes in recent history. Still, with the salary cap going up a record $7.5 million to $95.5 million, teams are going to be spending a lot of money. Here's a look at the players to watch when the market opens: Brock Boeser Six-time 20-goal scorers do not hit free agency before age 30 very often, and Boeser had 40 goals as recently as 2023-24. He is Marner's age and he had 25 goals and 25 assists last season, so everyone from Winnipeg to Washington will be in on Boeser. The Minnesota native so far has spent his whole career with Vancouver, and the Canucks seem to be sliding into a rebuild. That gives Boeser the opportunity to get a welcome change of scenery, potentially with a contender. Nikolaj Ehlers Ehlers could be a big beneficiary of so many moves happening in late June, making him along with Boeser one of the top wingers still available. He was nearly a point-a-game producer with 63 in 69 in his 10th season with the Winnipeg Jets. The 29-year-old Dane was making $6 million annually on his last contract, and the cap going up combined with high demand and low supply could get Ehlers a nice raise. Brent Burns One of the oldest players in the league at 40, Burns is still chasing the Stanley Cup and can bring experience and more to a contender. The 6-foot-5, nearly 230-pound defenseman no longer skates top-pairing minutes, but he averaged nearly 23 a game during Carolina's run to the East final. Fellow soon-to-be former Hurricanes teammate Dmitry Orlov also will garner interest. Orlov had a rough series against Florida but is still capable and has a Stanley Cup ring from his time with the Capitals. Nate Schmidt The two-time defending champion Panthers re-signed Marchand, Ekblad and playoff MVP Sam Bennett, and that was a magic act in itself. There's not much room left for someone like Schmidt, who revitalized his career with Florida. A year since getting bought out by Winnipeg, Schmidt could cash in on once more on the verge of turning 34. Ilya Samsonov The goaltending market is remarkably thin, with fewer than a dozen unrestricted free agents around who played in the league last season. Most are backups or, at best, 1-B options, including Jake Allen and David Rittich. Samsonov is the most intriguing option. He's only 28, has starting experience and the right goalie coach and locker room could be enough to get his career back on track following consecutive sub-.900 save percentage seasons, one with Toronto and most recently with Vegas.

Giancarlo Stanton Concerns Mount After Latest Yankees Loss

Giancarlo Stanton Concerns Mount After Latest Yankees Loss originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It might be time to start worrying about New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton yet again. Advertisement Thankfully for the Yankees, the latest concerns have nothing to do with his health ... we think. As far as we know, Stanton feels well enough following his bout with tennis elbow in both arms to play most days. Instead, the issue is with Stanton's lack of power. The five-time All-Star has no home runs and only a single double in his first 42 plate appearances. Stanton's .270 slugging percentage is easily a career-low, though he's at least reaching base at a .333 clip. In fairness, no one should have expected Stanton to leave the injured list and suddenly resemble Aaron Judge or Shohei Ohtani. He's a 35-year-old injury-prone slugger who missed nearly three months with arm injuries. New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo StantonWendell Cruz-Imagn Images That doesn't mean the Yankees shouldn't start sweating. Perhaps the only positive about Stanton's presence, given his age and the fact that he no longer plays the field, is his power stroke. Advertisement Remember, Stanton mashed like his old self last October, blasting seven home runs with a 1.048 OPS in 62 postseason plate appearances. He also homered in 5.9% of his regular-season at-bats, trailing only Aaron Judge among full-time starters. This year? Not even close—literally. We'll see if Stanton starts July with some home runs, especially as the Yankees look to leave their June swoon behind them. The 48-36 Yankees hold a 1 1/2-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays following Monday's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. Paige Bueckers Had One Word After Dallas Wings Trade

Paige Bueckers Had One Word After Dallas Wings Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Dallas Wings pulled off a big trade Monday, sending former No. 2 overall pick NaLyssa Smith to the Las Vegas Aces for a 2027 first-round draft pick. Advertisement Smith started 15 games for the Wings, averaging 6.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game during the team's 5-13 start to the 2025 season. Dallas acquired Smith from the Indiana Fever in the offseason and then signed her girlfriend, DiJonai Carrington, who was heartbroken to learn about the trade. When the unexpected move was announced, 2025 WNBA All-Star starter Paige Bueckers was out doing some team bonding with several Wings teammates on their off day. Wings veteran Ogunbowale was joined by rookies Bueckers, Maddy Siegrist, Tyasha Harris and JJ Quinerly. Centers Teaira McCowan and Li Yueru were also there, while neither Carrington nor Smith was in the photo. Bueckers, who recently updated her profile to represent the Wings instead of UConn, reposted the photo on her Instagram story. Paige Bueckers (center) poses at Six Flags Over Texas with her Dallas Wings Bueckers was the only rookie named as a WNBA All-Star starter this season. She finished No. 1 among all WNBA guards in weighted voting, ahead of All-Star captain Caitlin Clark, who earned the most fan votes. The Wings' next game is on Thursday against the Phoenix Mercury at 8 p.m. ET. They will host Smith and the Aces on July 16 in their final game before the All-Star break.
