Connections looking to to see the real Falakeyah next time out
Connections of Falakeyah are keen to put a line through her disappointing performance at Royal Ascot, with Goodwood's Nassau Stakes identified as a potential stage for redemption.
Having bolted up on her Wolverhampton debut in November, the Owen Burrows-trained filly looked every inch a top-class performer in the making when running away with Newmarket's Pretty Polly Stakes on her return to action in the spring.
After sidestepping the Oaks at Epsom and being ruled out of the French equivalent, Falakeyah dropped back to a mile for the Coronation Stakes, but ended up racing too enthusiastically for her own good on the front end before weakening in the home straight.
Angus Gold, racing manager for owners Shadwell, said: 'It was a pity, as I was very pleased with her before the race. She settled beforehand, I thought, she was good and calm in the ring and Jim (Crowley) said she went down brilliantly relaxed.
'I've only seen the replay once, but it looked to me like for the first 50 or 60 yards of the race she was OK and then when Hollie (Doyle, riding Duty First) came upsides her she just put her head in the air and took off basically. It just set her alight and that was it.
'On a hot day like that, she was never going to be able to keep going at that pace, so we'll just give her a bit of time. We didn't learn anything regarding distance or anything like that, all we learnt was she's not going to win races if she races like that.'
He added: 'We know she's considerably better than that, her work at home is very high class and that run didn't bare any resemblance to her work at home. We'll obviously have to try to settle her next time and maybe we'll have a look at something like the Nassau. We'll just see how everyone feels nearer the time.
'At home she settles beautifully and is quite happy to take a lead and doesn't fight the jockey, so we've just got to get her to do that on the racecourse if she's going to have any chance of finishing off her races.'

Pogba's emotional response as ex-Man Utd star signs for first club in two years
Paul Pogba has officially joined Monaco, marking his return to football following an 18-month suspension which began in September 2023 and resulted in him becoming a free agent Former Manchester United star Paul Pogba broke down in tears after signing a contract with Monaco, ending his two-year absence from football. Pogba, 32, last played a competitive match for Juventus in September 2023, the start date of an 18-month ban for a doping offence which the Court of Arbitration for Sport accepted was 'not intentional'. The midfielder was initially given a four-year suspension which was later reduced upon appeal, allowing him to return to football in March of this year. Last November, Juventus and Pogba mutually agreed to terminate his contract which ran until 2026. After eight months without a club, the Frenchman has finally found a new employer after being linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer. Pogba has joined Monaco on a two-year deal and is set to wear the No.8 shirt. The 32-year-old will play in Ligue 1 for the first time in his career, having come through the ranks at United before moving to Juventus in 2012. Pogba returned to Old Trafford for £89million four years later before making the same move back to Turin. Monaco marks a fresh start for the 91-time France international, who hopes to represent his country at the World Cup next summer. Announcing his arrival on Saturday, Monaco released a video of Pogba visibly overcome with emotion as he signed the paperwork. A tear dropped down on the contract, as Pogba wiped his eyes and thanked those involved in the transfer for their 'trust'. In the replies section, United legend Rio Ferdinand posted: "Real," with a red heart emoji. Man Utd dressing room make feelings clear on £62.5m Bryan Mbeumo transfer
Manchester United are still thrashing out a deal with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo and hope to have him involved on their pre-season tour, a move which delight two potential future team-mates Two Manchester United players have given their seal of approval to the signing of Bryan Mbeumo, as the Red Devils continue to thrash out a deal with Brentford. United have already had two bids rejected for Mbeumo, the most recent of which totalled £62.5million. Ruben Amorim's side were prepared to pay Brentford a guaranteed £55m plus £7.5m in potential add-ons for the winger, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season. United side had already seen an offer of £45m plus up to £10m in add-ons turned down earlier this month. It's been reported that Brentford would want at least £62.5m up front before approving his sale. That's the same fee amount which United paid to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves at the start of window, triggering his release clause. Mbeumo, 25, also has interest from Tottenham but he only wants to join United. The Red Devils are hopeful that a deal can be agreed in time for the Cameroon international to link up with Amorim's squad at the beginning of pre-season. United will embark on a tour of the USA this summer and want Mbeumo to be involved so that he can acclimatise himself to his new team-mates. Two members of the Red Devils' dressing room will seemingly be more than happy to welcome him. On Instagram, both Cunha and Joshua Zirkzee liked a post from journliast Fabrizio Romano which said that United will continue talks over signing Mbeumo. Cunha and Zirkzee could be the men playing alongside the 25-year-old in Amorim's front three next season. But there's still a way to go yet, with Mbeumo still firmly a Brentford player and due back there for pre-season training. The French-born star has 12 months left on his contract, although the Bees can exercise an option to extend it by a further year. Mbeumo's prolific form last term piqued the interest of Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham but his heart is set on a move to Old Trafford. Tottenham recently appointed Brentford boss Thomas Frank as their new manager and it was hoped that his connection to Mbeumo would help persuade him to snub United. Ironically, Frank talked up Mbeumo's price tag at the end of the season. Before joining Tottenham, he was quoted as telling Tipsbladet: "It is clear that if he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount. It is a lot. Mucho. Really a lot. Then it is clear that it is impossible to replace him one for one. It cannot be done. "There is a reason why he costs X number of million pounds, and we do not have X number of million pounds to buy for. I would say that I would be surprised if a lot of big clubs don't look at him. I would be surprised with what he has to offer. "How many wingers score 20 goals for a mid-table club? And then with seven assists plus his work ethic. And his character.
