Alcohol trial at women's matches to be expanded to up to 14 clubs next season
The sale of alcohol in sight of the pitch is illegal in men's football, but the legislation does not cover the women's game.
The new clubs joining the trial are Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, London City Lionesses, Manchester City and Manchester United from the Women's Super League, plus Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and Sunderland in the second-tier Women's Super League 2.
Chelsea, London City Lionesses and Newcastle's involvement is still subject to approval from their local safety advisory groups.
The aim of expanding the trial is to test at larger scale across a full season, covering a broader range of crowd and stadium sizes.
Some of the country's biggest football stadia, including Old Trafford, the Emirates Stadium, the Etihad Stadium, Goodison Park and Stamford Bridge, could potentially be involved.
Many of the venues are set to offer the opportunity for tickets to be purchased in designated alcohol-free areas, WSL Football said.
Holly Murdoch, the chief operating officer of WSL Football, said: 'Expanding this trial for the new campaign, encompassing our Barclays WSL teams and additional Barclays WSL2 clubs too, is part of our strategy to offer a best-in-class experience for our fans attending matches.
'Exploring giving supporters the choice to drink alcohol in the stands was something we were excited to trial and, following such positive feedback from the proof-of-concept version, we're looking forward to opening it up to more venues and equally hearing from those at the heart of it – our clubs and supporters.'
Feedback from the four-club trial in the second half of last season was positive. Two-thirds surveyed supported the idea of the trial continuing, with 48 per cent strongly supporting its continuation.
There were no safety incidents reported and 84 per cent of fans rated their sense of safety at nine or 10 out of 10.

'The reaction was as expected, obviously it was not a positive reaction, they want to compete, they want to play games, that's what they're here for – to play and win,' Mas said on Friday. 'They understand the magnitude of tomorrow night's game, so the reaction was exactly as expected out of two competitive players who don't understand the decision, who don't understand why not attending an exhibition match leads directly to a suspension, the rule is what it is, they don't understand it. 'I don't agree with the rule, I have made my thoughts know to the commissioner very plainly. I think it is going to change but that's neither here nor there, but their reaction was as I expected, they were extremely upset both of them. Asked if the decision could impact Messi's future at Inter Miami, Mas replied: 'He's very upset, he's extremely upset, as expected. I'm hopeful it doesn't have an impact long term. Alexander Isak has donned the No 14 at Newcastle and is considering a move away but that number is occupied at Liverpool - unless the pieces fall into place for it to become vacant Alexander Isak is being heavily linked with a summer switch to Liverpool but the Newcastle star currently wouldn't be able to take the No 14 shirt given it is already occupied - at least for now. Federico Chiesa was the only signing Arne Slot made last summer, albeit the Italian has struggled to make an impact at Anfield and has been left out of their pre-season tour. He was a £10million signing from Juventus but could now make a return to Italy. Atalanta are keen on the Italian, which would free up the No 14 for Isak if he did make the move to Liverpool. However the Serie A side first need to sell Ademola Lookman to Inter Milan before they can complete a deal for Chiesa, according to reports. There has been speculation that the Reds flop could return to his native Italy for months and Atalanta are ready to save the 27-year-old from his torrid spell in England. The Bergamo outfit are ready to make a move for Chiesa according to Football Italia, but only once they have confirmed Lookman's exit. Inter want to add the Englishman, who scored 20 goals, as they rebuild their team in the aftermath of Simone Inzaghi's exit. Atalanta are demanding at least £43m before they let the winger seek pastures new. If that move does not materialise then Isak may have to eye up the No 9, which is currently held by Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan has seen a potential route to an exit blocked after Napoli pulled out of a deal, but he is expected to bring an end to his three seasons on Merseyside - two of which have been in the No 9 shirt - in the coming weeks. The Newcastle ace has spent the last three years at St James' Park and just enjoyed his best season to date. He enjoyed a run of games where he scored in eight games on the bounce, one of which was against Liverpool. He has three years to run on his contract at Newcastle but has told the club he wants to explore a move away from the club, which has put the Reds on alert. Newcastle target £70m Sesko but insist Alexander Isak is not for sale
Newcastle United remain adamant that Alexander Isak is not for sale, despite a breakdown in talks about a new contract and the player's desire to explore possible moves. Senior Newcastle officials are steadfast in their position and maintain that they have not received a bid for the Sweden forward, now the subject of strong interest from the Premier League champions, Liverpool. Newcastle, eager to strengthen and not weaken their squad before a return to the Champions League, are targeting the RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, although it is unclear if they will meet the £70million asking price before the Isak situation is resolved. Leipzig failed to qualify for Europe this season and are thought to be open to a sale. Newcastle have scouted the 22-year-old Slovenia player extensively, with great reports. Newcastle's players have arrived in Singapore, where they will play friendly matches against Arsenal, a K-League XI and Tottenham Hotspur, without the 25-year-old Isak, who has not travelled. Liverpool have privately insisted they will make a move for a forward who scored 27 goals last season only if they are given encouragement by Newcastle. That was certainly not forthcoming on Friday, with Newcastle digging in their heels to repeat the message, from the very top of the club, that the player is not for sale. Contract talks about improving the six-year deal Isak signed when he joined Newcastle for £63million in the summer of 2022 were always planned for this summer. Only then could Newcastle, free of the headlock of the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules, emphatically break their own pay structure, very much on the understanding that Isak deserved that special status and that a substantial pay rise would not unsettle the dressing room. So far that has not been able to tempt Isak or his agent, Vlado Lemic, to extend or improve his contract at St James' Park. The player is holding out for the £300,000-a-week wages he believes he could get at Anfield. The reason given for Isak missing the club's pre-season tour to Asia (a thigh injury) was criticised by Alan Shearer. The Swede had also returned home last weekend instead of being part of Newcastle's squad at Celtic Park and was then pictured training on his own on Monday. A scan on his thigh came back clear. Liverpool have already made one call to Newcastle to inquire about the availability of Isak and were told emphatically that the forward is not for sale. That was 11 days ago but it has so far not deterred them. Newcastle, who have missed out on João Pedro and Hugo Ekitike, faced further frustration when James Trafford, a player they have chased for 12 months and for whom they submitted a £27million bid, joined Manchester City on Friday. Eddie Howe, the Newcastle head coach, has admitted this is becoming an extremely difficult transfer window. Newcastle are also yet to return with an improved bid for the Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, having had a £25million offer turned down during the week. Their only summer recruit so far has been Anthony Elanga, signed from Nottingham Forest for £55million. Newcastle are close to announcing the appointment of David Hopkinson as chief executive and Ross Wilson as sporting director.
