Thunder Could Get Even Scarier Next Season By Adding Young Serbian Star

Topic, a 6-foot-6 playmaking guard, was once projected to go as high as No. 2 overall in the 2024 draft. CBS Sports and ESPN both had him ranked in the top five before the knee injury caused his draft stock to slide.
While several teams got cold feet, the Thunder saw value and snatched him at No. 12, a classic Presti move. He wasn't needed to contribute immediately, but he now enters the 2025-26 season joining a fully formed contender.
What makes the addition of Topic so intriguing is that he's not joining a rebuilding team, but one that could already be in the NBA Finals.

Topic brings a different dynamic to OKC. In his best season in the Adriatic League (ABA) with Mega Basket during the 2023-24 campaign, he averaged 18.6 points, 6.9 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game, shooting 51.5% from the field and 33.8% from three.
He was the youngest player in league history to lead the ABA in assists, all while displaying advanced pick-and-roll vision, deceptive speed, and outstanding composure for a teenager.
He also played briefly for Crvena Zvezda in the EuroLeague before his injury, where he showed flashes against top-tier competition, including a 17-point, 5-assist performance against Maccabi Tel Aviv. Even in limited minutes, scouts raved about his control of the pace and ability to make advanced reads.

His combination of size, IQ, and passing ability has drawn comparisons to a young Goran Dragic with a better frame.
Assuming he returns healthy, Topic will give OKC the luxury of another oversized guard who can create for others and take pressure off SGA in ball-handling duties. He may come off the bench early, but his long-term potential suggests he'll be a major contributor as he adjusts to the NBA speed.
Sam Presti's gamble may become a masterstroke. With Topic waiting in the wings, the Thunder could be adding a top-5-level talent without giving up a single asset. That's how dynasties are built by stockpiling talent before the league realizes what's coming.
Next year, when the Thunder unleash Nikola Topic alongside their MVP and a loaded roster, don't say you weren't warned. The West should be very afraid.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Willson Contreras sustained a left hand contusion after being hit by a pitch by Pittsburgh ace Paul Skenes while leading off the fourth inning of Tuesday night's 1-0 loss to the Pirates. Contreras stayed in the game to run the bases and was thrown out at home plate by Pirates left fielder Tommy Pham to end the inning while trying to score from second base on Pedro Pages' single. Contreras had X-rays on the hand, and they came back negative. He and Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said it is doubtful that the three-time All-Star will play in the teams' series finale on Wednesday. Contreas was replaced in the bottom of the fourth by Alec Burleson, who shifted from left field. Garrett Hampson took over in left. Contreras is hitting .248 in 82 games with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs. The 33-year-old Contreras sustained a season-ending fractured left middle finger last Aug. 24 when he was hit by a pitch. 'When I get hit in the arm or hand, I get a little worried,' Contreras said. 'I think I'm going to be OK, just a day or two (off).' ___

The first two seasons are fully guaranteed, third-year significant partial guarantee, and a fourth-year team option. Former Duke guard Tyrese Proctor, the No. 49 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, signed a multiyear contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, the team announced. Proctor was a third-team All-ACC selection last season, averaging 12.4 points, three rebounds and 2.2 assists on 40.5% shooting from 3-point range in 38 games as a junior. He led the Blue Devils with 89 3-pointers, ranking third in the conference. The 6-foot-5 Australian reportedly agreed to a four-year, $8.69 million contract, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. The first two years are guaranteed on the contract, which includes a significant guarantee in the third year and a team option in the fourth year. Proctor finished in double figures 26 times last season, including four 20-point performances.
