Luis Gurule vs. Ode Osbourne meet Saturday on the main card of UFC on ESPN 65 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.
Last event: 3-3
UFC main cards, 2025: 25-22-1
Luis Gurule vs. Ode Osbourne UFC on ESPN 65 preview
Gurule (10-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) makes his UFC debut off a contract-winning decision over Nick Piccininni on DWCS this past October. He'll get a stiff test in longtime UFC flyweight Osbourne (12-8 MMA, 4-6 UFC), who is mired in a three-fight skid and looking for his first win in more than two years.
Luis Gurule vs. Ode Osbourne UFC on ESPN 65 expert pick, prediction
In an audible that actually suits their card format, the UFC matchmakers have smartly substituted a lower-level heavyweight affair with a flyweight fight between Luis Gurule and Ode Osbourne.
Although there's an argument that Osbourne should've gotten the nod (or at the very least a draw) in his most recent appearance at UFC Noche, the Jamaican-American sadly finds himself on a three-fight skid heading into this fight.
I really wish the UFC matchmakers were kinder to some of their more proven action fighters who are on losing skids rather than pitting them against prospects, but that's the game, I suppose.
I'd love to take a flier on Osbourne to tax Gurule's wrestle-boxing archetype with power kicks from the rear, but Gurule is training with other high-level southpaws and strikers like Brandon Royval and Cory Sandhagen who should have him prepared for the variety coming his way.
More importantly, Gurule – despite being less proven than Osbourne on paper – does appear to look the part when it comes to his ability to flow with transitions and punctuate his presence within a fight.
I feel like Gurule's head-and-arm choke could be something to watch out for, but suspect that the 31-year-old's steady pressure will allow him to pull away down the stretch for a decision win.
Luis Gurule vs. Ode Osbourne UFC on ESPN 65 odds
The oddsmakers and the public favor the UFC newcomer, listing Gurule (-260) and Osbourne (+205) via FanDuel.
Luis Gurule vs. Ode Osbourne UFC on ESPN 65 start time, how to watch

Canada's McIntosh wins second gold at world swimming championships

SINGAPORE - Canada's Summer McIntosh has won her second gold medal at the world swimming championships, taking the women's 200-metre individual medley on Monday. The 18-year-old Toronto native touched the wall in two minutes 6.69 seconds — nearly two seconds ahead of American Alex Walsh, who claimed silver in 2:08.58. Fellow Canadian Mary-Sophie Harvey, of Laval, Que., won bronze in 2:09.15. McIntosh holds the world record in the event and was the heavy favourite heading into the final. This win adds to the 400 freestyle gold she earned on the opening day of competition. McIntosh is targeting five individual golds over the eight-day meet. This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 28, 2025.

Video: Bella Mir stays unbeaten in MMA, makes opponent squeal with slick finish

Bella Mir made a brief parachute back into MMA on Sunday and notched another victory for her undefeated record. Mir, the daughter of former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, told MMA Junkie in June after a UFC BJJ event that she wants to be as active as possible across a variety of combat sports, with her main focus being on the wrestling mats as she pushed to make the 2028 Olympic team. In the interim, however, Mir (4-0) got back in the cage Fury FC Challenger Series 14 in Houston and overwhelmed an outmatched Stephanie Calderon (2-1). Mir isolated a limb for a nasty submission know to some as the "chicken wing," getting the tap at the 3:58 mark of Round 1. Check out a replay of Mir's victory below (via X): 'That's folkstyle wrestling right there – that's a chicken wing,' Mir said in her post-fight interview. 'I'm just glad I got to show my striking this fight because I just wanted to prove to people I could bang with really tough strikers like Stephanie. I see this as a really big win.' The 21-year-old has admitted that her eventual goal is to make it to the UFC and follow in the footsteps of her father by claiming a championship. She is taking the steady approach, however, and Mir said it could be a while before she gets back into an MMA setting in pursuit of her fifth professional win. 'Maybe next year, we'll go back at it again,' Mir said. 'This was fun. I can't wait.'
