A councillor has appeared in court accused of harassing a girl with unwanted messages. Kyle Eldridge, 28, is alleged to have messaged the 17-year-old on social media platform Instagram and sent voice notes and emails.
Eldridge, of St George's Crescent in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, represents the Park ward on Abergavenny Town Council as an independent, having been elected as a Labour candidate. He has denied a single charge of harassment without violence.

In a hearing at Newport Magistrates' Court, District Judge Sophie Toms extended Eldridge's unconditional bail ahead of a trial on July 29.

The town council's principal officer Sandra Rosser previously said Eldridge had not attended council meetings since the allegations emerged. She said he was also removed from an appointment he was due to take as a school governor.
"He doesn't hold any positions on any board or organisations directly linked to him being a councillor," she said in February.

Car owners warned of new scam which could see them being hit with hefty fines

Drivers should be aware of the sophisticated scam being used by criminals. UK drivers are being warned about a sophisticated new scam that could result in hefty fines for crimes they never committed. ‌ Number plate cloning has become a fast-growing criminal enterprise, with thieves systematically scanning social media posts, online marketplaces, and car sale listings to steal registration details from innocent motorists' photos. ‌ Criminals create duplicate number plates using clear images found online, then fit them to similar vehicles used in illegal activities. This leaves unsuspecting car owners facing speeding fines, congestion charge penalties, or even police inquiries for offences committed hundreds of miles away. ‌ Most disturbingly, many victims only discover they've been targeted when multiple penalty notices start arriving for locations they've never visited. The DVLA and police forces have now issued official warnings acknowledging the reality and explosive growth of this digital-age crime. Transport for London alone reported a mind-boggling 631% increase in cancelled fines due to proven cases of plate cloning, demonstrating how widespread this criminal activity has become. ‌ Simple PCP Claims car finance expert Tom Riley, said: "Blurring your reg plate might seem paranoid but it's now basic digital hygiene. "Criminals can buy plate-making equipment online for less than £50 and have your cloned plates ready within hours of spotting your Instagram post." ‌ The theft process is disturbingly simple. Criminals use readily available software to scan through thousands of social media images, automatically detecting and harvesting clear registration plate details. These are then fed into illegal plate-making operations that can produce convincing duplicates in minutes. Official advice now includes covering or blurring registration plates as a standard safety precaution when posting any vehicle images online. ‌ Fortunately, protecting yourself from plate cloning is straightforward and costs nothing. The most effective defence is simply blurring or covering your registration plate whenever you share car photos online - whether on social media feeds, selling platforms, or car enthusiast groups. If you do receive unexpected fines or correspondence relating to offences you didn't commit, act immediately. Report the incident to both the police and DVLA, providing evidence of your whereabouts and seeking cancellation of any wrongful charges. Many victims successfully get fraudulent penalties cancelled when they can prove cloning. ‌ Tom added: "There are thousands of documented cases where innocent drivers receive penalties for crimes they never committed. The irony is that a two-second blur tool could have prevented legal headaches and stress." Motorists were also recently urged to follow smart driving advice, which could result in them using less fuel while on the road. According to experts, drivers could save cash at the petrol pump by simply doing one thing. All motorists have to do is take their foot off the accelerator. The advice centres around a built-in feature present in most modern petrol and diesel cars, and it could save drivers significantly when fuelling up.

The intruder was inside for 32 minutes and entered the bedroom where the woman and her partner were sleeping eight times. At one point, he flashes his torch over the pair who were in bed before focusing in on the woman. Speaking to the MailOnline the woman said: "I looked at the camera and my blood ran cold. "The guy came into the room eight times. He was looking in between my legs, at my intimate parts, looking at my face. "He forgot all about the burglary. He was more interested in looking at me." The burglar eventually fled the Marbella home undetected as he swiped a purse with 300 euros inside. The rest of their valuables and expensive goods were all exactly where they left them - including in the couple's 18-year-old son's room next door. Moment hero cop saves girl, 11, from 'paedo trying to force her into flat…with perv now facing chemical castration' This has led the victim to fear that the man wasn't simply looking to burgle the home but had much more sinister plans. She said: "That man didn't come to my house to steal, he came to do something to me. "I was alone the night before. What if he'd come then?" The mum says she now faces recurring nightmares when trying to sleep with one of her major fears stemming from what may have happened if she had woke up. She woke up shortly after the thief fled to go to the toilet but believes if she crossed paths she would have screamed. "The intruder might have been carrying a knife or a pistol," she feared. The woman has now been forced to undergo psychological treatment to process the trauma. "I am still traumatised by this. Before I go to the toilet at night, I look at the cameras," she revealed. "If my boyfriend leaves the bed at night, I jump. I am now seeing a psychologist." The brave victim released the video shortly after taking it to the police as she said it was the only way to get justice and catch the "sick predator". Local police are investigating the case and analysing the footage but are yet to identify the suspect. They believe he likely entered the house through a terrace door. Marbella is already on high alert for burglaries with residents warned to bolster up their security systems as cops hunt for a thief in the area. Chilling footage shows a man in a mask and grey hoodie breaking and entering into a series of villas between San Pedro de Alcantara in Marbella and Benahavis. Dubbed the San Pedro Prowler, the man is regarded as an expert lock picker. Among the recent stolen items include 10,000 euros in cash and a 30,000 euro watch. 5 The thief stole 300 euros from the home Credit: EnBocaDeTodos18J

Home Office launches probe into use of asylum seeker payment cards for gambling

More than 6,500 transactions were attempted online and at sites such as casinos, slot machine arcades and national lottery retailers in the past year, according to a Freedom of Information request made by PoliticsHome. The payments online were blocked each time, while in some other cases cash withdrawals were made in or near gambling venues, located using the terminal's ID number. When asylum seekers arrive in the UK, they are given a chip and pin debit card called an Aspen card, which is intended to provide weekly support to buy essentials such as food, clothing and toiletries. For people being housed in hotels that provide meals, the allowance is £9.95 a week, and for those in self-catered accommodation the allowance is usually £49.18 a week. The cards are taxpayer-funded and there are around 80,000 users in the UK. The data showed a peak of 227 attempts to use the cards to gamble in a single week last November. At the lowest point, there were 40 attempts to use the cards to gamble in a week last July. Shadow home secretary Chris Philp said: 'This Labour Government is allowing illegal migrants to gamble using taxpayers' hard-earned cash. This madness has to end.' A Home Office spokesperson said: 'The Home Office have begun an investigation into the use of Aspen cards. 'The Home Office has a legal obligation to support asylum seekers, including any dependants, who would otherwise be destitute.'
