Legendary rocker looks worlds away from Live Aid – 40 years after iconic concert

ONE of the rockers at the forefront of the historic Live Aid concert looks completely different four decades on. Eric Bazilian, 71, is a founding member of the US band, the Hooters and wrote Joan Osborne hit, One of Us. 3 3 The rocker fronted the Philadelphia-born band during the 1985 US leg of Live Aid on July 13. Live Aid was an unprecedented series of concerts that brought together some of the biggest musicians from around the world to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. The global event saw Madonna, U2, David Bowie, Elton John and Queen, among others, perform at simultaneous concerts at Wembley Stadium and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. The Hooters opened the US Live Aid with their hits, And We Danced and All You Zombies. Eric founded the band with Rob Hyman in 1980 and their second album, Nervous Night, catapulted them to fame and went platinum. Outside of the band, Eric co-produced Joan Osborne's 1995 album, Relish, which would go on to be nominated for six Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year for One of Us. Live Aid is gearing up to celebrate its 40th birthday this week, including with the release on Friday of Just For One Day, The Live Aid Musical album. The 30-track collection of songs from the groundbreaking concert is recorded by the cast of the theatre show. Live Aid was spearheaded by Boomtown Rats front man, Bob Geldof, and the Band Aid Charitable Trust has raised more than £150million for people in need since its launch. The musical opened at London's Shaftesbury Theatre on May 15 and ten percent of tickets sales are going to the charity. Kevin Cronin and Speedwagon play Roll With The Changes at Band Aid Band Aid was also responsible for the release of charity single Do They Know It's Christmas? which sold three million copies in the UK alone. The single was inspired by a haunting 1984 BBC News report from Ethiopia, where famine had ravaged the country and led to 1.2million deaths between 1983 and 1985 alone. Eric previously opened up on why it was special to be a home grown band opening Live Aid in Philadephia. "I think we had a tremendous amount of Philly pride, we were able to say, 'Welcome to Philadelphia'," he told NBC10 Philadelphia in 2022. "We were able to welcome the world. We were only able to play for 10 minutes, but that was 10 minutes that changed our history and rocked the world." 3

John McEnroe calls for Wimbledon rule change live on TV during women's singles final

Tennis great John McEnroe made his feelings clear ahead of this weekend's Wimbledon women's singles final. Saturday's action saw Poland's Iga Swiatek take on American Amanda Anisimova on Centre Court, in what was a first Wimbledon final for both competitors. As the pair prepared to make the walk to compete in front of a packed audience at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Swiatek could be seen donning a pair of over-ear headphones. While the sight of athletes listening to music before a decisive event as a means of psyching themselves up is commonplace in many sports, three-time Wimbledon winner McEnroe insisted the practice is unnecessary. Speaking live on the BBC as part of his punditry duties, the outspoken American claimed Swiatek would be better served taking in the enormity of the occasion. 'They shouldn't allow them to wear AirPods or headphones,' McEnroe said. 'Because you have got to get them to enjoy [the atmosphere] instead of playing some music. Come on now, ladies.' World No 4 Swiatek previously revealed that she listens to classic rock music before her matches as a means of psyching herself up for competition. The ritual appears to have been effective as Swiatek was utterly dominant once play got underway. Clearly struggling to meet the occasion of her first Grand Slam final, Anisimova failed to build any momentum as she hit eight double faults and made 28 unforced errors. Swiatek ultimately claimed victory in just 57 minutes, winning 6-0, 6-0 to mark her sixth Grand Slam triumph. The only other 6-0, 6-0 defeat in a final at Wimbledon came in 1911, when Dora Boothby lost to Dorothea Lambert Chambers.

If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more It's almost impossible to find a swimsuit that everyone looks good in, but I truly believe TA3's swimsuits are just that. These contouring swimsuits with built-in shapewear are perfect to smooth out your curves and give you that hourglass shape you truly desire. That's why they're perfect for postpartum mothers, too — no more feeling insecure in your body. Wear your TA3 one-piece suit with pride. TA3 Plungey Swimsuit Available in tons of colors, this shaping swimsuit will give you an hourglass shape while providing full support. It's available in sizes XXS to 4XL and can support cup sizes from A to K. Shop now while stocks last. Shop You might've seen these suits blowing up on Instagram or TikTok. Women put them on and then do a dramatic tie pull to tighten the suit, corset-style. The result is a smooth, Baywatch-style suit that holds everything in — literally. I own two pairs and it's my favorite for days I'm feeling a little bloated or just not confident in a bikini. The Plungey, $178, is the bestselling design and features a plunging neckline, a lace-up back, and the option to choose between 17 colors. TA3's most noteworthy aspect is its size availability. You can shop the Plungey in sizes ranging from XXS to 4XL. The best part? The suit can support all cup sizes — all the way from A to K. As a woman with a larger bust, this is game-changing for me. It really holds everything in place and keeps my chest from bouncing around. This makes it a particularly good option for postpartum women too, as it can offer the comfort and support you need, without ever feeling like it's biting into your skin or feeling too tight. And it really is comfortable — the suits are each made from breathable fabrics, designed to give moms the confidence they need, while also flattering your existing body type. Flattering for all: Women of all sizes love this suit for its flattering fit There are push-up bust pads in it too, giving you the lift you desire, and the suit itself offers sun protection, keeping you from burning while you're on the beach all day. It's fully adjustable too, from the straps to the lace-up design, allowing you to customize as you see fit. You don't have to take my word for it — over 500 TA3 shoppers gave the Plungey a 4.8-star rating. 'Believe the reviews. I do not like cheeky swimsuits so I chose the Plungey for the full bottom coverage... I wore it for 3 straight days at the beach and it was very comfortable and flattering,' says one shopper. 'This was the last style I tried as I have a large bust (34H) and thought it would be the least likely to contain and support my chest. Pleasantly surprised at the support it gives without underwire and it's the perfect amount of cheeky in the back,' adds another. Shop the suit in 17 different colors before they sell out of stock 'I have personally never worn a one-piece before this one and was afraid of feeling un-sexy. This suit accented my curves (and made some new ones) and gave me an hourglass figure. I'm obsessed,' says a third. I had the exact same experience when I tried my first TA3 swimsuit on, and you can too! Whether you're a postpartum mother or just someone looking to feel confident and sexy in a one-piece, TA3 has options for everyone. The Plungey is by far their most loved suit, but the brand offers tons of options depending on what you're looking for. Shop soon — because believe me, colors and sizes sell out often.
