7 ride one scooter in Odisha, fined Rs 21,500 after video goes viral: ‘6 of them were minors'
The group was seen riding at high speed, shouting obscenities, and creating a public disturbance. After being alerted by the viral clip, police reviewed CCTV footage to trace the vehicle. The rider was detained, the scooter seized, and a fine of Rs 21,500 was imposed, as per The Times of India. The report also said six of the seven were found to be minors.

TOI quoted Ramdas Tudu, RTO (Sambalpur), as saying, 'Dhanupali police informed us about the incident. We have penalised them of Rs 21,500. We are requesting people not to break traffic rules and or do stunts.'
Tophan Bag, the SDPO, told TOI, 'We got the video around 11:30pm on Sunday where seven were riding a single scooter recklessly while shouting in filthy language. As per the instruction of SP, Dhanupali and Khetrajpur police started tracking the vehicle and traced the scooter.'
The video of the incident has gone viral, and has sparked outrage online. One user commented, 'Is there any medium to report such peanuts riding bikes and scooty in very high speeds without any protective gear, risking lives of many? Coz I see many around me and despite the urge to stop and hit them, I can't coz then I'll be the culprit.'
Another user wrote, 'We don't need to pay taxes.. you can recover all of the money from the fines itself from various sectors.' A third user took a dig, writing, 'They were practicing for the 26th January parade.'
Some also raised questions about policy enforcement, with one commenter saying, 'Why govt not cancelling license because two wheller company will say our turnover is going down.'
According to Brut India, Odisha saw a whopping 5.6 million e-challans issued in 2024, collecting over Rs 2,398 crore in fines, a staggering figure that highlights both the scale of traffic violations and the state's growing digital enforcement.

Probe panel holds KCR responsible for Kaleshwaram project irregularities: Sources
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) has been named as primarily responsible for large-scale irregularities in the planning, design, and financial management of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project in the final report of the Justice PC Ghose Commission, according to report submitted on July 31, describes the project as a 'colossal waste of public money,' the Commission has placed direct and vicarious accountability on Rao for what it calls 'rampant and brazen irregularities' that led to a financial disaster and structural Kaleshwaram project, which includes the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages, saw its cost escalate from Rs 38,500 crore to over Rs 1.10 lakh crore by 2022. The Commission's report states that key planning and decision-making processes were dominated solely by Rao and then Irrigation minister and KCR's nephew T Harish Rao, without approval from the cabinet. A crucial expert report opposing the viability of the Medigadda barrage was allegedly suppressed, and site changes were pushed through with misleading justifications and a lack of report finds that the contracts were awarded on a lump sum basis, bypassing the Central Water Commission's recommendation for turnkey contracts. Subsequent revised administrative approvals (RAA I and II) led to a drastic and unjustified increase in costs. The Commission notes that completion certificates were issued despite incomplete and defective work, and that there was collusion between contractors and government officials, leading to massive losses to the public lapses in operation and maintenance were also highlighted. The Commission found that there were no inspections or safety checks and that water was impounded continuously in violation of engineering norms, contributing to the structural distress seen at Medigadda. The project also used unsafe permeable foundations for water storage and ignored geotechnical study requirements, with quality checks allegedly addition to KCR, the Commission has named several other key officials. The then Irrigation minister T Harish Rao has been held responsible for suppressing expert advice, and then Finance Minister Eatala Rajender has been criticised for failing to ensure financial oversight. Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers and engineers were found to have suppressed facts, submitted false evidence, and failed in their duties related to safety and report recommends strong legal action against those involved and recovery of misused public funds. Gangster Ejaz Lakdawala acquitted in 2011 extortion, attempt to murder case
A Thane Sessions Court has acquitted alleged gangster Ejaz Yusuf Lakdawala in a 2011 extortion and attempted murder case, citing lack of evidence and unreliable witness Judge VL Bhosale, delivering the verdict, observed that none of the prosecution witnesses supported claims that Lakdawala was in possession of a pistol or had attempted to murder the complainant. Notably, except for one individual, none of the witnesses identified Lakdawala in to the prosecution, on April 19, 2011, at around 5:15 p.m., two unidentified men stormed into the Anandnagar office of builder Anup Jalan, owner of Regency Tower, and demanded Rs 5 lakh in extortion. When Jalan refused, one of the accused allegedly pulled out a pistol, pointed it at him, and attempted to fire. However, the weapon malfunctioned. The accused slammed the pistol repeatedly in frustration, causing four bullets to fall out. He then struck Jalan on the head with the weapon's butt and vandalised the office by smashing its glass faade, shouting, 'Ejaz Lakdawala aya tha' ('Ejaz Lakdawala had come'). The assailant reportedly left behind a chit bearing Lakdawala's name and a mobile number before fleeing. The case was registered by a peon from the builder's office, but Lakdawala was arrested only in 2021.A key panch witness, who police claimed was present during the seizure of the chit and bullets, told the court that the police recovered no items in his presence. Additionally, a sales executive who witnessed the incident failed to identify Lakdawala in court and admitted during cross-examination that he had testified 'to make the police happy.' Another employee gave a similar account but also did not identify the the court noted investigative lapses. Andhra Pradesh police seize 370 kg ganja, arrest four suspects, four on run
In a crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Andhra Pradesh's Anakapalli district seized 370 kilograms of ganja worth approximately Rs 1 on a tip-off received through Elite Anti Narcotics Group of Law Enforcement (Eagle), the police carried out a vehicle check on August 2, 2025 around 9.15 am at Rachapalli Junction, Makavarapalem team was led by Narsipatnam Rural Circle Inspector L Revathamma and Makavarapalem, Sub Inspector P Damodara During the inspection, the police noticed a scooty, a white Swift Dzire, and a white Ertiga stopping nearby. Upon spotting the police, several occupants from the vehicles attempted to the chase, the police managed to apprehend one individual from the scooty, two from the Swift Dzire, and one from the Ertiga. Four others managed to escape and are currently inspection in the presence of mediators, five gunny bags emitting a strong odour of ganja were found in the Swift Dzire, while ten similar bags were discovered in the Ertiga. The contraband included leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds of total, 370 kg of ganja, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore in the open market, was seized during the raid. Along with ganja the police also seized a Swift Dzire car, an Ertiga Car, a Scooty & 5 mobile phones from the confirmed that A-1 to A-3 and A-5 escaped.
