2.5cr allocated by GCC for CNG cattle-catching vehicles in city

Time of India22-06-2025
Chennai: Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has sanctioned the replacement of eight aging cattle-catching vehicles with newly designed, CNG-powered alternatives. The move is expected to improve operational efficiency and support the city's green initiatives.
The civic agency has set aside 2.56 crore for the new vehicles.
Cattle roaming in public areas not only pose a danger to motorists and pedestrians but also contribute to frequent traffic congestion, particularly in densely populated and commercial zones. Currently, GCC operates 20 specially fabricated vehicles equipped with hydraulic lifts to manage such situations. However, eight of these vehicles have been in continuous operation for over 10 years and are now beyond economical repair, officials said.
"Additionally, diesel engines contribute to urban air pollution. Administration is now exploring cleaner alternatives," said a senior GCC official. During the budget session, the mayor announced that the civic body will procure CNG vehicles for cattle.
Each of the new CNG vehicles is estimated to cost 32 lakh, bringing the total project cost for all eight units to 2.56 crore. Once the new vehicles are inducted into service, GCC will initiate the scrapping of the obsolete vehicles, in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.

Members of the public, however, lament over stray cattle menace. "We need permanent solution for the issue. The civic body must carry out an intensive cattle-catching drive across the city and increase penalties for owners who violate the guidelines," said S Antony Prince, a resident of Madipakkam.

Not Karisma Kapoor, Priya Sachdev or kids — THIS man now leads Sunjay Kapur's Rs 31,000 crore business empire

Sunjay Kapur, the ex-husband of Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor , passed away from a heart attack on 12 June while playing polo in the United Kingdom. He was only 53. Known for his ties to the film world, Sunjay was also a top businessman who built a massive business empire reportedly worth a jaw-dropping $4.7 billion (about Rs 31,000 crore). After his sudden passing, many thought his business would be taken over by his family. But that is not what happened. Who now leads Sunjay Kapur's business? Many expected that Sunjay Kapur's sisters, Superna Kapur Motwane and Mandira Kapur Koirala, who are both doing well in their own careers, might step in to run things. But Sona Comstar, the big auto parts company that Sunjay took to new heights as its Chairman and non-executive director, surprised everyone. The company's board chose Jeffrey Mark Overly, who was already an independent director at Sona Comstar since 2021, as the new Chairman. This happened less than a month after Sunjay Kapur's demise. In a regulatory filing, Sona Comstar also paid heartfelt respect to Sunjay. They said he was being given the honour of Chairman Emeritus. The company shared how much they valued him, saying that his 'vision, leadership and dedication' had left a deep mark on them. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Discover Effortless Glucose Monitoring: Request a Free Trial Dexcom Try Now Undo Who is Jeffrey Mark Overly? Jeffrey Mark Overly is no stranger to the business world. As reported by he has spent over 25 years working in big roles at major car brands like General Motors and Delphi Corporation. He studied Industrial Management at the University of Cincinnati and has been part of the automotive industry for more than 40 years. Thanks to his long career and the fact that he was already on the board, the company clearly felt he was the right person to take the top seat after Sunjay. What did Karisma Kapoor and her kids get? Even though many people might think Sunjay's ex-wife Karisma Kapoor and their children would get a piece of his big business pie, that is not the case. Reports say neither Karisma nor their two kids, Samaira and Kian, got any share in Sunjay Kapur's stake in Sona Comstar, or in his personal assets worth around Rs 13,000 crore. So who gets the personal wealth? Sunjay's third wife Priya Sachdev and her children, including the child from her earlier marriage, will now reportedly have rights over his personal property. As per multiple reports, Sunjay did make sure his children with Karisma were looked after. After their divorce in 2016, he bought a Rs 14 crore bond for Samaira and Kian. This gives them a monthly interest of Rs 10 lakh, meant to pay for their day-to-day needs. Plus, his house in Khar is also in their names. Karisma herself received Rs 70 crore in alimony when their marriage ended. Priya Sachdev gets a place in the company too While she didn't take over as the main boss, Sunjay's third wife Priya Sachdev has now become a non-executive director at Sona Comstar. Priya has plenty of corporate experience. She started her career in London as an M&A analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston. She also knows quite a lot about areas like automotive, insurance and fashion, which will likely help her in her new role.

Supertech EV to debut today. Muted GMP signals cautious debut

Electric two-wheeler and e-rickshaw maker Supertech EV will debut on the BSE SME platform on July 2 after closing its Rs 29.90 crore IPO last week. Ahead of the listing, the stock is commanding a GMP of just Rs 0.5, indicating a subdued listing pop of 0.5% over the issue price of Rs 92. The IPO, which was entirely a fresh issue of 32.5 lakh shares, was open from June 25 to June 27 and priced in a tight band with a single cut-off price. The listing comes on the back of moderate investor interest, particularly in the retail and HNI segments, with no offer-for-sale component. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like War Thunder - Register now for free and play against over 75 Million real Players War Thunder Play Now Undo Despite the lukewarm GMP, analysts say the long-term opportunity in the electric mobility space could play in Supertech EV's favour. Incorporated in 2022, the Delhi-based company has carved a niche in the EV manufacturing segment with 12 models in its portfolio — including eight electric scooters and four e-rickshaw variants. Its pan-India network of over 445 distributors across 19 states suggests a strong last-mile retail presence. Supertech reported a 15% jump in revenue and 23% rise in PAT in FY25 over the previous year. Its net profit for FY25 stood at Rs 6.19 crore, on revenue of Rs 75.19 crore. Live Events The company plans to use the IPO proceeds to fund working capital needs (Rs 16.5 crore), repay a portion of existing borrowings (Rs 3 crore), and for general corporate purposes. While the GMP doesn't suggest fireworks on debut, market watchers believe Supertech EV's differentiated presence in the EV space and wide distribution may attract long-term investors, especially if the stock dips in the early days of trade.
