Christine McGuinness reveals 'exhausting' fight for her children after Paddy divorce
Christine McGuinness received her autism and ADHD diagnosis four years ago and has since become a fierce advocate for other neurodiverse families. The former Pilgrimage star, who separated from her comedian husband Paddy McGuinness in 2022, says she'll never stop fighting to make the world a better place for people like her and three autistic children, twins Leo and Penelope, 12, and eight-year-old Felicity.
Speaking exclusively to OK!, 37-year-old Christine said: "I try not to look too far ahead because it upsets me. I have to separate being a carer and a mum. I'll take my emotions out of it as a mum, and become a carer. I've got to make sure my children have help and support, and help people understand the need to be patient, to celebrate and support them. I'm not the only autistic mum with autistic children — there are thousands of families with exactly the same fears."
Christine is currently working with home builders Barratt Redrow, who have committed to building 100 new accessible and inclusive play areas every year.
'I'm raising three children to one day live without me, and those are three children I can't live without, and that breaks my heart. But it's what makes me keep going and keep fighting. I feel extremely fortunate that I can try and help make changes that other people don't even think about.
'As a mum of three autistic children I know the struggle of trying to find places that are suitable for them. Not just suitable because of what there is to play with, but spaces where they feel safe, wanted and understood."
Heartbreakingly, Christine said she feels like a "failure" when she's not able to give her autistic children the same experiences as some other families.
"You feel like a failure when you're not getting your children out and about enough, and your children aren't picking up social cues, and learning to play with others and communicate."
Christine first spoke out about her experiences in the BBC documentary she made with her then husband Paddy, titled Paddy And Christine McGuinness: Our Family And Autism, and delved into the subject further in Christine McGuinness: Unmasking My Autism.
Her overall goal, she says, is to spread awareness, increase education and, ultimately, make the world a more accepting place for every neurodiverse child and adult.
"As a parent you do anything to support them so they can grow up as independent as possible," she added.
"You'll always find a brick wall that you want to bash down and you get to a point where you're exhausted – but the fight for your children never, ever stops."

MasterChef star 'edited out of BBC series' after asking for it to be axed
A contestant on the BBC's MasterChef has been edited out of the upcoming season after asking for it not to be aired. The release of the new season (set to come out next week) has been mired in controversy after co-presenters Gregg Wallace and John Torode were fired from the cooking reality competition. They were sacked after a review into misconduct accusations against Wallace substantiated 45 allegations against him, including an incident of 'unwelcome physical contact' and upheld a racial language allegation against Torode, which he doesn't recall. After weeks of uncertainty over whether the already-recorded amateur season involving both hosts would go ahead, the BBC recently confirmed it would air in early August. Now, a contestant has told the Guardian that she ultimately agreed to be edited out of the show after requesting the whole season be axed. Sarah Shafi, a leadership and management development partner for St John Ambulance from Leeds, explained that she initially rejected the offer to be edited out but changed her mind after discovering the show would broadcast from August 6. She told the publication: 'I didn't say edit me out. I said: 'Axe the show, don't air the show. I'm asking you not to air the show.' Prominent figures have been abusing their power. What message does that send out to women? 'For me, it's about the enabling environment. It's that complicity. Those individual powerful men do not [act] in isolation. There is an enabling environment, turning a blind eye … It's about years of these institutions not being accountable.' In a statement to Metro, the BBC said: 'As we said when we announced the show would be aired, this was not an easy decision in the circumstances and we appreciate not everyone would agree with it. 'Banijay consulted with all the contestants before that decision was made and there was widespread support for it going ahead. 'We are sorry that this contestant does not support the decision and we are grateful she raised this with both the BBC and Banijay.' When they first announced their final decision, a spokesperson explained that it had 'not been an easy decision in the circumstances'. They continued: 'MasterChef is an amazing competition which is life-changing for the amateur chefs taking part. The focus of it has always been their skill and their journey. 'In showing the series, which was filmed last year, it in no way diminishes our view of the seriousness of the upheld findings against both presenters. 'We have been very clear on the standards of behaviour that we expect of those who work at the BBC or on shows made for the BBC.' It is understood that the edit of the whole season has been 'looked at' to focus on the contestants and their journey, although the presenters will still be present. There is still no firm conclusion on the fate of the further Celebrity MasterChef season and two festive specials that still feature Torode. More Trending The BBC has previously also reiterated its optimism over the future of MasterChef on the national broadcaster beyond 2028 when this contract expires. The search for the next set of presenters is on, following rumours that Great British Menu star Andi Oliver and Saturday Kitchen's Matt Tebbutt had been 'confirmed' as the new faces. BBC Radio 2 suffers hit as rivals gain traction
Radio 2 has lost nearly half a million listeners since its new weekday schedule launched, with its weekly audience falling to 12.62 million for April to June, the lowest total since autumn 2021. The station's flagship breakfast show, now presented by Scott Mills, also saw a dip in listeners to 6.22 million, although it retains its position as the UK's most popular national radio breakfast programme. Despite the overall decline, Radio 2 maintains its status as the UK's most listened-to single radio station, with Vernon Kay 's mid-morning show attracting the largest audience across all UK radio programmes. The BBC's overall share of radio listening time in the UK has decreased to 42.1 per cent, down from 48.1 per cent three years ago. While commercial network Greatest Hits saw a drop in listeners, some smaller news-based stations like Times Radio and GB News reported year-on-year increases in their audience figures.

Some fans consider this war movie a masterpiece Netflix fans are rediscovering a SAS Rogue Heroes star's war movie that is based on a 'remarkable' true story. Unbroken was initially released back in 2014. Inspired by the biography of Louis Zamperini, the US Olympic track record holder, it tells the story of his real life experiences during the Second World War. The film is currently proving popular on the streaming platform. Zamperini managed to survive a plane crash, only to be left at the mercy of nature and then eventually find himself locked up and facing brutality as a prisoner of war. The film was directed by Angelina Jolie with a screenplay cowritten by the Coen brothers. Jack O'Connell, known for appearing in the Steven Knight created BBC series SAS Rogue Heroes along with films Sinners and 28 Years Later, leads the film as Zamperini. Fans of the historical war series are encouraged to sample Unbroken now it is finding a new audience on Netflix. They are both praised for their depiction of real life events during times of war. Domnhall Gleeson co-stars in Unbroken alongside O'Connell as a fellow survivor of the plane crash. The actor reportedly lost so much weight for the role that his eyeballs shrunk. While critics have the title a lukewarm reception, with it only managing 53% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it is remembered more fondly by fans. At the time of writing, it is currently one of the most watched films on Netflix, with it sitting tenth in the top 10 among UK users. Many who have already seen it have sung its praises online. A viewer went so far as to dub it: "One of the best movies of this century." One person, sharing their thoughts claimed: "A truly inspiring masterpiece. Unbroken is one of the most powerful and deeply moving films I've ever seen. The movie is beautifully shot and emotionally gripping from start to finish. Jack O'Connell gives a brilliant performance, and the direction by Angelina Jolie brings raw honesty and heart." They continued: "It's not just a war story, it's a story about never giving up, about faith, courage, and resilience. Truly unforgettable. A must-watch for anyone who loves real stories of strength and survival." Another fan added: "Most underrated film of all time. Inspirational and amazing true story of a true American hero. This movie is like no other and is definitely one of the greatest movies of all time. It doesn't matter if you don't like war movies. Once you watch this moving it will truly impact your life forever." Someone else commented: "I had emotional breakdowns watching this movie. Such a creative masterpiece. This is definitely among my best ten movies of all time. I was even shocked to see that the director is my favourite female actress Angelina Jolie. She never seize to surprise me with her talents. All in all, this is a 10/10 movie."
