Summer McIntosh won her second gold at the World Championships in Singapore, taking the 200m medley. The 18-year-old Canadian aims to win five individual titles.
Swimming sensation Summer McIntosh captured her second gold medal in as many days on Monday, winning the 200m individual medley at the World Championships in Singapore.
The 18-year-old Canadian touched the wall in 2 minutes, 06.69 seconds, ahead of Alex Walsh of the United States (2:08.58) and fellow Canadian Mary-Sophie Harvey (2:09.15).
Just missing out on a podium finish was 12-year-old Chinese prodigy Yu Zidi, who placed fourth with a time of 2:09.21. Yu had burst off the blocks fastest and was in medal position through the early stages but faded slightly in the final stretch.
Red-Hot McIntosh Eyes Historic Championship Run
McIntosh arrived in Singapore in exceptional form, having already won the 400m freestyle on Sunday's opening day of competition. She now sets her sights on joining swimming legend Michael Phelps as the only athletes to win five individual titles at a single world championships.
The reigning Olympic champion and world record holder entered the 200m medley as the overwhelming favorite, having shattered Katinka Hosszu's decade-old world record earlier this year. At the Canadian trials in June, McIntosh posted a blazing time of 2:05.70, rewriting the record books.
She also broke her own 400m medley world record during those trials, marking her third world record in just a matter of days.
McIntosh emerged as one of the biggest stars at the Paris Olympics last year, winning three gold medals, including a double in the 200m and 400m medley events.
In Singapore, her campaign is far from over. She is still scheduled to compete in the 400m individual medley, 200m butterfly, and 800m freestyle—events that could further cement her place among the sport's all-time greats.

'She just wants attention': Simone Biles faces unexpected NFL backlash as feud with Riley Gaines fuels fan criticism

Once celebrated as the NFL 's 'it couple,' Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens are now facing unexpected backlash. From viral sideline moments to social media criticism, fans have turned on Biles amid controversy. Her public feud with Riley Gaines may be fueling the fallout as her NFL support takes a surprising hit. From viral sideline sweetheart to polarizing figure on Bears turf Not long ago, Simone Biles was hailed as the gold standard of NFL WAGs (wives and girlfriends), captivating fans with her heartfelt sideline moments alongside husband Jonathan Owens, now a Chicago Bears safety. In December 2024, she was praised for her warm embrace and playful handshake with Owens before a Bears game, a viral moment that had fans dubbing them the 'real MVP couple,' even above the media-favorite Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. But fast forward to the Bears' Family Fest on August 3, 2025, and the narrative around Biles has taken a sharp turn. Although the couple shared another affectionate pregame interaction, the public reaction was jarringly different. Fans who once celebrated Biles turned hostile, criticizing everything from her fashion choices to her very presence. One commenter asked, 'She hasn't been fully canceled yet?' while another bluntly called her 'overrated as a human being. ' Fan resentment grows as feud with Riley Gaines resurfaces The sudden shift in public sentiment may trace back to Biles' public clash with Riley Gaines, a former NCAA swimmer and outspoken conservative voice on women's sports. The feud, which played out on social media and cable networks, polarized audiences and cast Biles in a political spotlight she hadn't occupied before. Now, some NFL fans appear to be taking sides—against her. While there's no concrete evidence that her dispute with Gaines triggered the backlash at Family Fest, it seems to have intensified the public's scrutiny. Critics even mocked her for not wearing Bears gear, suggesting she was stealing the spotlight. 'She's not even a real fan,' one user joked, pointing out her neutral outfit. From America's sweetheart to NFL target Simone Biles may be used to pressure from years of elite competition, but this type of fan revolt marks new territory. The internet has turned on the Olympic icon with alarming speed—transforming her from NFL darling to divisive figure. As one social media user harshly put it, 'She used to represent strength. Now she just wants attention.' First published on July 22, 2025, on ABC News' headline regarding a new gender policy affecting the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams, she shared an Instagram story. The article stated that Team USA would no longer permit transgender women to participate in women's categories at the Paralympic Games or Olympic Games. This decision follows a new rule from the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), matching Donald Trump's order from February 2025. That order is called 'Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports.' Donald Trump's order leads to major policy shift across Olympic and college sports The rule now specifies that only those who are biologically female can attend events for women. Though Sophie Cunningham's mother didn't comment directly, her repost showed her support of this shift. Sophie Cunningham's mom reacts to US Olympic gender rule change triggered by Trump's executive order U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order in February 2025 requesting all schools, athletic leagues, and Olympic bodies to segregate male and female players. Only biological women are permitted to join women's teams and utilize women's restrooms according to the ordinance. Speaking about this at a rally later that month, Trump said, 'We will not allow men to beat up, injure, and cheat our women and girls.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Simple Morning Habit for a Flatter Belly After 50! That was during her time with the Phoenix Mercury. Her teammate back then, Natasha Cloud, responded by tweeting, 'I'm absolutely going to keep tweeting factual information and holding those around me accountable for posting dangerous misinformation.' Now, both players have moved on. Natasha Cloud plays for the New York Liberty, and Sophie Cunningham is part of the starting lineup for the Indiana Fever.
