Pahang Bersatu claims growing interest from non-Malays in associate wing
KUANTAN: Pahang Bersatu claims that a growing number of non-Malays across the state are expected to submit their applications to join its associate wing in the coming months. Pahang Bersatu chairman Datuk Abdul Khalib Abdullah said two prominent figures — former MCA Youth secretary Datuk Leong Kim Soon and former Pahang People's Progressive Party (MyPPP) women's chief Datuk Harvinder Kaur — joined Bersatu last month. "They will not be the last as we anticipate more non-Malays will sign up as Bersatu members. Some within MCA have begun expressing interest in joining... they see Perikatan Nasional as having the upper hand heading into the next general election. "We are expecting more to join us and it is likely only a matter of time," he told reporters after opening the 2025 Bersatu Indera Mahkota, Paya Besar, and Kuantan division annual conference. Khalib was representing PN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin at the event. Last week, Pahang Bersatu described the decision by Leong and Harvinder to join the party as a morale booster, highlighting Bersatu's openness to leaders from various ethnic backgrounds in pursuit of the people's agenda ahead of the general election. Meanwhile, Pahang Pas commissioner Datuk Rosli Abdul Jabar said that PN's door-to-door engagements during the "Jelajah PN Teraju Pahang" road tour transcend race and political differences. "We visit the homes of Umno members and engage with the Chinese and Indian communities, offering explanations on various matters. "When we meet with Chinese and Indian communities, we explain how PN governs in Kelantan and Terengganu. We want non-Malays to have a better understanding of what PN represents," he said.

AirAsia signs US$12.25 billion deal for 50 A321XLRs with rights for 20 more
PETALING JAYA: AirAsia Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Capital A Bhd, has signed a landmark agreement with Airbus valued at US$12.25 billion (RM51.75 billion) for 50 A321XLRs with rights for 20 more. With the agreement, the airline is taking a major step towards becoming the world's first low-cost narrow-body network carrier, anchored by its multi-hub strategy. The aircraft are scheduled for delivery from 2028 through 2032. Witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the agreement was signed in Paris on Friday between Capital A CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Airbus Commercial Aircraft CEO Christian Scherer. Fernandes, who is also adviser and steward of AirAsia Group, said: 'We pioneered low-cost travel in Asia – now we are taking it to the next level. AirAsia is on a transformative journey to become the world's first low-cost network carrier. This is about exponential growth, connecting geographies beyond Asean, and making flying even more democratic. 'We gave people in Asean the opportunity to explore Asia – now we want the world to see Asean, and Asean to see the world. The A321XLR and A321LR are the game-changers enabling this vision, and we are proud to lead the charge in making our world smaller. We can't wait to paint the skies even wider in red.' Scherer said: 'We are pleased to confirm this agreement, as AirAsia Group begins its next development chapter. Having resumed its growth trajectory, which we salute and support, the airline is creating solid fleet efficiencies, allowing global network expansion. The A321XLR unlocks new opportunities for AirAsia to launch non-stop flights linking primary and secondary cities all around the globe.' The next-generation A321XLRs will operate alongside AirAsia's all-Airbus fleet of A320 and A330 aircraft, supporting its long-term strategy to deliver connectivity across Asia and beyond, while maintaining a low-cost model through improved route economics, enhanced aircraft utilisation and fleet efficiency. AirAsia Group aims to carry 150 million guests annually by 2030, reaching a cumulative total of 1.5 billion guests since inception. The new fleet plays a pivotal role in this transformation. AirAsia's multi-aircraft strategy enables the airline to match capacity with demand, reduce fuel consumption and support a sustainable, cost-effective growth model in a highly competitive global landscape. The A321XLR offers up to 20% lower fuel burn per seat than the Airbus A321neo aircraft, significantly improving emissions performance and operating efficiency.

Investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said the mission's overall success reflects the foreign companies' continued confidence in Malaysia's investor-friendly policies. (Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Malaysia is expected to reap RM4 billion in potential investments and RM675 million in potential exports following the trade and investment mission to France led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on July 4. In a statement today, the investment, trade and industry ministry said Anwar met 40 representatives from France's industrial sector, with several companies expressing intention to invest in high-tech manufacturing, aerospace, renewable energy, tourism and hospitality, digital economy and sustainable infrastructure. 'As for potential exports, RM675 million was generated for high-impact sectors such as aerospace, automotive, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, digital economy, lifestyle and halal industries. 'These are sectors targeted under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) and the Green Investment Strategy,' it said. Miti said several companies also shared their intention to continue investing in Malaysia, driven by key factors such as a conducive, stable and dynamic investment ecosystem; encouraging global demand for Malaysian-made products; efficient domestic supply chains; a highly skilled workforce; and investor-friendly government policies. The delegation included the minister, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, and representatives from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade). Tengku Zafrul said the mission's overall success reflected the foreign companies' continued confidence in Malaysia's investor-friendly policies, supply chain ecosystem, competitiveness and economic growth potential. 'The investment and trade potential to be realised will also provide business opportunities for local companies, including small and medium enterprises, and more high-paying jobs for Malaysians. 'All these are key in driving our economic transformation agenda,' he said.
