The best shows to watch with the whole family these holidays
Here are a few of our tried and tested TV favourites to watch with the whole family. Modern Family. Credit: Supplied
Modern Family has become something of a modern classic in recent years. Though it began in 2009, all these years later the plots remain current, the characters still relatable, and it more than stands the test of time. It's a delight to watch the extended Pritchett family grow through 11 fabulous seasons — well worth a rewatch. Archibald's Next Big Thing is well worth a look. Credit: Supplied
You may not have heard of this delightful animation, all about a relentlessly optimistic chicken named Archibald and his family, but it should certainly be on your radar. Based on a book written by Arrested Development's Tony Hale, it stars the comedian as the central character and has a delightfully offbeat premise. A hidden gem! Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is streaming on Netflix. Credit: Supplied / TheWest
Not yet discovered these great Spider-Man spin-offs? Rectify this immediately! This film came out in 2023 as a sequel to 2018's incredibly popular — and incredibly clever — Into The Spider-Verse. Dare we say it: it might even be better. The animation is terrific, but the best part is the story: it's engaging from the get-go, for tweens, teens and adults alike. Good news: there's another film in the works. Cynthia Erivo is Elphaba and Ariana Grande is Glinda in Wicked. Credit: Giles Keyte/Universal Pictures / Universal Pictures
Wicked hit streaming just in time for the holidays — hooray! If you are one of those who missed it the first time around in the cinemas (guilty!), it's well worth a watch on the small screen. Before you dive in, head on over to Max, Binge or Apple TV Plus to watch the original film. It's amazing that at 85 years old, it still holds up. The perfect double-header. KPop Demon Hunters has taken the world by storm. Credit: Supplied / Netflix
It's hard to underestimate just how popular this original animated film is with young audiences — it's rocketed up the streaming charts, and is one of the world's most popular flicks for kids right now. It's so popular, in fact, that songs from the film's fictional band are racing up the US pop charts. They recently surpassed Blackpink as the highest-charting female K-pop group! If you've not yet checked out this latest season, now's the perfect time. We're getting to the pointy end of the competition and things are getting serious. This week sees the first group of dancers return to the floor for another chance to impress the judges. With Rebecca Gibney now out of the comp, the trophy is anyone's to win! Great fun for the whole family. The girls dress as The Grannies in a Bluey episode titled Ghostbasket. Credit: Supplied / TheWest
We couldn't have this list and not include Bluey — it's far and away the best thing on TV for kids. And let's face it, it's an absolute joy to watch as an adult as well. The best bit? You can 'set and forget' with this one, knowing your kids are well looked after by everyone's favourite Heeler family while you get those household jobs done. Wizz is front and centre in Do Not Watch This Show. Credit: Supplied / TheWest
Got small people in your lives? Chances are they own at least one of Andy Lee's children's books. This series has been reimagined for television, and it sees everyone's favourite blue monster Wizz getting up to all sorts of adventures with his mates: a lime, a kiwi, a tortoise and a scientist. Goofy good fun. Ginger And The Vegesaurs screens on ABC Kids. Credit: Supplied
Take a trip to Vegesaur Valley to hang with 'the juiciest and freshest creatures ever to rule the planet'. This locally produced series about a group of fruit and vegetable dinos is super popular here and in the UK, where it racked up 48 million views on BBC iPlayer, leading the British broadcaster to come onboard as a producing partner for subsequent seasons. Silly and sweet — your new favourite. Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical is coming to Apple TV Plus. Credit: Supplied.
This one's for all of us who grew up watching Charlie, Snoopy and the gang as kids. The classic cartoons are available to watch on Apple TV Plus, and it's heaps of fun to watch them again with your kids (who will probably be more than a little bemused by the decidedly lo-fi animation and simple plots). A new special, Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical, will hit screens on July 18.

Glam hip-hop artist to perform in Perth for the first time
Saweetie will grace Australia with her icy queen presence in two weeks, kicking off her debut tour in Perth with a one-night-only show. The 32-year-old US rapper, real name Diamonte Harper, is preparing to travel to the other side of the globe for her first Perth show on June 30 at Metros in Northbridge. She will also bring her signature style, viral hits and superstar energy to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney for shows during the first week of August. Fans can expect a stacked setlist featuring hit songs and fierce choreography. The Aussie tour comes as the My Type singer is set to drop new single Boffum on Friday — her first solo song for the year. Produced by hitmaker J. White Did It, the track features bold energy, clever wordplay, and a nod to Young Buck's early 2000s classic, Shorty Wanna Ride. In the visual teaser shared on social media, Saweetie struts in a white bikini and fur boots, confidently delivering lyrics that double down on her 'why choose when you can have both' mentality. Sean Young added: 'I have actual chills.' Known for transforming iconic tracks into modern hits, Saweetie has become known for putting her original spin on classic songs, like she did with My Type and Tap In. Perhaps there is more Saweetie magic on the way after she told Call Her Daddy earlier this year that her debut project will land in 2025. 'I feel like I finally know myself,' she said. 'I felt like I was constantly in this weird transition phase… like, 'What am I even talking about?'' Saweetie rose to fame in 2017 after she began posting videos online of herself freestyling old-school rap beats in her car. After her freestyle over Khia's 2002 hit My Neck, My Back (Lick It) went viral, her persona 'ICY GRL' was born. She released a studio version with an official music video in October 2017 which has since amassed more than 20 million views. Tickets to her Perth show are still available for $89.90 and can be purchased here.

Prince Harry to meet with King Charles for peace talks 'within weeks' as Prince William completely erased from secret discussions
Prince Harry could finally meet with King Charles for peace talks "within weeks", but Prince William is said to be completely erased from the reconciliation plans. The Duke of Sussex, 40, is ready to speak with his father after approving the peace summit meeting between their royal aides, The Sun reported. It comes as Buckingham Palace recently agreed to a proposal for an "open channel of communication" between Harry and Charles, according to the publication. Harry's chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, and UK-based PR representative Liam Maguire were on Wednesday photographed meeting with the King's top aide, Communications Secretary Tobyn Andreae, at the Royal Over-Seas League, just around the corner from Clarence House. 'The meeting was with Harry's blessing," a source told The Sun. Talks were reportedly centred around forging a path toward ending the longstanding family conflict between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family. A proposal for Harry to return to life as a working royal was not made, and the Prince of Wales's team was notably not included. It's understood Harry's team made no contact with William prior to the discussion, and an invitation for the face-to-face meeting was not sent. In the wide-ranging conversation, Harry and the King's aides reportedly mapped out a way to avoid media clashes and scheduling conflicts. Harry is next due to travel to the UK in September for the WellChild Awards in London, with the King expected to be in Balmoral at the time. The Duke's ever-likely reconciliation with his father marks a major milestone in the convoluted royal family feud. Harry in May confirmed he was no longer on speaking terms with the royals in a rogue interview, telling the BBC: "The King won't speak to me'. In the same interview, the renegade royal nevertheless openly declared he "would love a reconciliation" with his family. Speaking to Sky News Australia's The Royal Report on Sunday, entertainment reporter said Harry's BBC interview was likely motivation for the aide meeting to occur just weeks later. "It perhaps served as that impetus for them to all get together," Coy said. "(To) get in the same room and start saying, 'How are we going to end this for good?'" Harry and Meghan Markle elaborated on their issues with the royal family during their 2021 Oprah Winfrey Netflix series in which they claimed to have been mistreated by the firm. The Wales' five years later reportedly opted not to tell the Sussexes about Kate's cancer diagnosis until shortly before the public for fear Harry and Meghan would leak the news. has contacted Buckingham Place and the Sussexes representatives for comment.
