American Brian Tarrence missing in Turks and Caicos. What to know about his disappearance.
Brian Tarrence disappeared there on June 25 while on vacation with his wife Maria.
Police in Turks and Caicos are appealing for help in finding him.
Brian Tarrence last seen on surveillance video
The tropical paradise is more typically known as a place where vacation memories are made. Now, it's home to a mystery.
"If he was robbed, by now I think I would have seen a credit card charge, or found his wallet, or found him, you know," Carl DeFazio said.
DeFazio is retired NYPD. He works as a private investigator in Turks, and was hired to help find Tarrence.
Surveillance video shows Tarrance, 51, walking away from the Paradise Inn around 3:30 a.m. Police scoured the area, but haven't located the missing man.
"You know, in the area that he's at, it's not remote. It's not desolate. It's businesses, thriving, all day and all night long," DeFazio said. "We usually are able to gather information but it's like he disappeared, we're trying to figure it out. I have nothing to point to criminality at this point, though."
"We are deeply concerned"
Tarrence and his wife of one year recently moved to a building on West 42nd Street in Manhattan. Before that, they shared a townhome in Monroe in Orange County. Baudlaire Theagene was his neighbor.
"Nice guy, very pleasant, always polite to people," Theagene said. "Quiet guy."
Tarrence is a vice president at Diligent Software.
"We are deeply concerned about our team member, Brian Tarrence, who has been reported missing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brian and his loved ones during this extremely difficult time," the company said in a statement. "We have made ourselves available to fully cooperate with local law enforcement and have engaged a security firm to support the ongoing search efforts. The safety and well-being of our employees is always our top priority, and we are doing everything we can to assist in the efforts to locate Brian."

Lawsuits dredge up messy NYPD era under Eric Adams as he begins reelection bid
One of Essig's deputies, Christopher McCormack, similarly alleged in a separate suit that he was retaliated against after rejecting some of the candidates proffered by close aides to Adams. He also named Banks, the former deputy mayor for public safety, in his complaint. Those picks, who McCormack found to be unqualified, were eventually placed on elite teams anyway. One candidate allegedly referred by Banks told McCormack he wanted into the 'El Dorado' unit tasked with investigating money laundering because the name 'sounded cool,' according to the lawsuit. McCormack found the applicant to be unqualified. Banks' pick allegedly made it onto the team anyway. Each of the complainants included a monetary angle to their grievances. After each of them left city service, City Hall gave managerial staff at the NYPD a pay hike they missed out on. The suits are just the latest reminder of the chaos that reigned at the department under Adams and the unresolved criminal investigations into some of his closest and most loyal aides that could come back to bite him on the stump. Caban, for example, is reportedly being probed for a pay-to-play scheme involving promotions — a probe that was referenced in one of the suits. He was also being eyed by authorities for an alleged kickback scheme involving his twin brother and security at New York City nightclubs. Maddrey was forced to resign after reports that he sexually assaulted an underling and gave her overtime in exchange. And Banks had his phone taken by federal agents as part of a wide-ranging probe last year. Mayoral spokesperson Kayla Mamelak Altus said the city would review the lawsuits filed Monday and defended the integrity of the NYPD, which is now led by Commissioner Jessica Tisch. 'The Adams administration holds all city employees — including leadership at the NYPD — to the highest standards, and our work at the department speaks for itself: crime continues to topple month after month both above and below ground, with our city seeing the lowest number of shootings in recorded history,' she said in a statement. 'That is no coincidence — it's thanks to the Adams administration's laser focus on public safety.' Adams is running in the general election on an independent ballot line after dropping out of the Democratic primary amid a now-defunct criminal bribery case. He has been touting decreases in major crimes — though has POLITICO has reported, the overall picture is much more complicated — and has cast himself as the candidate needed to keep the city on the right track. The lawsuits filed Monday, movement in any of the state or federal investigations, or new allegations of malfeasance could easily become cannon fodder for his opponents, who include Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, fellow independent candidates Andrew Cuomo and Jim Walden, and GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa. The mayor's management record could become an especially potent line of attack for the more moderate hopefuls whose politics — and in the case of Cuomo, his base of Black voters — overlap with Adams.

Owner of pit bulls who allegedly mauled Penny the Chihuahua nearly mows down pedestrians: court docs
The on-the-lam owner of two pit bulls accused of mauling Penny the Chihuahua nearly plowed down a slew of pedestrians and a sheriff during a high-speed chase to evade capture, court documents reveal. The next day, June 24, a high-school principal helped sneak scofflaw Joseph Columbus out of his kid's graduation ceremony to avoid arrest, a sheriff's deputy claims — and the suspect remains in the wind. 6 Pit-bull owner Joseph Columbus is accused of nearly mowing over pedestrians and playing chicken with a sheriff's cruiser to evade arrest, court docs show. Luiz C. Ribeiro for New York Post Advertisement 'At this juncture, we have no idea where he is or where the dogs are, which to me is really disturbing,' Manhattan Supreme Court judge Phaedra Perry-Bond said as she issued a warrant for Columbus' arrest at a hearing last month. Columbus, whose pit bulls allegedly attacked Penny on the Upper West Side in May — and killed a shih tzu mix earlier this year — is being sued by the owners of the poor pooches who claim he is harboring 'dangerous' animals. Perry-Bond, a civil-court judge, signed an arrest warrant for Columbus on June 13 after he ditched multiple hearings and ignored her judicial orders to turn over his two dogs, Rambo and Zooey, to the NYPD. Advertisement On June 23, authorities thought they had finally caught up with him, according to city Sheriff's Deputy Jorge Espinal. 6 A pair of other dog owners is suing Columbus, claiming he is harboring dangerous animals. WCBS-TV The deputy said he saw Columbus 'violate numerous vehicle traffic laws' while behind the wheel of a black Jeep Cherokee with Massachusetts plates in the Big Apple that day, and the law-enforcement official attempted to pull him over, according to a sworn affidavit. Espinal's account of what happened next echoed the maxim that there are no bad dogs — only bad owners. Advertisement 6 The attack on Penny the Chihuahua has inspired a state bill deemed 'Penny's Law' that would hold pet owners criminally liable for dangerous dogs. Gabriella Bass Columbus sped off from the traffic stop, 'willfully disregarding multiple red traffic signals and driving onto public sidewalks to maneuver around traffic, causing numerous pedestrians to jump out of the way to avoid being struck,' Espinal said. The scofflaw's driving was so dangerous that Espinal said he was forced to end his pursuit of him to prevent the public from being harmed. Roughly an hour later, officers then found Columbus driving in East Harlem and attempted to block the Jeep using their cruiser. Advertisement 6 Lauren Claus, the co-owner of 10-year-old rescue dog Penny, says the pooch's medical bills have exceeded $10,000. Gabriella Bass But Columbus again refused to comply and 'accelerated directly towards the officer's vehicle,' the affidavit said, calling the move 'an intentional attempt to ram it.' After again driving on the sidewalk to weave around traffic, Columbus zoomed off, authorities said. Officers caught up with him again in East Harlem the next day — at his child's high-school graduation — when they found the Jeep parked outside Manhattan Center High School, Espinal said. While the school's principal confirmed to the sheriff that Columbus was there for the event, the affidavit claimed that the education official 'knowingly help [sic] defendant evade apprehension by escorting defendant through back [sic] exit of the school.' 6 An Acura that Columbus was seen entering after the May 3 attack on Penny has 64 speeding tickets and more than 80 parking tickets since 2021, records show. NYSCEF According to public records, the Jeep Cherokee that Columbus had been allegedly driving racked up four school-zone speeding tickets on the day of the initial pursuit. A white Acura that Columbus was seen getting into after the May 3 attack on Penny the chihuahua has 64 speeding tickets — plus more than 80 parking tickets — since 2021, records show. Advertisement 'We don't want him endangering pedestrians or the public,' said Mollie Swears, the lawyer for the two dog owners suing Columbus. 'We want him to turn himself in so the case can proceed.' 6 Claus leads a 'Justice for Penny' rally. William Farrington At the last hearing, June 17 — where Columbus and his lawyer were no-shows — the judge tore into the at-large owner for thumbing his nose at the court. Advertisement 'He shouldn't have to come in with a warrant,' Perry-Bond said. 'He is choosing to not come in. He is choosing to not surrender the dogs.' A message sent to the principal's Department of Education email address was not answered. Columbus' lawyer also did not respond.

Bizarre swimming pool on NYC street dismantled leaving local hearts drained
The pool party's over. A rogue streetside swimming pool in the Bronx was apparently dismantled by its makers Monday after drawing attention from the NYPD, angry neighbors said. A TikTok video shows a group of men dismantling the makeshift pool outside a Mount Hope Place building. Advertisement 'I don't know why they took it down, but I think it was the cops who told them,' a puzzled woman who lives in the building said Tuesday. 'I mean it was fun for the kids.' Advertisement 4 Locals dismantled the pool Monday. @josh_glo0/TikTok The massive street pool was erected by longtime block resident Kenny Perez, an ex-city lifeguard, for his son's birthday, The Post first reported Monday. His creation — which he made from $2,000 worth of materials scrounged from Facebook Marketplace — was an instant hit in the summer heat. Videos showing the surreal sight of a giant swimming pool just off a New York City street — with smiling children frolicking and daredevils plunging into it from a building's scaffolding — drew millions of views online. Advertisement 4 The pool drew happy kids and millions of online video hits during its short life. Tomas E. Gaston 4 NYPD cops received numerous complaints about the pool since July 4, officials said. Tomas E. Gaston 4 Little remained of the pool Tuesday after locals took it down. Matthew McDermott But the NYPD fielded numerous complaints since July 4, police said. Advertisement Cops asked residents to drain the 'illegal swimming pool' during the holiday, but it was quickly refilled, NYPD officials said. After repeated warnings, NYPD officials requested Monday that the city's sanitation workers remove the pool once and for all. Locals, however, seem to have beaten the city to the punch — and some blamed The Post's exclusive report on the pool for its demise, despite the days of complaints to the NYPD. 'The f—king New York Post got it shut down,' one irate man ranted. Additional reporting by Nicole Rosenthal
