Deepening Cambodian Muslim bonds on Aidil Adha
PHNOM PENH: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet lauded the country's minority Muslim community for their contribution to nation-building.
In his special greetings to the Muslims on the occasion of Aidil Adha, the prime minister emphasised their invaluable contribution in fostering racial harmony across the Kingdom.
"On behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia, my wife (Pich Chanmony) and I congratulate and wish success, happiness and prosperity to all our Muslim brothers and sisters in Cambodia and abroad, as well as Muslim brothers and sisters around the world, happily welcoming the Hari Raya Haji.
"And thanks to our Cambodian Muslim brothers and sisters who have participated in maintaining the peace with Cambodian citizens with religious and ethnic harmony in accordance with the policies of the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia,' Manet said in his Facebook Posting Saturday (June 7).
About 800,000 Cambodian Muslims joined the global Muslim community in celebrating Aidil Adha on Saturday.
Muslims make up about five per cent of the 17 million Cambodian population, which is predominantly Buddhist.
Manet also greeted those who conducted their Haj pilgrimage to Mecca this year.
"Wish all our brothers and sisters who are performing haj duties in Saudi Arabia and Muslim brothers who are enjoying the gathering with their relatives and relatives,' he said.
About 1,200 Cambodian Muslims performed their haj pilgrimage this year. - Bernama

Such action is deplorable and goes against the principles of Islamic faith,' he said. He reminded Muslims to be cautious in their practices and not to follow actions that have no basis in Islamic law, especially those that could lead to beliefs or behaviours that contradict tenets of the Islamic faith. Mohd Na'im stressed that the act of taking soil from a grave and applying it to one's face with the belief that it brings blessings or possesses certain powers violates the boundaries of Islamic law. 'I support the firm yet respectful approach taken by Nurly Shahirah's family in handling this issue, as well as the efforts of the religious authorities in monitoring burial grounds. This is in line with the government's ongoing efforts to combat superstitious practices and strengthen the Islamic faith among Muslims in the country,' he said. He called on Muslims to pray for Nurly Shahirah's soul to be blessed with mercy and that her family be granted strength and patience in facing this trial. According to media reports, Nurly Shahirah's family was forced to put up a barrier around her grave at the Kampung Gong Pasir Muslim Cemetery in Kerandang, Terengganu, following actions by certain individuals who engaged in acts of shirk and superstition at the site. Nurly Shahirah, 23, a hafizah (Quran memoriser), was one of the 15 Universiti Perguruan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students who perished in a tragic bus accident in Gerik early this month.

Govt Will Continue To Enhance Defence In Sabah

Expanded SST will not affect most parents with kids at private kindergartens
KUALA LANGAT: The expansion of the Sales and Services Tax (SST) will not have a significant impact on parents who send their children to private nurseries, kindergartens or preschools, says Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri. The Women, Family and Community Development Minister said this was because the service tax would only apply to schools imposing annual tuition fees exceeding RM60,000 per student. "The public need not worry as it is understood that most private institutions currently do not charge fees that reach the RM60,000 threshold," she told reporters after the Anjung Sinar 2025 Programme appreciation ceremony here on Sunday (June 29). Nancy also reminded entrepreneurs not to capitalise on efforts to strengthen the country's fiscal position and broaden the tax base in ways that would burden parents. "We hope they (business operators) will act honestly to help parents so that they are able to work. Operators must also remember that people need their services, so do not charge excessively," she said. The 6% service tax, which will be imposed from July 1 on educational services including private preschools and schools, will not apply to Malaysian citizens with disabilities. At the programme, Nancy presented awards to five outstanding icons of the Anjung Sinar Programme by Yayasan Kebajikan Negara, representing the education, leadership, community, career and volunteer categories.
