Fundraisers run half marathon in heatwave to raise money for south Essex charity
A south Essex charity has praised the team at Pro Global for raising more than £2,000 following a half marathon event.
Havens hospices has thanked the firm for their "amazing" efforts in completing the Wimbledon Half Marathon.
Despite challenging heat, the runners pushed through to raise £1,265, with Pro Global's charity committee generously adding an extra £1,000.
The funds will support Havens hospices in providing specialist care for individuals of all ages with incurable conditions across south Essex.
A spokesman for Havens Hospices said: 'We'd like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the amazing team at Pro Global who took on the Wimbledon Half Marathon last weekend, in support of Havens hospices.
"We're so grateful to everyone at Pro Global who supported this fundraising effort.
"Your hard work and generosity will help us continue to make every day count for families when they need us most.'

Great-grandson fights to honour Southampton football hero
A great-grandson is fighting to see a Saints legend recognised in football history. Ted Drake, the Southampton-born striker who became an Arsenal legend, has narrowly missed out on entry to the National Football Museum's Hall of Fame in Manchester. Liam, who put forward the nomination, said: "It's really disappointing that my Great Grandfather was denied nomination into the Footballers Hall of Fame. "He is arguably one of the greatest players to play the game in his time alongside the likes of Stanley Matthews, Alex James, Nat Lofthouse etc who are all in the Hall of Fame where he belongs also. "He inspired millions of people and no man since has scored more goals in an English top-flight game of football. He will automatically be considered again during the next round of nominations in October. During his time at Arsenal, Drake set several records, including scoring seven goals in a single top-flight match on December 14, 1935. Advertisement He remains Arsenal's fastest player to reach 100 goals, achieving the milestone in just 108 games. He also holds the record for most goals in a single season for the club, with 44. After injury ended his playing career, Drake moved into management and led Chelsea to their first league title in 1955. He became the first person to win the English top flight as both a player and a manager. Liam has dedicated much of this year to preserving his great-grandfather's legacy. In February, he worked with Arsenal to install a memorial plaque at Highbury, where Drake's ashes have rested since 1995. He hopes that Drake, currently Arsenal's fifth-highest all-time goalscorer with 139 goals, will be recognised in the next round of Hall of Fame nominations.

'Perfect transition' - Lambert backs Lallana to 'become an excellent coach'
LEGEND Rickie Lambert has backed Adam Lallana to become "an excellent coach" after his permanent appointment to Southampton's coaching staff. Lallana, 37, has joined Will Still's backroom team as first-team coach following his playing retirement at the end of the 2024/25 season. Advertisement The academy graduate made nearly 300 appearances for Southampton, returning for an ill-fated campaign before hanging up his boots. Lambert, who dubbed his former England teammate Lallana "the best player I've played with", thinks the ex-midfielder is making the "perfect transition". Speaking on BBC Radio Solent, Lambert recalled a meeting dictated by Lallana, which saw Saints turn around their poor Premier League form. Asked what leadership skills stood out most in his time with Lallana, Lambert explained: 'The determination not to lose and the courage to speak out when needed. He had an excellent football brain. There was one moment in particular, going into the Premier League. 'We were struggling to get a point on the board, and we had a meeting. It went on for two hours, but it was the best thing that ever happened to us. 'We went out of that meeting with clarity, which we all needed, and then we started to pick up points. That's what he's capable of.' He added: 'I think he will go on now and become an excellent coach. If you lose the identity of your team, you are in trouble. 'The way he planned his last couple of years, getting closer to home and then finishing at Southampton, sounded perfect for me. 'He got a little taste for coaching last year, which would have given him a real taste of it. It's a perfect transition going into coaching at his beloved Saints."

Netball: Highbrow maintain perfect record with comeback win
Highbrow (bluebibs) have now won all 12 of their league games this season (Image: Kevin Frampton) PREMIER Division leaders Highbrow Skin & Laser Clinic stormed to their 13th win of the season in the South & West Dorset Netball League. The Highbrow Skin & Laser Clinic beat McCarthy Stone 45-24 as the continue their dominance of the division Advertisement It was a tightly contested first quarter as both teams [layed well with end to end action seeing both teams score. Highbrow's C Laura Austin made some sharp passes to her teammates, whilst McCarthy's GA Carragh Watt and GS Camillia Assirati made some great shots to help their team take an early lead. McCarthy's mid court play stepped up to control the flow of the game and they created some excellent opportunities for their shooters to score. Highbrow's GD Jayne Guppy and GK Jane Dunford made some quick interceptions and with smart positioning were able to turnover the ball which slowed McCarthy's momentum, although the scores were close but it was Highbrow who led at the end of the second quarter. Highbrow launched a powerful come back with their shooters finding a great rhythm, mid court players were able to convert the ball and with precision to feed to the shooters and this kept McCarthy's defence busy. Advertisement Highbrow extended their lead in the final quarter as their defence disrupted McCarthy's flow and romped to victory to make it 12 from 12. Elsewhere in the Premier Division Wagamama's kept their good form going with a crushing 70-31 win over Coastal Cheese. Wagamamas started well with their C Marcie Przybysz making some lovely feeds into GA Sammy Whisker who didn't miss. Coastal's WA Millie Simmons made some lovely overhead feeds into GS Sam Shewbridge and GA Laura Cox, but it was Wagamamas who held the lead. Wagamamas continued their strong play through the court with GA Sammy Whisker working hard to feed the ball to GS Laura Gardner who made some brilliant shots. Advertisement Coastal fought back with some long shots from GS Sam Shewbridge but Wagamamas held the lead Coastal's GA Laura Cox continued her strong accurate shooting to close the gap, although Wagamamas GD Becky Cousens made some incredible high jumps to intercept the ball to maintain their lead. Coastal kept fighting with excellent feeds into the shooters by their WA Millie Simmonds but Wagamamas proved too much in the end. Third placed Buglers pipped NewBody Fitness 35-30 whilst The Veterans Hub defeated Taddle Farm Tents in the other games on Thursday night. It was much of the same in Division One for Gungho Wildcats beating The Waterloo 69-26 to stay top whilst Kooky Bloom recorded back-to-back wins with a 31-29 win over Team Waikiki. Advertisement Warmer Home Improvements Lightning beat Joe Newton Electrical 55-46 and First Fit Windows conceded to Artifex Krakens in the other games. On to Division Two and Vibes Dorchester claimed their first win of the season with a 49-38 win over WJNC Waves. Leaders WJNC Warriors beat Dream Digital 70-27, Dorchester Netball club moved up to second with a 67-19 victory over The Marlboro and Zest beat Artifex Calypso in the final game.
