The greatest film in the galaxy.
'Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back' is 45 years old today – and Billy Dee Williams couldn't be prouder to have starred in such a ground-breaking piece of cinema
'Working on 'The Empire Strikes Back' was like stepping into a dream — an adventure in every sense,' the 88-year-old actor who played Lando Calrissian exclusively told The Post.

'George Lucas, Irvin Kershner, and the entire team created a world so rich and real that it was impossible not to get swept away,' Williams added. 'I knew it was something special even then, but none of us could have predicted the lasting impact it would have.'

Williams made his 'Star Wars' debut in the 1980 film directed by Kershner (who died in 2010) with a story by Lucas, 81.
Upon its release, 'The Empire Strikes Back' got mixed reviews from critics and fans, many of whom complained about the film's dark tone that culminated in the bad guys winning in the end.

But after many years, 'The Empire Strikes Back' became universally considered the best 'Star Wars' movie ever.

'Forty-five years later, 'The Empire Strikes Back' still resonates because it's not just about battles and starships — it's about friendship, sacrifice, and hope,' Williams told The Post. 'To be part of a story that has inspired generations is a humbling honor. I feel the love from fans every day, and it never gets old.'

In the film, Lando initially betrays his longtime pal Han Solo (Harrison Ford), before he has a change of heart and backstabs the Empire — and thus secures fan-favorite status.

'Lando was, and still is, a trailblazer,' said Williams. 'He showed audiences that charm, complexity, and courage could live in one man.'

Williams added: 'I always approached him with a sense of dignity and fun, and I'm proud that after all these years, Lando still holds such a beloved place in the galaxy.'

Editor Paul Hirsch exclusively told The Post that working on the film is still one of his greatest achievements in his career.
'I was on the picture for 14 months, during which time I was on location in London and in Marin County, where my son was born,' said Hirsch, who wrote about 'The Empire Strikes Back' in his 2019 book 'A Long Time Ago in a Cutting Room Far, Far Away.'

'I had innumerable memorable experiences during that time,' Hirsch added, 'so to pick out a single memory would be impossible.'

Despite its success, 'The Empire Strikes Back' infamously faced numerous production difficulties.

Additionally, several actors got hurt on set including Mark Hamill, who was in a severe car accident that caused facial injuries. That forced the film's creators to include a scene where Luke Skywalker is attacked by a Wampa on Hoth.

There were also financing problems as the film's initial budget of $8 million rose to over $30 million. The movie ultimately made over $540 million at the worldwide box office.

Hirsch told The Post that his job as editor wasn't impacted by the production issues.
Speaking about the film's legacy, Hirsch said, 'The initial release of a film is like its birth. Some grow up and lead long lives and achieve success later on. I have worked on a few that were total flops at first, but are now considered cult classics.'

In a rare interview with StarWars.com in 2020, Lucas looked back on making 'The Empire Strikes Back.'
'It wasn't the most fun movie to make, but it was definitely a rewarding film,' he said. 'It turned out well. I learned some things.'

WNBA reality TV: Minnesota Lynx 'Stud Budz' live stream dominated All-Star weekend

INDIANAPOLIS — Walking the halls in the bowels of the Gainbridge Fieldhouse before the WNBA All-Star Game Saturday, Minnesota Lynx guard Natisha Hiedeman was omnipresent. One half of the "Stud Budz," Hiedeman and her Lynx teammate Courtney Williams — who both have pink hair —started a live stream on Twitch a couple of months ago and spent All-Star weekend giving the fans a behind-the-scenes look at the W. Their Twitch bio describes the stream as "just two Stud Budz who hoop and live our best life." "It really started off as two friends, we knew about Twitch, and said, 'Let's just start streaming,'" Hiedeman said, not pausing the stream to do an interview with USA TODAY Studio IX. "It's a platform that's unique, that really no one in the W has touched, so we was like, 'Let's be the first ones.'" Williams, playing on Team Collier, said the 72-hour All-Star stream has been eye-opening. "We are so surprised, honestly, we did not know how much love we'd be getting," Williams said. "I think people just love getting that behind the scenes, being so authentic, seeing players mess with us." There were close to 15,000 people streaming the duo as they made their way through Indianapolis this weekend. All-Star captains Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier talked to Hiedeman about the Twitch stream before their pregame media availability on Saturday. "How does your phone not overheat?" Clark asked. Then she copped to being a fangirl. "I was watching the live stream all last night, downstairs on my TV." Team Collier's Angel Reese said the authenticity of the Stud Budz is what sets the content apart. "It's like a reality TV show with them," Reese, a member of the Chicago Sky, said. "They have made it the best. No matter where we are, what party we at, the players made the weekend what it is and you really enjoy the moment because it's so much fun. "Getting to know everyone off the court. You're battling all year, it's competition, but just being able to build relationships has been great. I am happy for what they are doing, I hope they continue to do it and make some money." The best moment of All-Star weekend? "Not a favorite moment, but Stud Budz has been the highlight of, I think, everybody's weekend," Collier said. Hiedeman said the sky is the limit now that their brand has been unleashed."We going to be at the Grammys, ESPYs, what other live events?" Hiedeman said. "Paris fashion week, the Met Gala — anything big and, like a good time, if it's fun and live, call us and we will be there."

AMERICAN FORK, Utah — Beneath the dusty green of the midsummer mountains, Shay Martin cradled her infant daughter — not quite two months old — and leaned in to kiss the smooth wood of her husband's casket. A joyful constellation of Star Wars stickers — tiny stormtroopers, droids, Princess Leias — placed by family and friends covered the surface. Nearby, a harpist threaded together hymns with music from the film series' beloved score.

Acclaimed conductor Roger Norrington dead at 91

Roger Norrington, a conductor acclaimed for historically informed performances during more than a half-century leading orchestras in Europe and the United States, has died. He was 91. Norrington died Friday at his home, his son Tom said Saturday. Norrington lived outside Exeter, England. Norrington conducted both period-instruments and modern orchestras, asking both types to play without vibrato and usually at faster tempi than modern practice. He made things happen emotionally,' Myron Lutzke, an Orchestra of St. Luke's cellist who helped persuade Norrington to become music director, said Saturday. 'He had his detractors, certainly, and some of them were some of my best friends. But for me, he got the music off the page. He made the concert experience transformative.' Born on March 16, 1934, Norrington was the son of Arthur, president of Trinity College, Oxford, and the former Edith Carver. A violinist and boy soprano in his youth, Roger attended The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Dragon School, Westminster School, Cambridge and the Royal College of Music, where he studied under conductor Adrian Boult. Advertisement In 1962, Norrington founded the Schütz Choir, originally dedicated to the works of Heinrich Schütz. He became music director of Kent Opera from 1969-84, the Bournemouth Sinfonietta from 1985-89 and New York's Orchestra of St. Luke's from 1990-94. He was principal conductor of Camerata Salzburg from 1997 to 2006, the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1998 to 2011 and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra from 2011-16. 3 Prince Charles, Prince of Wales with conductor Sir Roger Norrington after awarding him Doctor of Music as he attends the Royal College of Music's music awards awards on March 10, 2016 in London, England. Smoking is now going, so maybe vibrato will too. … I have discovered, all the way from Monteverdi to Mahler, is that when music is played as it should be, the sound is wonderful, the expression is wonderful and the instruments match together.' Advertisement Norrington was nominated for four Grammy Awards and won in 2001 for a recording of Nicholas Maw's Violin Concerto with Joshua Bell and the London Philharmonic. Norrington retired after conducting the Royal Northern Sinfonia in an all-Hadyn concert on Nov. 18, 2021. 'I have enjoyed every minute of over 50 years of making music with some of the most wonderful and talented musicians in the world,' he said in a statement.
