No respite is expected as scattered rain activity is likely over the next few days.
According to the
India Meteorological Department
, the maximum temperature on Friday rose to 36.9 degrees Celsius. Coupled with high humidity, the 'feel-like temperatures' pushed discomfort levels even higher, making outdoor conditions unpleasant. The heat index was 47.1 degrees Celsius on Friday at 2.30 pm compared to 45.9 degrees Celsius on Thursday at the same time.
The minimum temperature settl ed at 28 degrees Celsius.
"There is a possibility of very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning from Saturday to Monday," said a Met official.

Delhi's air quality, meanwhile, deteriorated to the 'moderate' category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 136. It was 91 in the 'satisfactory' category the previous day. According to the Air Quality Early Warning System, the air quality is likely to remain in the 'moderate' category till Sunday and it may turn 'satisfactory' on Monday.

Vijayawada has been experiencing heavy rain for the past two days due to a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal, near Kolkata. Several low-lying areas in the city have been submerged, triggering the fear of flooding among the residents. But the situation in Visakhapatnam is completely different. It has not received even 10 mm of rain, indicating that the low-pressure system has no effect on the Port City. Explaining the reasons behind the weather phenomenon, S. Karuna Sagar, a scientist with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at its Amaravati centre, said, 'The rainfall associated with the low-pressure systems depends on the wind direction. Generally, the outer bands of the low-pressures and the troughs connected to the system play a key role in rainfall activity.' The low-pressure system formed in the Bay of Bengal, near Kolkata, travelled towards South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, via South Odisha and Chhattisgarh, and its trough also passed over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh. 'Therefore, the region, including Vijayawada, has received heavy rainfall, causing submersion of the low-lying areas,' he said. 'Only when the wind direction comes from the sea (Bay of Bengal) towards the North Coastal region will areas such as Visakhapatnam city have higher chances of heavy rainfall. The hills surrounding the Port City are also a reason, because the hills usually stop the low tropical winds. These factors can be some of the reasons behind the lack of rainfall activity in Visakhapatnam. Moreover, there will be no wet weather conditions for Visakhapatnam, and or formations of low-pressure systems over the sea for the next week. This means, no rainfall. The city may experience dry, clear sky conditions,' Mr. Karuna Sagar told The Hindu on Sunday (July 27). This weather pattern is a cause for worry for the residents, as drinking water crisis loom large with the groundwater level plummeting due to lack of rainfall during the southwest monsoon season. Due to depletion of water in the borewells and lack of proper municipal water supply, the residents, especially apartment dwellers, in the areas such as PM Palem are relying on water tankers. 'We are spending ₹5,000 to ₹8,000 per day for water tankers as the water level in our borewell has gone down due to lack of rainfall,' says B. Rambabu, an apartment resident. The groundwater levels in the State have recently shown a mixed trend. While the levels have increased in some districts, it has seen a decline in other areas. Some areas have seen an improvement due to heavy rainfall, especially in Rayalaseema, while other areas, especially those with high groundwater use, have experienced a decline. 'Rainfall patterns, groundwater use, and the type of geological formations play a key role in determining groundwater levels,' says Ch. Durga Rao, a geologist.

Delhi weather: IMD predicts rains, thunderstorms in NCR today
The India Meteorological Department issued a heavy rain warning in parts of Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh on July 28 and 29 July. In its July 27 bulletin, the IMD had predicted 'Generally cloudy sky. Light to moderate rain accompanied with thunderstorm/lightning" on these two days. As per the IMD forecast, Delhi may witness light rainfall till Jul 31. On Monday, July 28, the maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are likely to be in the range of 33 to 35°C and 26 to 28°C, respectively, the IMD said. They are likely to be recorded at 29 to 31°C and 23 to 25 °C on July 29, Tuesday. Earlier on Sunday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius, which is 2.6 notches above the seasonal average, according to the IMD. The minimum temperature was recorded at 28.8 degrees Celsius, which is 1.5 notches above normal. Along with Delhi, areas in the national capital region (NCR) including Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram may also witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms. A similar weather pattern is likely to continue for this entire week, till Saturday, August 2, 2025 with no heatwave in sight. Beside, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over Northeast India on July 28 with a fresh spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to commence during August 1 and 3. Extremely heavy rainfall are also likely to occur at isolated places in parts of Rajasthan on Monday "with very heavy rainfall during 29th-31st July." Extremely heavy falls (≥21 cm) have already been recorded at isolated places over ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, East Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka, interior Tamil Nadu and Assam.
