IBM and The Hindu launch 'AI@Work' to accelerate enterprise
The initiative positions AI not as an emerging technology but as a core enabler of innovation, efficiency, and sectoral reinvention. Focusing on Manufacturing and Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI), AI@Work will present real-world examples of AI-driven change and explore the transition from '+AI' – where AI is added to legacy systems – to 'AI+', where AI is embedded into the heart of business processes.
'Data is your most powerful asset, but only when harnessed effectively,' said Tuhina Pandey, Director – APAC Communications & CMO, India and South Asia, IBM. 'With 99% of enterprise data untouched by AI, there's a massive opportunity for Indian businesses to unlock value, especially through unstructured data. Our partnership with The Hindu aims to turn this untapped potential into real-world progress.'
A key highlight of the campaign is the use of IBM's advanced AI and data platform, WatsonX, which has already been deployed internally at IBM to improve efficiency and redirect cost savings into innovation. As 'Client Zero,' IBM not only advocates for but actively demonstrates responsible, scalable AI adoption.
AI@Work will roll out through a dynamic content series comprising expert roundtables, panel discussions, and sector-specific company profiles. The initiative will delve deep into how AI is influencing decision-making, transforming workflows, and reshaping leadership approaches across enterprises.
The campaign will culminate in a comprehensive e-book featuring actionable insights, strategic frameworks, and sector-specific roadmaps for Indian enterprises looking to scale AI adoption responsibly.
Suresh Balakrishna, Chief Revenue Officer, The Hindu Group, emphasized, 'This initiative uniquely merges The Hindu's editorial integrity with IBM's technological leadership. It will foster industry-centric dialogue on AI's role in shaping India's business and social landscape.'

Government allows cab aggregators to hike peak-hour surge prices
NEW DELHI: The government on Tuesday gave more headroom to vehicle aggregators such as Uber, Ola, inDrive and Rapido on surge pricing. In a set of guidelines on ride-hailing services, the road transport ministry allowed aggregators to charge up to twice the base fare, as against 1.5 times earlier, while leaving the non-peak hour charges at not less than 50% of the base fare. States have been advised to adopt the revised guidelines within three months. The idea is to ensure that consumers are not burdened during periods of surge in traffic, while ensuring that aggregators do not undercut competition by offering steep discounts. On cancellation of a booking by a driver after accepting a journey on the app, a penalty of 10% of the fare, with a cap of Rs 100, will be imposed when the ride is cancelled without a specified reason. Such a penalty will be split between the driver and the aggregator. Similarly, when a passenger cancels a booking on the app, a similar fee will be collected. Aggregators have been mandated to ensure that drivers have health and term insurance of at least Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, respectively. The new guidelines specify that state govts will notify the base fare for different categories of vehicles, including auto-rickshaws and bike taxis, which have been brought under the ambit of the policy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo For example, while the base fare for taxi in Delhi and Mumbai are in the range of Rs 20-21 a km, in Pune it is Rs 18. In cases where the states have not fixed the base fare, aggregators have been asked to notify the base fare to the state govt. The guidelines specify no passenger will be charged for dead mileage, except when the distance for availing the ride is less than 3 km, and the fare will be charged only from the point of origin of the journey to the destination. For safety of passengers, the Centre has specified that the aggregator must ensure vehicle location and tracking devices (VLTDs) are installed in vehicles and the feed is received by it as well as linked to integrated command and control centre of the state govt. The aggregators will also conduct an annual refresher training. The guidelines also specified that drivers whose rating falls below five percentile from amongst all drivers in terms of duration of engagement with the aggregator, will compulsorily undergo refresher training every quarter. If such drivers fail to do so, they won't be allowed to continue through the aggregator. Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays . 48 high-end ‘model liquor shops' soon in Raj cities
Jaipur: Tipplers in the state will soon stroll into posh, air-conditioned showrooms to purchase their favourite premium brands. The excise department is launching 48 'model liquor shops' across major cities, strategically located in malls, shopping complexes, and other high-footfall areas. Jaipur is set to receive five such outlets, while Jodhpur and Udaipur will get two each. Mount Abu and Abu Road—treated as distinct zones due to their proximity to Gujarat, a dry state, will have one outlet each. The remaining 37 shops will be auctioned across various cities. An official said, "The minimum reserve price for model shops in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Mount Abu, and Abu Road has been fixed at Rs 1 crore per outlet. For other locations, the base price is Rs 50 lakh. The online auction is scheduled for July 7, with a non-refundable participation fee of Rs 50,000 per shop. Bidders may not raise their bids by more than 10% over the base price in a single attempt." To qualify, a minimum space of 1,000 sq ft is required in Jaipur, while 500 sq ft suffices in other cities. Each outlet must be fully air-conditioned and offer a walk-in experience. For enhanced transparency and customer convenience, POS billing systems and hologram-scanning beep machines will be mandatory. Only premium alcoholic beverages will be available for sale—beer priced above Rs 200 per 650 ml and Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) brands costing Rs 1,500 or more per 750 ml bottle. The initiative is part of the state's 2025–2029 excise and liquor regulation policy. An official explained, "This concept is already in place in several metropolitan areas, including Gurugram. Many premium brands have so far hesitated to launch in Rajasthan due to concerns over inadequate shelf display. As a result, customers often travel to other states to purchase premium liquor. This initiative aims to bridge that gap." Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Doctor's Day 2025 , messages and quotes!
