Caernarfonshire takes centre stage at 2025 Royal Welsh Show
As part of its role, Caernarfonshire is leading efforts to raise funds for improvements to the showground, with plans underway for new buildings and upgraded facilities.
John Owen, this year's Show President from Rowen near Conwy, said: "Funds have been raised in the past by the other counties to support the Show to erect new buildings and improve facilities.
"We have been raising funds for the show and we have something in mind but we are not there yet to reveal what this might be.
"Our main aim is to support the show and make 2025 one of the best Royal Welsh Shows."
Fundraising activities so far have included sponsored bike rides, car treasure hunts, sheepdog trials and a President's Ball, which will take place in Caernarfon in October.
Mr Owen and his wife Marian have been showing sheep at the Royal Welsh Show since 1989.
Their son Dafydd continues the family tradition, exhibiting Beltex and Cheviot sheep, as well as the rarer Black Welsh Mountain and Hill Radnor breeds.
Since 2012, the couple have also welcomed the Show President to Llanelwedd each year, guiding them around the showground—an honour they will receive themselves this year.
Mrs Owen said: "The show is an important part of the calendar for farmers across Wales and we are looking forward to going around the show and meeting our Royal guest."
That guest will be Princess Anne, who will make her seventh visit to the Royal Welsh Show.
In her role as President of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth, Princess Anne will attend both the annual general meeting and the show itself.
Mrs Owen said: "Princess Anne knows what she is talking about and is very supportive of farming."
Caernarfon-based television production company Cwmni Da will film an episode of Garddio a Mwy at the event, airing at 8.25pm on Monday, July 28.
Presenter Adam Jones, who revived the horticulture section last year, will serve as honorary director, compete in several classes, and appear on the programme.

Mr Jones said: "I don't know how I'll get on because it's the first time I've entered.
"It's one thing to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers but it's another thing entirely to grow something that will catch the eye of the judges and win that coveted red certificate for a first place."
He is entering classes for sweet peas, pelargoniums, soft fruits and a display of five vegetables.
Mr Jones said: "It is encouraging a new generation of exhibitors and growers to compete and celebrate their work, with a big focus on education."
Euros Wyn, producer of Garddio a Mwy, said: "There will be something that will hopefully appeal to everyone in this special programme."

Food Network star Anne Burrell died by suicide at 55, report confirms
Food Network star Anne Burrell died by suicide, it has been revealed. Five weeks after her sudden death at 55, the news was confirmed by the New York City medical examiner's office, as per a report in People on Thursday. Her cause of death was listed as 'acute intoxication due to the combined effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.' SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO Diphenhydramine and cetirizine are both antihistamines, ethanol is a type of alcohol, and amphetamine is a stimulant often prescribed for ADHD. Burrell's family declined the publication's request for comment. She was found dead inside her Brooklyn apartment on Tuesday. The Food Network star - who hosted Secrets Of A Restaurant Chef and co-hosted Worst Cooks In America - was found 'in the shower unconscious and unresponsive surrounded by approximately (100) assorted pills,' according to NYPD documents seen by The New York Times. Emergency medical teams responded to the home she shared with her husband Stuart Claxton but she was pronounced dead at the scene. On June 20, a spokeswoman for the city's medical examiner's office confirmed that Burrell's autopsy had been completed but findings on the exact cause of her death was still pending. Claxton reportedly last saw his wife alive at about 1 am the night prior before discovering her unconscious between six to seven hours later in their bathroom. It was reported earlier this week that EMS crews had attempted CPR on Burrell but could not resuscitate her. Her family said in a statement: 'Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered. 'Anne's light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. 'Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.' A Food Network spokesperson added: 'Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. 'Our thoughts are with Anne's family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.' Just hours before her passing Burrell had performed an improv show at a comedy club in Brooklyn, after having taken classes at the venue's training center. In a podcast earlier this year she spoke with Tori Spelling on taking the classes and how she planned to expand her horizons. She said: 'I just started taking acting classes. I started yesterday, actually... It's like an improv for actors' class. 'I got there and it's like eight people in the class. I'm the oldest one. Every other person has like, "Oh, I have a master's in fine arts in theater." ' Burrell showed off her self-awareness and sense of humor that her fans were familiar with as she joked about the age gap between she and her fellow students. She said: 'I'm like, 'okay, I've never taken an acting class. I don't know, this is new to me.' 'I wonder if these delightful and super talented kids look at me and they're like, "What's this old lady doing here?" ' The television personality had taken a break from her show Worst Cooks In America for season 28, which baffled many fans. Spelling asked at the time what led her to that decision. Burrell answered: 'I can cook, yes, I can do TV, but also, what else? I've got more to do in my life, I feel like.' She also admitted she was just 'dipping my toe' when it came to acting. Burrell explained: 'I feel very excited about it. I've got a few other things that I'm working on as well, which I'm not quite ready to share yet. Hopefully, exciting things [are] coming.' Gigi Hadid, who famously appeared on the cooking competition series Beat Bobby Flay with Burrell, led the celebrities paying tribute. Queer Eye For The Straight Guy star Carson Kressley, who was a close friend of Burrell's, revealed that he spoke to her just days before her death. He also shared a post to his own Instagram page which included a photo of him and Burrell. 'Rest easy, Chef Anne. I'm so blessed I was able to work with you, learn from you, laugh with you. 'So many memories - on screen and off - I cherish this photo of us living our best lives, as the kids say,' Kressley wrote. The TV chef - who became synonymous with her trademark spiky platinum hair - is survived by husband, whom she wed in October 2021 in an autumn-themed ceremony and reception in her hometown of Cazenovia, New York. She is also survived by her mother Marlene and sister Jane and her children Isabella, Amelia and Nicolas, and her brother Ben. Burrell developed a passion for cooking at a young age, inspired by her mother's home-cooked meals and by watching food icon Julia Child on television. After earning a degree in English and communications from Canisius College in Buffalo in 1991, she followed her culinary dreams and enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, graduating in 1996. She worked at a host of New York City hotspots including Felidia and Savoy in Soho, where she honed her craft in Mediterranean cuisine. She was later thrust into the spotlight and became best known as the longtime host of Worst Cooks In America. The show, which ran for 28 seasons, saw celebrated chefs mentor amateur cooks in an attempt to transform them from rookies to kitchen experts. Elsewhere, she appeared on Chef Wanted, Chopped, Food Network Star, and most recently competition series House Of Knives - which premiered in March. She also penned two of her own cookbooks - Cook Like A Rock Star and Own Your Kitchen: Recipes To Inspire & Empower.

Emmerdale fans blow holes in Owen and John 'suicide' twist
Fans of ITV soap Emmerdale have pointed out some plot holes in the latest part of John Sugden's (Oliver Farnworth) storyline. Last week, John learnt that Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh) were going to try and work out who killed Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter). Desperate to keep their focus off him, John realised he needed to come up with a plan – and fast. That same day, John was asked to visit Owen Michaels' (Simon Haines) house as part of his work at the surgery. When he arrived, he found Owen – the guy who spiked Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) – unconscious on the sofa. John rushed to call an ambulance, but then realise another problem of his would be solved if he just…let Owen die. In the time it took for Owen's life to slip away, John had created a story that made Owen look like he killed Nate. John wrote a note on Owen's laptop that confessed to murdering Nate, as well as revealing why he did it. He then used antibacterial wipes to clean the laptop, the door handle and Owen's neck, to ensure his fingerprints would be removed from the scene. A few days later, Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) went to check on Owen and found him dead. DS Walsh then arrived, and later told Tracy and Cain that this man killed Nate. It was a twist that left Cain and Tracy stunned. While they have no reason to not believe Walsh, fans of the ITV soap have certainly been struggling, as they noticed multiple plot holes in the scenes that saw John frame Owen, and what followed after. Taking to social media platform X, the point mentioned the most is John's effort to clean his fingerprints from Owen's house. It's possible a post-mortem would've been conducted on Owen after his death, to determine what he had in his system when he died. As a result of this and forensics checking the house, surely they would've noticed someone had cleaned Owen's neck, the laptop, and other areas? And therefore considered that he perhaps did not end his life? 'Did they notice that all the fingerprints on the laptop and Owen's hands had been wiped clean? #Emmerdale', one fan wondered. Another pointed out: 'He didn't seem to have his 'I'm a Medic' over shoulder pack with him that he's usually surgically attached to, just a smaller brown more casual looking bag. Not suss at all that certain areas have been wiped down, whether effective print/DNA wise or not #Emmerdale.' Also on X, audience members noticed that Robert mentioned Owen's confession in the pub…without actually being told about it. 'How did Robert know Owen confessed to killing Nate? Tracey and Cain haven't told anyone; John and Liam just walked in. Plot hole klaxon! #Emmerdale', they highlighted.
