German Derby winner Palladium in action at Goodwood
However, the Seven Barrows handler always had designs on returning to the level with Palladium and having swapped Lambourn for Newmarket to join John and Thady Gosden, the Clarehaven team will get their first look at the talented son of Gleneagles on the racecourse in the Listed BetGoodwin Tapster Stakes.
Thady Gosden said: 'He won the German Derby and then he had a stint over the sticks, but it's great to have him back on the Flat as he was a Classic-winning three-year-old in Germany.
'Goodwood over a mile and half is a great place to start him off for the season. We'll see how he runs on Sunday and then we'll be able to make a plan for the season from there.'
Palladium will be ridden by James Doyle, who added: 'I think they're due a bit of rain down at Goodwood so if that is on the easy side you would think would suit and it's a nice spare ride to pick up.
'It's always nice to ride for John and Thady and of course Lady Bamford and it's very kind of them to leg me up.'
Palladium will face a total of five rivals including former Henderson stablemate Galashiels and new Gosden stablemate Military Academy.
Karl Burke's Bolster, William Haggas' soft ground-loving Hamish and David Simcock's Raja Raja are also among the opposition.
There is also Listed action on the card in the Weatherbys / British EBF Agnes Keyser Fillies' Stakes where a field of 12 head to post.

Bargain buy Two Tribes strikes again in Stewards' Cup at Goodwood
A £30,000 yearling that turned out to be a Classic winner hooked Phil Cunningham into the racing game 20 years ago, and a similarly shrewd purchase gave the owner one of his best days at the track on the final day of Glorious Goodwood. Two Tribes, one of three runners in Cunningham's colours in the Stewards' Cup, picked up the £75,000 first prize in a valuable handicap at Ascot last weekend and added the £125,000 pot for this feature race with an emphatic two-and-a-quarter length defeat of Strike Red. His two stable companions at the Richard Spencer yard crossed the line in fourth and fifth. 'He was a four-grand foal,' Cunningham said. 'That makes it even sweeter.' And better yet for Cunningham, Two Tribes is by the stallion Rajasinghe, who won the 2017 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot for the owner in a course-record time. Cunningham was so frustrated at breeders' lack of interest in Rajasinghe in the early years of his stud career that he announced this year that he would offer his services for free. 'It's massive,' he said. 'We believed in the horse but unfortunately not many others have, so it's great to see him start getting some results. He's still a track-record holder at Royal Ascot, and at three grand [per cover] I couldn't give him away, so in the end, I did give him away. He did 58 covers after we did the free deal and at least I know he's going to have some runners on the track in a couple of years' time. If we hadn't made that decision, he'd have been sub-10.' It was Cockney Rebel, the winner of the 2,000 Guineas in England and Ireland in 2007 and the first horse that Cunningham owned outright, that gave a huge kickstart to his career on the turf nearly two decades ago. The colt is remembered in the name of his Rebel Racing and 'it has just got bigger and bigger' ever since. 'It's my passion and fortunately it's not my job,' Cunningham, the founder and chief executive of an insurance business, added. 'That makes it a bit easier to speculate. We changed the policy [two years ago], this is the second year where we've tried to buy a better quality of horse, spent more money. I wanted to come to days like today, you do get spoiled when you get a taste for it. 'We'll be reinvesting again at the yearling sales this year. We've already got six homebreds to come in as two-year-olds.' Waardah could be a horse to look out for in the last three months of the season after Owen Burrows's lightly raced three-year-old stepped up to a mile-and-three-quarters in ultimately decisive style in the Group Two Lillie Langtry Stakes. Waardah has an entry in the Group One Yorkshire Oaks later this month but the Fillies & Mares event at Ascot on Champions Day in October is a likelier assignment. We will see how she comes out of this, but I think Ascot at the end of the year for the [Group One] Fillies & Mares would be right up her street.'

With organizational rosters locked - barring the odd waiver pickup the next two months - USA TODAY Sports ranks the top eight World Series contenders in the wake of the industry's annual late-season trade show: Sure, they're a half-game behind the Mets in the NL East, but suddenly look so much more secure, with Jhoan Duran providing clarity to a cloudy bullpen and Zack Wheeler, Cristopher Sanchez and Ranger Suarez providing a real 1-2-3 rotation punch most of their NL rivals lack. Might have been nice to get a more offensively-inclined pickup with their much-anticipated outfield add, but Harrison Bader adds to their already elite outfield defense while providing timely pop. They're 35-25 against teams with winning records and are tied with Detroit for the AL's top overall seed; not a bad place to build from. With the playoffs firmly in sight, acquiring the nearly-rehabbed Shane Bieber and eyeing him for potential Game 3 playoff starts is a daunting look. Ty France has the best K rate of his career this season and gives the infield further versatility. And a shaky bullpen was nicely solidified with the additions of right-handers Seranthony Dominguez and Louis Varland. 3. Detroit Tigers Talk about pitching chaos: The Tigers added seven arms to their arsenal, and now it's up to their pitching sciences folks to make sure quantity turns into quality. But Charlie Morton and Chris Paddack are nice veteran additions to a rotation that just lost Reese Olson. Whether former Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan can be effective in pennant- and playoff-type leverage situations is an open question. But they all follow Tarik Skubal, something the rest of the league cannot say. When they acquired former Washington starter Mike Soroka the night before the deadline, there was a "Surely, there must be more" feel to the transaction. But there were no more starting pitchers headed to Wrigleyville, and so the Cubs will roll out Shota Imanaga and Matthew Boyd and then hope for the best from the Sorokas and Colin Reas and Cade Hortons of the world. Yet there's still a lot to like about this club, particularly after the bullpen was lengthened with the Andrew Kittredge and Taylor Rogers adds, and a lineup always down to simply score more runs than the other guys. Things are looking a little dicey for the defending champs, with little wriggle room at the deadline, an extended stretch of uninspired (27-24) baseball and so many unknowns with the health status of their pitching staff. But it's tough to argue with tonnage: Blake Snell returns this weekend and the bullpen is finally almost fully healthy. Kinda wild to see zero fireworks from them at the trade deadline (reliever Brock Stewart, reserve outfielder Alex Call), but it's time to trot out this cliche: Mookie Betts returning to form would be a huge lift. It might not matter if they have to battle all the way from the wild-card round as a third division winner. 6. San Diego Padres Never confuse activity with achievement, John Wooden once said. We imagine A.J. Preller was more of a Bobby Knight guy, anyway. Dude went nuts at the deadline and crafted an even nastier bullpen (thank you, Mason Miller), solved his left field problem and created a devastating defensive alignment out there (hello, Ramon Laureano), and added some desperately needed left-handed slug (Ryan O'Hearn). We'd place them a little higher if not for the high probability they'll land in the wild-card series, as well as the absence of a true No. 1 starter so long as Dylan Cease (still a Padre) remains inconsistent. 7. Houston Astros Dang, they really wanna win this year, eh? Could not have imagined Carlos Correa ever again walking through that Minute Maid, errr, Daikin Park door again, but the club got aggressive when third baseman Isaac Paredes popped a hamstring and now they'll pay Correa about $75 million for the next three-plus seasons. That's so not Jim Crane. We like them to pull away from the pack in the West and, with Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown in tow, be live dogs come October. Like their Bronx counterparts, the Mets ignored the fallow starting pitching market and instead loaded up the bullpen, giving Ryne Stanek some set-up breathing room with Ryan Helsley, Tyler Rogers and Gregory Soto. Cedric Mullins will look nice in that Citi Field outfield. But the health and innings track records of starters Sean Manaea, Clay Holmes and Kodai Senga behind the steady David Peterson (who has already equaled his career high in innings) creates a little too much doubt. Enough doubt to slip behind the Phillies and take their chances in the wild-card shootout.
