Policies of force to eliminate Palestinian cause have failed, PM tells world body
'All they have achieved is to worsen the situation with more tragedy, bitterness, a sense of injustice, and horrific scenes of death and destruction that will remain etched in the memory of people around the world,' the PM continued.
The horrors of this war and its political failure prove that there is no alternative to a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian cause, he said, adding that the key lies in acknowledging the historical injustice suffered by the Palestinian people and applying long-overdue justice, delayed for nearly eighty years.
'Qatar, based on its unwavering support for peace, affirms its full support for the objectives of this conference and its keenness to play an active role in ensuring its success and enhancing the chances of a peaceful solution in the Middle East,' he said, noting that Qatar co-chaired the conference's third working group, which is concerned with the topic of 'Narratives of Peace.'
The PM explained that this team addressed important topics and concluded with priority principles and proposals that contribute to the success of the conference's overall objective. In order to create a conducive environment for achieving sustainable peace, there is a need to promote positive narratives that support peace between the two sides, based on rejecting violence, renouncing inflammatory rhetoric, and confronting attempts to dehumanize the other side, he added.
The PM reaffirmed Qatar's steadfast position in support of a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian cause, in accordance with international law, UN resolutions, and the two-state solution, being the only viable option to end the conflict and achieve a comprehensive and just peace.
He added that from this standpoint, Qatar calls for a clear and unified international stance that opposes all practices that obstruct negotiations and the chances of achieving a just and lasting peace.
The PM welcomed the recognition of the State of Palestine within the borders of June 4, 1967, encompassing the West Bank and Gaza Strip by several countries, describing such recognition as a crucial step toward achieving both regional and international peace and stability.
He also reiterated Qatar's welcome of the French Republic's commitment to recognize the State of Palestine this coming September.
The PM considered that the convening of this conference represents a collective international will to move from words to actions, and to genuinely contribute to advancing the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian Cause in all its dimensions.
He pointed out that the international community bears a key responsibility in creating the right conditions for a durable and just resolution, including restoring the relevance of international legitimacy following this devastating war, and providing the necessary political, economic, and humanitarian support.
The PM expressed Qatar's hope that this conference will mark a turning point, leading to tangible commitments that go beyond declarations and stances, and paving the way for concrete steps toward the implementation of the two-state solution, which would guarantee a just, comprehensive, and lasting resolution to the conflict as well as contributing to peace, security, and stability throughout the region.
At the beginning of his statement, the PM expressed sincere appreciation to President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron and HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, for their initiative in organising this historic conference under the auspices of the United Nations, addressing one of the oldest unresolved peace and security issues and one of the last vestiges of colonial injustice still on the international agenda.

He thanked the government and people supporting Iran 'during the 12-day terrorist aggression by the Zionist regime and the United States.'

Hundreds of Gaza children to be brought to UK for treatment
PA Media/dpa London Up to 300 children could be evacuated from Gaza and given medical treatment in the UK. The plans are reportedly set to be announced within weeks. A parent or guardian will accompany each child, as well as siblings if necessary, and the UK Home Office will carry out biometric and security checks before travel, the Sunday Times reported. This will happen 'in parallel' with an initiative by Project Pure Hope, a group set up to bring sick and injured Gazan children to the UK privately for treatment. More than 50,000 children are estimated to have been killed or injured in Gaza since October 2023, according to UNICEF. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said last week that the UK was 'urgently accelerating' efforts to bring children over for treatment. A government spokesperson said: 'We are taking forward plans to evacuate more children from Gaza who require urgent medical care, including bringing them to the UK for specialist treatment where that is the best option for their care. 'We are working at pace to do so as quickly as possible, with further details to be set out in due course.' The UK and Jordan have been working together to air drop aid amid warnings of widespread malnourishment in Gaza. It comes as the UK seeks to put pressure on Israel to change course with a plan to recognise a Palestinian state in September ahead of the UN General Assembly. Starmer has said the Unied Kingdom would only refrain from recognising Palestine if Israel allows more aid into Gaza, stops annexing land in the West Bank, agrees to a ceasefire and signs up to a long-term peace process over the next two months. Concerns have been raised this could see a Palestinian state recognised by the UK without Hamas releasing the remaining Israeli hostages.

NHRC condemns Israeli occupation's violations against Palestinian people
QNA Doha The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has reiterated its condemnation of the serious attacks that the Israeli occupation has been continuously committing against the Palestinian people since October 7, 2023, in a flagrant violation of all rules of international humanitarian law and international human rights law obligations, including repeated deliberate attacks against civilians and civilian facilities. In a statement, the committee said that these attacks resulted in the killing of more than 60,000 civilians - the majority of whom were women and children, and the injury of at least 148,722 people in the Gaza Strip, in addition to the injury of over 7,500 civilians in the West Bank during the occupation's raids, arrests and colonist attacks. Chairperson of National Human Rights Committee HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah affirmed that the Israeli occupation's ongoing attacks against the Gaza Strip have created an extremely difficult humanitarian reality, such as depriving civilians from their most basic human rights necessary for survival, such as food, safe water, healthcare and adequate housing, by deliberate targeting of homes, hospitals and civilian institutions. She expressed her deep concern about the policy of starving civilians practised by the Israeli occupation authorities through the deliberate denial of access to food and the imposition of severe obstacles and restrictions on relief organisation's work, pointing out that these restrictions led food indicators to exceed the threshold of famine and caused death among the population, especially among children, as a result of hunger and severe malnutrition. Al Attiyah stressed the need for an immediate and comprehensive cessation of attacks against civilians and civilian facilities, and an end to the occupation's policy of starvation and the deliberate denial of basic rights, including the elimination of restrictions imposed on the work of humanitarian organisations to enable them to provide relief assistance to those in need. She welcomed the role that Qatar plays in addressing the humanitarian impact of the Israeli occupation's attacks against the residents of the Gaza Strip, in addition to the country's mediation efforts, in cooperation with Egypt and the US, to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire. She called on the international community to act immediately and decisively to end the dire humanitarian conditions that the people of the Gaza Strip are facing. She also warned of the danger of overlooking genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity that the Israeli occupation has been repeatedly committing against the Palestinian people, calling for international criminal measures to hold those responsible for these grave violations accountable and to prevent their impunity. The international silence regarding these crimes constitutes a crime in itself, fostering impunity, undermining international efforts to establish criminal justice, and weakening the principles of international law, she continued. Al Attiyah expressed the committee's serious concern about the current situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip, warning that the continuation of this situation threatens the credibility of the entire international system, including human rights mechanisms.
