'China desks' proposed to woo investors
The Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening institutional linkages aimed at enhancing industrial cooperation and promoting bilateral economic progress under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.
In a statement, PCJCCI President Nazir Hussain emphasised that the chamber was fully aligned with the broader vision of industrial development and stood ready to act as a dynamic platform for fostering Pakistan-China collaboration.
He underlined the dire need to establish dedicated "China desks" at various public organisations across Pakistan. These desks will act as centralised facilitation points to provide Chinese investors and enterprises with streamlined access to regulatory support, project guidance and business services.
Having China desks embedded within public institutions would significantly improve investor confidence, reduce procedural delays and align stakeholders around shared industrial goals.
PCJCCI Senior Vice President Brigadier (Retd) Mansoor Saeed Sheikh said, "We aim to integrate private-sector strengths with enabling policy frameworks. This will not only attract greater Chinese investment but also support industrial modernisation across key sectors in Pakistan."
He noted that PCJCCI would play a proactive role in facilitating access to Chinese green technologies and promoting eco-industrial transformation in the country.
PCJCCI Vice President Zafar Iqbal highlighted the longstanding industrial partnership between Pakistan and China and said "we believe in enhancing practical linkages that lead to innovation, value addition and long-term economic impact."
Joint ventures between Pakistani and Chinese companies would be encouraged in sectors such as engineering, agro-processing, renewable energy and electric vehicles. Innovation hubs and pilot industrial projects would also be explored, he stressed.
Secretary General Salahuddin Hanif stated that coordination and institutional synergy were the key to driving progress. In this regard, PCJCCI is working towards launching joint working groups, policy roundtables and industrial matchmaking sessions.
"The chamber continues to serve as a vital bridge between Pakistani industries and Chinese enterprises, with a focus on enabling investment, promoting technology transfer and enhancing competitiveness in strategic sectors," he said. "It remains committed to facilitating structured dialogue, business matchmaking and project development that will contribute to Pakistan's sustainable industrial growth and regional economic integration."

Ghani Chemical Industries begins commissioning of calcium carbide project
Ghani Chemical Industries Limited announced on Friday that it had formally commenced the commissioning after the setup of the import substitute calcium carbide (and its related products) project under the supervision of Chinese and European experts. In March, the company said it had 'sanctioned the demerger/merger scheme of compromises, arrangement and reconstruction for the transfer of whole of the business and undertaking of 'calcium carbide project' of GCIL with and into GCWL against allotment of 500 shares of GCWL to the shareholders of GCIL against every 1,000 shares of GCIL and transfer of designated assets of Ghani Products (Private) Limited (GPL) with and into GCIL and other related matters'. Ghani Chemical Industries Limited was incorporated in Pakistan as a private limited company in 2015 and was converted into a public limited company in 2017. The principal activity of the company is the manufacturing, trading & sale of medical and industrial gases and chemicals.

China commerce minister meets with Nvidia CEO

Nvidia declined to comment. During his third China visit this year, Huang, the founder and CEO of the world's most valuable company, also met with Ren Hongbin, chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the country's Vice Premier He Lifeng. Chinese officials told Huang they welcomed foreign companies to continue to invest in the country, the Nvidia CEO said at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday. At the event, Huang described artificial intelligence models from Chinese firms Deepseek, Alibaba and Tencent as "world class" and said AI was "revolutionising" supply chains. Huang also said Chinese customers' demand for its H20 AI chip, which was released from US export controls this week, is high but no purchase orders have been fulfilled yet as it awaits US government approval for export licences. Nvidia has also announced it is developing a new chip for Chinese clients called the RTX Pro GPU, which would be compliant with US export restrictions and designed specifically for smart factories and for robot training purposes.

PM Shehbaz expresses satisfaction over training of 300 agriculture graduates in China
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed heartfelt satisfaction over the successful completion of hands-on training by the first batch of around 300 Pakistani agriculture graduates in China in important areas of water saving irrigation, seed production, animal husbandry, agriculture production and prevention of post-harvest losses. In a post on his X handle, he expressed gratitude to the Chinese leadership, the Shaanxi government, and the two universities, while also appreciating the efforts of Ministry of National Food Security, HEC, and the Embassy in Beijing. Shehbaz said this batch is part of the training programme for 1000 Pakistani agriculture graduates, which he had announced during his visit to China in June last year. During his visit to China in June 2024, PM Shehbaz was accompanied by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and other senior ministers of the cabinet. Besides Beijing, he visited the cities of Xi'an and Shenzhen as well. The prime minister met President Xi Jinping and held delegation-level talks with Premier Li Qiang. He also held meetings with Chairman Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhao Leji and heads of key government departments. An important aspect of the prime minister's visit was meetings with corporate executives of leading Chinese companies dealing in oil and gas, energy, ICT, and emerging technologies. In Shenzhen, he addressed the China- Pakistan Business Forum with leading businesspersons, entrepreneurs, and investors from both countries. He also visited Economic and Agricultural Zones in China.
