Lioness squad's 'proud' boyfriends and girlfriends pay tributes after Euro win

Daily Mirror6 days ago
Behind the Lionesses are their partners who have heavily supported the squad and have paid gushing tributes to their significant others following their triumphant win against Spain during the Euro final
The Lionesses made history once again as they clinched the Euro Cup for the second time in a row - and their devoted partners were there cheering the women on. And many went on to praise their partners in emotional tributes after England beat Spain during a tense penalty shootout.

The England squad partied into the early hours of this morning after their triumphant victory at this year's UEFA Women's Euro, and the drinks were certainly flowing. The Lionesses enjoyed pizza and beer before heading to an evening reception dedicated to their success as they soaked up their win and danced around to music.

The DJ then got things going, playing Proud by Heather Small, starting the first of many, many sing-alongs. Freed from Desire by Gala quickly followed, and Ella Toone even took to the mic for a rendition of Tina Turner's River Deep, Mountain High.
The team were joined by their loved ones for the celebrations, including Ella's boyfriend, Joe Bunney, and Chloe Kelly's husband, Scott Moore, who have been heavily supporting their partners. They are just two of the other halves who shared heartwarming tributes following the Lionesses' triumphant win.

Joe Bunney, who has been in a long-term relationship with Ella, took to Instagram with a series of snaps from Sunday's final and afterparty. One snap showed him beaming alongside Ella as they held the Euro Cup, and another showed him with the footballer shortly after the win.
In an Instagram post, he wrote the caption: "BACK 2 BACK!.. This team just continues to produce! @lionesses." And in a video of Ella on his Instagram page, he sweetly said: "Words don't describe how proud I am of you."

Chloe Kelly's husband, Scott Moore, whom she tied the knot with last summer after five years of dating, also gushed with pride in an Instagram post. While his Instagram is private, Chloe reposted his story where he wrote alongside a snap with his wife, "Speechless once again." Kelly added her own caption to the post, "I'm so grateful to have you by my side."
England's captain Leah Williamson was supported by Elle Smith, with whom she is said to be dating. Although the pair haven't officially confirmed their romance, a series of cosy snaps on Instagram suggests they are more than just close friends.

To show her support, Elle attended the Euro final match and wore a t-shirt emblazoned with the slogan "Live, Laugh, Leah." She later reshared a photo alongside Leah holding the Euro Cup and loved ones in the stands at the football stadium.
Lauren Hemp's girlfriend, Ashley Hodson, also paid a sweet tribute to her Lioness star. She posted a series of snaps alongside Lauren on her Instagram and added the caption: "Champions babyyy! So proud."
In a touching reply, Lauren, who has been in a relationship with Ashley since 2023, wrote: "Always by my side." And in another post from Ashley, she described her partner as her "inspo".
Beth Mead was also showered with support from her girlfriend Vivianne Miedema who watched the Lionesses' victory. Vivianne shared a snap alongside Beth in the stands at the stadium and gushed: "proud of you." In the comments Beth replied with: "Love you."

Jamie Vardy's feelings clear on Wrexham transfer as Premier League move eyed up

Jamie Vardy's feelings clear on Wrexham transfer as Premier League move eyed up Conor Coady has completed a move to Wrexham from Leicester City, with the defender's former Foxes team-mate Jamie Vardy among those to pay tribute to the 32-year-old Jamie Vardy with Conor Coady during their Leicester City days (Image: Catherine Ivill - AMA/Getty Images) Jamie Vardy has lauded Conor Coady following the defender's transfer from Leicester City to Wrexham. The Foxes pocketed a tidy £2million from the deal as the Welsh club gears up for the Championship, having secured promotion last season. ‌ Coady had a challenging stint at the King Power Stadium, with an injury sidelining him at the start of the 2023/24 promotion season. Jannik Vestergaard filled his shoes and never relinquished his spot. ‌ Despite featuring intermittently in the Premier League, the 32-year-old couldn't stave off a dismal season that culminated in relegation. ‌ However, it appears that Coady left a favourable impression on Vardy, who bid farewell to Leicester at the close of the 2024/25 season when his contract expired. "All the best brother. What a player and person," Vardy remarked on Coady's farewell message to Leicester supporters. In an Instagram post, Coady expressed his gratitude: "A massive thank you to everyone connected to Leicester City for giving me the opportunity to wear your shirt and share the dressing room with some fantastic people," reports the Mirror. "Even though last season was tough for us all, I wish nothing but the best for the whole football club this season and beyond." Article continues below Vardy's name has been bandied about in connection with Wrexham this summer, although it seems unlikely that the 38-year-old will be heading to the Racecourse Ground. The future of the former England international remains uncertain as Wrexham press ahead with their transfer dealings. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have sanctioned Phil Parkinson to recruit six fresh faces for the squad. Wrexham are also targeting Premier League talent and are reportedly keen on securing Pedro Lima on loan from Wolves. The Molineux outfit pipped Chelsea to land the 19-year-old Brazilian's signature. ‌ The transfer materialised after Lima seemed to indicate he would join Chelsea from Sport Recife, yet the teenager eventually penned a five-year contract with Wolves. Wrexham could now provide the youngster with crucial game-time as they seek to cement their position in the Championship. Ex-Crystal Palace manager Iain Dowie reckons Wrexham won't require long before mounting a Premier League promotion push. Article continues below Speaking to BoyleSports, Dowie said: "I think it's a matter of time before Wrexham are challenging. I think they really will be up there challenging. You look at the club and look at even some of the teams that are in the Championship, I think it's harder ever to get out of this league. "Having said that, Wrexham have the fan base, they have the backing, it takes a very clever management, but they've got a very clever manager. There's no doubt they will be challenging and there is every chance they can challenge this year, but Phil Parkinson would be very happy, I think with 10th and above."

'She's really fit and healthy but she doesn't want a pre-existing injury to give her a handicap. 'It's her lifelong dream to be taking part — and she wants to make the most of it.' Praising CoppaFeel, which raises awareness and money for breast cancer charities, she wrote: "I am proud of my little body and what it got me through last week… and I am even prouder of the women I trekked with that have survived breast cancer or are living with this awful disease. "THEIR bodies, achieved incredible things last week.. and they deserve to be celebrated. "It's time we shifted our perspective and focused on health, happiness AND feeling good.. rather than some unobtainable and toxic aesthetic," she noted. "Every lump, bump, scar, stretch mark and tiger stripe on our body tells a story.. whether that be of strength, resilience, experience or pure joy... "These things make us who we are and we shouldn't hide them away.. we should celebrate them." VICKY'S DISCOVERY Vicky's journey with her body comes after she revealed she had been diagnosed with PMDD after being "gaslit" for years by medical professionals into believing nothing was wrong with her. PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) left Vicky suffering from anxiety, depressive moods, rage, crippling cramps, and a feeling of hopelessness that, at points, left her with suicidal ideation. "I was told everything from, 'This is just PMS, everyone experiences it, other women can just handle it better' to, 'This is psychological — you need antidepressants.' 'I was told by one doctor, 'Maybe it'll be better if you lose weight.'' Her voice breaks when she reflects on the battle she still faces. Vicky says: 'Every month, you lose yourself — and as I've gotten older, it's gotten worse. "It used to last a few days, but now it's seven to ten days before my period. 'I'm anxious, I'm emotional, I'm exhausted, and I'm completely unrecognisable from the woman I am the rest of the time. 'The things that bring me joy don't bring me joy.' 'I broke down when she said I had PMDD,' Vicky said of her diagnosis after turning to private medical care three years ago. 'I'd had five years of being gaslit.' 7 Away from the camera, The Sun reported how Vicky was suffering from a trapped nerve Credit: Instagram 7 They pulled out all the stops for their plush stay Credit:

Chloe Kelly received explanation for MBE snub as Lioness now set to be rewarded

Chloe Kelly has been a key figure for England at the last two Euros, and the Lionesses forward is set to earn the recognition she deserves after being snubbed for an MBE in 2023 England star Chloe Kelly could be set to receive an MBE after being controversially overlooked for the honour in 2023. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has indicated that "recognition is coming" for certain members of the Euro 2025-winning Lionesses squad. ‌ Following their triumph three years earlier, Sarina Wiegman 's team successfully retained their European title in Switzerland. The Lionesses overturned a deficit to beat World Cup nemeses Spain on spot-kicks and claim the trophy for the second consecutive tournament. ‌ Kelly once more proved England's saviour as she slotted home the crucial penalty in Basel. The celebrations echoed those from Euro 2022, when her extra-time strike secured victory against Germany in the final. ‌ Despite this, the 27-year-old was excluded from the 2023 New Year's Honours list whilst team-mates Lucy Bronze and Beth Mead were awarded MBEs. Record goalscorer Ellen White received the same recognition, while skipper Leah Williamson was made an OBE. Kelly and her fellow Lionesses were snubbed in 2023 after the honours committee said it did not wish to recognise "the entire squad." As for its reasoning, the committee explained its logic was due to the fact that the tournament was a European championship and not a World Cup. "We tried to stick to the principles of the honour system, which is to recognise excellence and to recognise extraordinary contributions," said Sir Hugh Robertson, chairman of the sports honours committee, at the time. "That's particularly the case with [the] selection of players who set the country alight. So we wanted to recognise and capture that, but to do it in a way that picked out the outstanding performances we saw throughout the tournament. "I think also in the back of my mind was the fact it was a European competition and not a world one. They have a world championship next summer." ‌ However, Kelly and fellow Euro 2025 hero Hannah Hampton could be in line for recognition in the upcoming New Year's Honours. Manager Wiegman might also receive an award of her own, with rumours she could be named an honorary Dame. "What Sarina and our Lionesses have achieved is nothing short of remarkable," Starmer told the Sun on Sunday (via the Daily Express). "So recognition is coming - and it will be worthy of their historic success." The Lionesses made history as the first English football team to win a major international honour since 1966 when they secured the European title three years ago. However, Wiegman's accomplishment in retaining the title this summer is an even more significant achievement. ‌ To begin with, England didn't enjoy home-field advantage this time around. Moreover, they triumphed over a Spain side that has been a dominant force in international football in recent years, having beaten England to the World Cup title in 2023. It's almost poetic that after being overlooked for an MBE when England's heroes were last recognised, Kelly returned to play a pivotal part in the Euro 2025 final. The Arsenal attacker also came off the bench to net a 119th-minute comeback winner against Italy in the semi-finals. ‌ Chelsea goalkeeper Hampton proved equally vital throughout the tournament and produced two legendary stops during the penalty shootout triumph over Spain. She earned Player of the Match honours for her display in the decider, with Wiegman effusive in her praise of the new No. 1. "You really have to step up and show it and so did she," she said of her goalkeeper's heroics in Switzerland. "I think she's done amazing. It's a very bit like a fairy tale to stop those penalties in the final of the Euros and to win it." Hampton's contribution proved even more remarkable considering she had enormous shoes to fill following Mary Earps' retirement. Nevertheless, she has slotted effortlessly into the position and played a vital role in her nation retaining the European title.
