Farmer pleads not guilty to posting offensive comments
Mohammad Faisal Mohd Yusof, 37, entered the plea when the charge was read before Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman.
He was charged with knowingly posting and initiating the transmission of offensive comments via the Facebook account 'Mohd Faisal Yusop' with intent to annoy others.
The post was allegedly uploaded at 12.40 am on Feb 9 and came to the attention of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) at around 1.40 pm the same day at MCMC Tower 1, Jalan Impact, Cyber 6, Cyberjaya.
The charge, framed under Section 233 (1) (a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and punishable under Section 233 (3) of the law, provides a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to one year or both, upon conviction.
MCMC deputy public prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab proposed bail of RM15,000 with one surety, citing the accused's failure to attend the case mention on April 30, which resulted in a warrant of arrest being issued.
However, the single father, who is unrepresented, pleaded for a lower bail amount, saying he had no fixed income and was supporting three children as well as his parents.

Illegal border crossings in Kelantan raise serious security concerns, says deputy MB
KOTA BARU: The presence of dozens of illegal crossings along the Kelantan-Thailand border has raised serious national security concerns, said Kelantan Deputy Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan. He emphasised that Kelantan's border is an integral part of Malaysia's international boundary with Thailand and must be protected with utmost vigilance. "The border spans approximately 105km, with most of it covering Sungai Golok, which separates Kelantan from Thailand's Narathiwat province. "There are only three official entry points, namely Rantau Panjang, Bukit Bunga and Pengkalan Kubor. However, behind these checkpoints lie dozens of illegal crossings frequently used for cross-border activities,' he said in a statement on his official Facebook page on Saturday (July 5). Mohamed Fadzli also noted that the region's geography and close familial ties between communities on both sides of the border further heighten its vulnerability to security threats. In light of this, the state government stressed the need to strengthen border enforcement through increased personnel deployment, enhanced security assets and coordinated efforts among all relevant agencies. He added that the state government is fully committed to working together to ensure the nation's borders remain secure. "This is a shared responsibility to safeguard our sovereignty, protect public safety and secure the future of our nation,' he said.- Bernama

Immigration busts marriage-for-visa syndicate after raids in Putrajaya
KUALA LUMPUR: A marriage-for-visa syndicate targeting senior citizens was busted with the arrest of five men, including the masterminds. Immigration department officers conducted the raids in Putrajaya at about 9.19am on Thursday (July 3). Director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the raiding team detained five local men aged between 30 and 66 years old. "Four of them are suspected to be the main masterminds while the fifth individual is believed to be acting as a middleman. "Six Malaysian passports, 22 Chinese passports, seven from Bangladesh, three from Indonesia, two from Vietnam, and one each from Myanmar and Macau were seized. "Among other items seized were a laptop, two printers, 26 folders containing Immigration and National Registration Department (NRD) documents, two backpacks, two vehicles and RM3,070 in cash believed to be proceeds from the syndicate's operation," he said in a statement on Saturday (July 5). The syndicate is believed to have offered illicit immigration services, particularly for applications under the "Malaysian citizen's wife" category, as well as forged NRD documents for marriages between Malaysian citizens and foreign nationals, Zakaria said. "Investigations revealed that their primary targets were elderly local men in the Klang Valley looking to marry foreign women. "The syndicate charged between RM50 to RM500 per application. We believe the syndicate has been operating for about a year," he said. All suspects are being investigated under Section 12(1)(f) of the Passport Act 1966 and have been brought to the Putrajaya Immigration office for further action, he added. 'We will continue to intensify enforcement efforts to combat any activity that violates the country's laws. "These measures are crucial to preserving the nation's stability and prosperity for the well-being of all citizens,' he said.
