Door County high school student makes local history at Miss Wisconsin's Teen contest
Reigning Miss Door County's Teen Elise Jackson of Sturgeon Bay became the first representative in the 24-year-history of the Miss Door County's Teen program to place in the top five of the Miss Wisconsin's Teen pageant when she was named third runner-up in the 2025 state competition held June 20 in New Berlin.
And, Jackson wasn't the only woman from Sturgeon Bay to be named to the top five in the teen pageant, as recent Sevastopol High School graduate Ophelia Linnan, entered in the competition as Miss Fond du Lac's Teen, was fourth runner-up.
Jackson's historic top-five result comes on the heels of Kylee Duessler becoming the first reigning Miss Door County in the program's 27 years to place in the top five for Miss Wisconsin when Duessler was named fourth runner-up in the 2024 state competition.
In the 24-year-history of the Miss Door County's Teen program, Jackson was the first to crack into the elusive Top 5 and was named 3rd Runner Up to the new Miss Wisconsin's Teen 2025, Natalie Popp from Fitchburg.
Jackson, a student at Southern Door High School, won a total of $900 in scholarships at the state contest: $600 for her third runner-up placing and $300 for placing second in the special 'Patriotism Reigns' award, an essay competition where she wrote about her brother's enrollment in the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, and her work with her community service initiative, 'Next Gen Civics."
That's in addition to the $2,000 scholarship Jackson earned when she won the Door County teen competition and another $525 in scholarships and prizes in the local pageant for being named Miss Teen Congeniality, winning the fitness and talent parts of the competition and tying for first in the interview portion.
For the talent part of the contest, Jackson played the well-known Beethoven composition 'Für Elise' on piano.
Now back in Door County, Jackson is promoting her 'Next Gen Civics' initiative in the hope of igniting civic interests in young adults, making them more civic-minded and preparing them to become strong future leaders. At Southern Door, she is the current class president, a student council representative and Senate President for Youth in Government.
Linnan earned a $500 scholarship as fourth-runner-up.
Miss Capital City's Teen Natalie Popp of Fitchburg won the Miss Wisconsin's Teen 2025 competition, with Miss River Cities' Teen Ruby Marti named first runner-up and Miss Madison's Teen Carly Doome second runner-up, followed by Jackson and Linnan.
The 2026 Miss Door County, Miss Door County's Teen and Miss Cherryland contests are scheduled for Feb. 7 at Southern Door Community Auditorium in Brussels, and applications are being accepted. Winners of those competitions advance to take part in the Miss Wisconsin and Wisconsin Teen pageants, with the Miss Wisconsin winner moving on to represent the state in the Miss America pageant. Since its first competition in 1997, the Miss Door County organization has awarded more than $275,000 in scholarships, which the organization claims makes it one of the top local pageants for scholarships in the state.

ESPN analyst believes Lamar Jackson is getting closer to a legacy few will ever match
Longtime ESPN voice believes Ravens star Lamar Jackson is on the cusp of immortality They just don't make them like that anymore... Oh yeah! You remember hearing that a time or two. That's one of those nuggets you probably heard while hanging out with dad (or maybe grandad). It was a phrase meant to show appreciation for the 'good old days, when cars were better built and sofas didn't tear up because you sat on them. They don't make them like Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson either. He's a walking evolution at the quarterback position. He's this generation's Randall Cunningham, a right-handed Steve Young or Michael Vick. 'Action Jackson' is special, and he can still play at a high level for several more years. That's good news for Ravens fans everywhere. But, is Lamar Jackson approaching immortality? Jackson's story is still being written, and it's too early to make determinations about when and how it ends. All we can guarantee is this. If he adds another MVP trophy and wins a Super Bowl or two, we'll be talking about Canton and his Pro Football Hall of Fame argument. Recently, the most unique and compelling of words was attached to his name: immortal. Hmmm... It sounds interesting. Don't blame us. Blame ESPN's Mike Greenberg. He's the one who brought this up. Here's what he said on the subject. "For Lamar and Josh Allen, what they're playing for is immortality. Both of them could retire tomorrow, and they'd be in the Hall of Fame. But, if either of them, and we'll use Lamar in this case because that's who we're talking about, wins a championship, all of a sudden he vaults into that place where the conversation on shows like this one are, 'Where does he belong on the list with the great quarterbacks of all time?' Two regular-season MVPs and a Super Bowl starts that conversation." It's interesting... We'll tell you that. Still, nothing says 'immortal' like having one's bust carved and having it placed in the hallowed football shrine in Canton. Jackson has a chance at having that happen. Winning a Lombardi Trophy will certainly help his argument. There are Super Bowl winners who were never enshrined. There are HOF enshrinees who never won 'the chip'. The AFC is loaded, but this season represents Jackson's best opportunity to win a ring. Let that be his and the Ravens' goal this season. Immortality can wait, even if we can make successful arguments for why he's on his way to arriving there.

A block party celebrating one of the biggest families in entertainment is on tap for Indiana. Teen Cuts Contact with Adoptive Parents After They Missed Graduation to Buy $350 ‘Rare' Labubu for Biological Daughter
The Teen wrote on Reddit that she only got a $150 gift for her big day An 18-year-old girl is wondering if she made the right decision in cutting off her adoptive parents after they missed almost all of her graduation to buy their biological daughter a "super rare" Labubu doll. Taking to Reddit's popular "Am I the A-----" subreddit, the teen said that she felt "justified" but wanted a second opinion. She explained that her parents had fertility struggles when they adopted her as a baby. Eight years later, they welcomed their "miracle" baby — whom she referred to as Princess, now 10. "Princess was spoiled and clearly the favorite. She never got in trouble, was always right, got WHATEVER she wanted and acted HOWEVER she wanted," she explained. While she didn't say she was mistreated, she wrote that she felt "jealous" of the extra attention and gifts given to her younger sister. The recent graduate said that she mostly stays out of the house to cut contact with Princess. "Now I have a car and a boyfriend (since sophomore year). I stay with him a lot and his family loves me so I'm barely home, maybe 24 hours at most weekly. My parents didn't care and this was my normal so I stopped caring too," she wrote. The situation took a turn for the worse on the day of her graduation, which the teen said was "one of the few things I asked my parents to come to." Her excitement about the day was dulled when Princess found a way to "ruin" it. "See her current obsession are these doll plush keychains called Labubus, she collects them and that specific day, she found this super rare one for sale in our city," she wrote. "Now instead of contacting the seller and buying it the next day, my parents went to go get it." She continued, saying that they showed up so late for graduation that the students were already tossing their caps. Making it worse, she shared that the Labubu cost $350, and her graduation gift from her parents was $150. "I was hurt. After graduation, I ignored them and went home with my boyfriend. I've basically moved in with him at this point since anytime I went back 'home' it was to get my things to go back. My parents called, texted, apologized, even came over and begged me to forgive them, worst part of it all, they think it's the money and sent me another hundred dollars. I refused to talk to them," she wrote. The situation is getting more "serious," she said, sharing that her parents were "threatening to report me as missing/ a runaway and contact my future college if I don't go back home." Many Redditors rushed to assure the user that her actions were entirely justified. "Sibling favoritism is so crazy to me and i think it's so unfair to the one being treated poorly. The fact that they only thought it was about the money speaks high volumes about their character. it doesn't help their case either that they adopted you and can't show you the same love they have for their 'real' offspring," one person replied. They continued, adding, "i wouldn't forgive them nor would i go back to their house for a good while. until they can understand what they are doing is completely unacceptable." is now available in the Apple App Store! "Been there, yo. people don't realize how much the 'little things' build up over time. you don't have to accept the bare minimum just 'cause it's coming from family. you deserve effort, too," another Redditor noted. Calling them "hurtful and dismissive," another person wrote that the girl's parents "prioritized a toy over your graduation." Others spoke to the legality of the situation, with many pointing out that she was legally an adult. Since she was 18, her parents had no control over what she also provided some advice and words of warning: "I would call your future college and explain that you are estranged from your parents. Tell them your parents are threatening to call the college and make a scene. Update all your contact info. Ask that a note be put on your profile that you do not authorize them to make any changes or obtain any information." "Honestly missing an important event like graduation for some stupid and expensive keychain, is just the straw that broke the camels back," another user commiserated. "I understand the princess being a miracle baby, but I have a feeling that in the next five to ten years your parents are really going to regret not disciplining her more."
