Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso To Miss Hungarian GP Practice Due To Injury
Alonso attended Thursday's media duties and pre-event preparations at the Hungaroring, 22 years after his first F1 victory at the Budapest circuit.
However, ahead of the initial on-track session, Aston Martin issued a statement confirming the Spaniard would not participate in FP1 because of a persistent injury.
Felipe Drugovich, Aston Martin's test and reserve driver and former F2 champion, has been called up to replace Alonso for first practice. Further updates on the plan for the rest of the weekend are expected.
The team's statement read, 'In the days following the Belgian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso has been managing a muscular injury in his back. As he continues with treatment this morning, he has chosen to sit out of FP.
'Felipe Drugovich will drive in FP1 alongside Lance Stroll. A decision will then be made on Fernando's participation in FP2 and the remainder of the weekend in due course."
In 2003, the Spaniard sustained a bruised elbow, knee, and thigh after a major crash at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Worse than that, Alonso experienced temporary memory loss following a crash during pre-season testing in 2015 for McLaren, forcing him to miss the first race of the season. Despite this, McLaren stated that Alonso's doctors found 'no evidence whatsoever of any injury."
In 2016, Alonso endured a severe crash at the Australian Grand Prix when he collided with Haas driver Esteban Gutierrez, flipping over into the gravel and fracturing his ribs, which caused him to miss the next race in Bahrain.
In 2021, Alonso was involved in a road accident while cycling in Switzerland over the winter but was fit enough to return for the season.
In March of this year, Alonso revealed he was racing with a neck injury due to a 'pinched nerve" after the Australian Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton's bumpy move to Ferrari has led to speculation about his future in F1
A fresh start for the most successful driver in Formula One history has turned sour in remarkably little time. Lewis Hamilton's surprise move from Mercedes, the team with whom he won six of his seven World Championship titles, to Ferrari in 2025 was supposed to usher in a turnaround in form for both the 40-year-old Briton and the famed yet beleaguered grand old team of F1. But an unusually long adjustment period, in a car that has proved to be uncompetitive this season, seems to have taken a toll on Hamilton, whose excitement has turned decisively downbeat as the season goes into its summer break period till August 31. During the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday, after qualifying 14th for the same race in which his teammate, Charles Leclerc, took pole position, Hamilton was harshly critical of himself, saying he was 'absolutely useless' and that his team may consider looking for a new driver. On Sunday, after finishing the race in 12th, he remained gloomy. When asked about his comments on Saturday, he was quoted as saying by The Guardian: 'When you have a feeling, you have a feeling… There is a lot going on in the background that is not great.' 'I have got nothing else to say,' he would add when asked why he was especially unengaged this weekend. His dour mood has triggered speculation about his future across the paddock, with comments about him widely spread in the British and Italian press. Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur played down the negativity. 'I don't need to motivate him, honestly, he's frustrated, but not demotivated,' he said. 'I can perfectly understand the situation. He's demanding. But that's why he's a seven-time world champion.' His former team principal, Toto Wolff of Mercedes, defended him too. 'We have seen it before when he felt he had not met his own expectations. He's been that emotionally transparent since he was a young adult. Lewis has unfinished business in Formula One. You ask me if he still has it? He definitely has it,' he said. Criticism flew his and Ferrari's way in the Italian press, though. Arturo Merzario, former F1 driver from 1972 to 1979, told La Gazetta: 'First and foremost, in my opinion, Hamilton's arrival in Maranello was a commercial move. Ninety percent of Ferrari insiders disagreed, at least from what I understand. And then, when a driver doesn't feel valued or an integral part of the team's pursuit of a goal, he loses motivation.' With 109 points from 14 races so far, Hamilton stands sixth in the driver's standings, 42 points behind teammate Leclerc in fifth. His contract with Ferrari lasts till the end of next year, when the technical regulations will change, resetting the pecking order on the grid. Until a solid judgement can be made of his and Ferrari's performance in those changed regulations, speculations are likely to continue to spread.

Emma Raducanu gets new coach with Rafael Nadal connection: Who is 2021 US Open winner's newest advisor?
Francisco Roig has overseen Rafael Nadal from 2005 to 2022 and was at the box in all of Spaniard's 22 Grand Slams. The 57-year-old will now be seen working with young American Emma Raducanu. Roig will be Raducanu's eighth coach in her career at the age of 22. Raducanu's decision to work with Roig came after Mark Petchey, whom she has been working this for quite some time, is unable to make a balance between coaching and his broadcast commitments. However, Petchey is likely to be involved within Raducanu's team, but in an informal role. Based on a Mail Online report, Raducanu had started discussions with Roig during Wimbledon earlier this year. However, Roig was unavailable until this week and was due to catch up with the American tennis star in Cincinnati on Monday evening. The duo are expected to begin preparations for the final WTA 1000 event before the US Open, which starts in August. Born in 1968, Roig is a retired tennis player from Spain. He mainly played in doubles and reached a career-high ATP ranking of no.60. Following his retirement from the game, Roig acted as an alternate coach of Spanish great Rafael Nadal. After he parted ways with Nadal, Roig worked with Matteo Berrettini for a year from 2023 to 2024.
